Chapter 63

On the day the road construction was completed, the five-member chaebol group received 20,000 yuan in project funds.

The next day, Jiang Hexi made an appointment with the village chief to go to the city to buy fertilizer.

After the three business personnel boarded the electric tricycle, Chai Fei immediately noticed something amiss and blocked the way, saying:

"Wait, don't drive this car away yet. Why are the three of you going to buy fertilizer instead of the two big shots from the leadership?"

Jiang Hexi frankly stated, "We conducted market research to gain a preliminary understanding of the types and prices of fertilizers available in the factory. After returning, we reported to the two leaders and then decided which type of fertilizer was suitable for top dressing."

Chai Fei didn't believe her story. She quickly got on the electric scooter, plopped down on the cushion, and refused to move.

"Wouldn't that be a free trip around the city without having to clean the beehives? Why didn't you invite me to such a cheap and good deal?"

Yu Xiangwan immediately covered her mouth and advised, "Don't shout, or they'll hear you. I'll take you this time."

Chai Fei gave her a look that said, "That's more like it."

The village chief turned the car around, preparing to drive it out of the gate.

Jiang Hexi sat down next to the village chief and whispered in his ear, "Village chief, on our way back we'll pass through town. Could you take us to the market?"

The village chief shouted back, "Your timing is perfect; you're coming back just in time for the busiest time of the market."

The electric scooter turned out of the gate and was about to drive onto the road when it suddenly braked hard, and the people in the back of the scooter all crashed together.

The village chief immediately began to curse:

"Are you three out of your minds? Why aren't you walking properly and instead blocking the middle of the road?"

Yan Jie walked to the back of the carriage, took a long stride, and sat down on the cushion in a few steps. He slapped Chu Yang on the shoulder and said teasingly:

"Why weren't you invited to do such an important research trip to the fertilizer plant?"

“You’ll be wasting your time going. The money is in my hands. Take me there, and I can buy the fertilizer for you right away.” Shen Yingyu then got into the car and sat down next to Yan Jie.

Xie Wanyi looked at the packed back of the car. Standing on the road, he hesitated for a moment, glancing at Yu Xiangwan, "Squeeze in?"

Yu Xiangwan didn't want to squeeze in with him:

"Actor Xie, there's no room in this car. Why don't you stay here and watch the house?"

"If I stay, I'll have to clean the hives, so I'd better squeeze in."

Xie Wanyi stepped onto the back of the car and sat down on the side of Yu Xiangwan's skirt in the empty space that Yu Xiangwan had been forced to make.

The village chief glanced at the back of the truck, which was packed with people, and was about to call out a few names to get off when Yan Jie spoke up:

"Village chief, if we don't set off now, we'll miss the market."

The village chief was certain that none of them would get off, so there was no point in trying to force them. He simply got back into the driver's seat, grumbling as he drove off.

[This trio of business people is so unreliable! They all skipped work to rush to the market, making such a huge fuss, how dare they do it!]

[Getting caught red-handed the moment I stepped out, and then being criticized by the leadership in person—this is just too dramatic.]

[Xi Mei's face became a meme; her helpless, pitiful, and aggrieved little eyes are so funny.]

Am I the only one feeling sorry for the village chief's electric tricycle? With so little horsepower, how can it carry so many people!

The tricycle slowly drove along the country road.

Jiang Hexi glared resentfully at Chu Yang opposite her:

"Didn't you say they were sitting inside drinking tea? Why are they all standing at the door?"

Chu Yang, feeling guilty, was speechless, but Yan Jie kindly answered the question:

"It was hot sitting inside, so we took a pot of good tea and went to the door to get some fresh air."

"Then why didn't I see you go out?"

Yan Jie kicked the snakeskin bag under the carriage, glanced up at her, and said, "You went to get this thing, how could you possibly care about us?"

Jiang Hexi finally understood. She hadn't had any advantages in terms of timing, location, or people, so it was no wonder they caught her as soon as she stepped out the door.

Yan Jie noticed that the electric scooter was slowing down, so he asked, "What's wrong?"

"Village chief, is your car out of power? It seems like it can't move."

"What do you mean by no power? What do you mean by not being able to walk?"

The village chief said angrily, "I made sure to fully charge the car last night, but it's all gone by the time you get it. Don't you have any idea why the car is moving so slowly?"

He was so engrossed in his rant that he didn't pay attention to the road conditions around him. He sped up onto the county road and then saw the traffic police checking vehicles ahead.

The village chief slammed on the brakes and stopped at the side of the road, completely flustered. He turned around urgently and said:

What should I do if the traffic police stop my vehicle?

"It's too late."

Yan Jie watched the traffic police walk towards them. Even as he faced certain death, he was still joking: "Caught red-handed, there's no way to clear up a traffic violation."

In a moment of extreme panic, the village chief came up with a solution: "I'm still by the roadside; I can still turn back in time!"

“Hit-and-run is an even more serious offense,” Yan Jie said, pointing to the live-streaming camera. “The whole country is watching behind the camera.”

Jiang Hexi watched the traffic police approach and calmly said:

"Village chief, we haven't done anything illegal or disorderly, so why are we afraid of the traffic police?"

Upon hearing this, everyone in the carriage looked at her in shock.

Yan Jie said weakly, "Do you want to count how many people are sitting in this cargo tricycle?"

Jiang Hexi was dumbfounded. She had always thought that the electric tricycle could carry people. It turned out that they had been driving illegally on the road from the very first day of filming!

[The entire crew was caught overloading! This is a unique occurrence in the entire variety show industry!]

[Originally, only the three business personnel were arrested, but then those big shots insisted on squeezing onto the tricycle, and the traffic police took them all down, hahaha.]

[It's understandable that Xi Mei doesn't know the traffic rules, but none of the others are innocent. You can tell from the way they looked at Xi Mei. They knew the tricycle was overloaded but still got on, knowingly breaking the law, which makes their crime even more serious.]

[Unfortunately, the organizer of this overloaded outing is none other than Xi Mei, the most innocent person mentioned upstairs.]

[Yan Wang is the least innocent one. He was caught red-handed, yet he was still joking about the village chief. I'm truly speechless at this old man.]

The traffic police officer came over and questioned the village chief:

"What's going on with you? Can a cargo tricycle carry people? Turn around and count how many people are in the back of your vehicle."

The village chief immediately admitted his mistake, saying, "I'm sorry, traffic police, we were wrong, and we will never do it again."

"There will be a next time. I don't think you have any intention of changing."

The traffic policeman shouted, "Get down here, all of you, and stand on the side of the road!"

Seven people got out of the car one after another and stood in a row by the roadside.

Jiang Hexi had never been so embarrassed. She covered her face with her hands in embarrassment, and then peeked through her fingers that someone was getting off the interview vehicle, with the words "Yubei City News Station" clearly written on the vehicle.

She turned pale with shock and said, "No way, is this embarrassing thing going to make the news?"

Yan Jie took a black mask out of his pocket, slowly put it on, covering most of his face, and said:

“Xi-mei, by following you, we’ve all become law-breaking figures.”
