The village chief, cursing and swearing, drove the six people back to the wooden house, abandoned them, and left without looking back.
Uncle Ge followed behind in his little electric scooter, getting covered in dust along the way.
The six men stood in the yard, covered in mud. After rinsing their waders with a hose, they went back to their rooms to shower and then took a nap.
Director Chen didn't say anything to them from beginning to end.
It wasn't until the afternoon, when the six people gradually came into the living room for lunch, that he turned on the microphone and began to settle scores:
"I am very dissatisfied with the performance of the guests today. Some of their behaviors have crossed my bottom line."
"Yan Jie openly provoked trouble, hurled insults at the villagers, and nearly caused a violent conflict. The circumstances were extremely serious, and he was penalized 5,000 points. Chu Yang repeatedly admitted his mistake regarding the pond, causing everyone's efforts to go to waste and triggering a series of subsequent accidents. He was penalized 5,000 points."
"Filming will be suspended starting today. Everyone will take a break. I hope you will reflect and summarize your experiences when you return to the team, and perform well when you rejoin."
It took Jiang Hexi a while to realize that it meant the holiday was coming up.
It was clearly a normal two-week break for farming, but Director Chen insisted on making a fuss over it. He not only scolded them, but also turned their well-deserved vacation into a "seclusion for reflection." Even their vacation was anything but peaceful.
"Brothers and sisters, it's all my fault. I'm sorry, I've dragged you down."
Chu Yang stood up and bowed to the people sitting on the sofa to apologize: "I'm especially sorry to Brother Yan and Sister Jiang. If I hadn't caused trouble first, you wouldn't have been given negative scores by the production team for covering for me."
"Chu Yang, even if you hadn't told me there was honey in the hive, I would still have taken some if I had seen it."
Jiang Hexi bluntly told him, "Besides, given Yan Wang's personality, if anyone infringes on his interests, he will still take them back regardless of the occasion or the person involved. So these things have nothing to do with you in essence."
When Chu Yang looked over questioningly, Yan Jie nodded in agreement, a rare occurrence for him.
Shen Yingyu continued, "I shouldn't have let you choose the pond alone. I also bear responsibility for this mistake."
Chu Yang's eyes reddened uncontrollably. "Brother, it was my own initiative to go. It has nothing to do with you."
"Alright, this is all in the past. Let's not bring it up again."
Yu Xiangwan interrupted their conversation, "If we have to bring it up, everything related to positioning and direction is not to be handled by Chu Yang."
Chu Yang couldn't hold back and burst into laughter through his tears.
Jiang Hexi suddenly remembered something very important:
"The grandmas and great-grandmas told me to go to the camphor tree to get some vegetables. Uncle Zhong saw that I was craving something sweet, so he prepared several jars of honey for me. What's the latest you're going back?"
Yan Jie understood this seemingly incoherent sentence: "Two hours? Is that enough time for you to prepare?"
Jiang Hexi looked at Yu Xiangwan with a bright smile, "Wanwan, is that enough?"
Yu Xiangwan indulged her, saying, "That's enough."
Chu Yang felt his IQ drop; he didn't understand what it meant, but everyone else seemed to know, so he didn't dare ask.
Yan Jie drove his tricycle back to the wooden building, carrying a box of honey and two large baskets of vegetables.
Yu Xiangwan took out the remaining bamboo shoots, bracken, and porcini mushrooms, divided them into six equal portions along with honey and greens, and then took out six frozen reservoir fish from the refrigerator, packaged them up, and distributed each person with a "gift package".
The staff present were all incredibly envious.
They came empty-handed and left laden with gifts.
Director Chen stood off-camera, watching the second-generation rich kids pack up all the local goods and leave. He felt a pang of jealousy and berated the assistant director:
"You're becoming increasingly perfunctory in your work."
The assistant director had no idea what had gotten into him this time, but under his pressure, he went along with him and said, "Director, please explain."
"So many staff members went to the countryside to film with the crew, staying for half a month at a time, and returned empty-handed. The production team didn't offer any thanks. What kind of nonsense is this?"
The assistant director said, feeling utterly wronged, "Director Chen, according to you, how should we express this?"
"The production team has ample funds, so the 200 yuan subsidy should still be given."
Director Chen hinted to him, "Those local products that money can't buy, like honey, dried bamboo shoots, reservoir fish, and porcini mushrooms, are still worth packing up and taking back with you."
The assistant director fully understood his meaning. It was rare for Director Chen to be so generous; how could he possibly mistreat his own people?
"Director, I understand. If the five-member chaebol group has something, our staff should have something too."
Director Chen nodded repeatedly, quite satisfied with his statement.
Jiang Wenjing arrived at Canglang Village before 3 o'clock.
As soon as he got out of the car, Jiang Hexi stuffed half a snakeskin bag into his arms. He was disgusted with it, but he didn't dare throw it away.
"Second sister, what is this thing? Why is it so heavy?"
"Spring bamboo shoots".
Jiang Hexi opened the trunk, quickly grabbed the snakeskin bag and stuffed it into the car. Then she put two large jars of honey into a storage box, and then arranged peaches, bracken, cucumbers, shepherd's purse, lettuce, sweet potato leaves, pumpkin sprouts and porcini mushrooms on top.
The driver came to help, and she handed him the free-range eggs and frozen reservoir fish.
"Store it in the car refrigerator."
"Yes, Miss."
The driver took the packing bag with both hands and carefully placed the local specialties into the car refrigerator.
Jiang Wenjing looked at the trunk full of local goods and exclaimed in amazement:
"Little sister, you managed to bring back so much stuff from your trip to the countryside to farm. Your second brother really underestimated you."
Jiang Hexi slammed the trunk shut, and said with immense pride:
