Jiang Hexi picked out two five-nut mooncakes, wrapped them in oil paper, and delivered them to Zhou Gongqi.
The night was deep, the trees were covered with fallen leaves, and the chill of early autumn seeped into every corner of the streets and alleys.
She walked to the crossroads of the old street and saw Zhou Gongqi surrounded by three children, painting on the wall.
The streetlights were dim, unable to illuminate the darkness of the night.
As they drew closer, Jiang Hexi saw the green wheat seedlings painted on the wall.
Walking further on, the painting transitions to the next wall, where wheat is growing tall and lush, and thousands of acres of wheat fields are verdant.
As she approached, she stood behind Zhou Gongqi and saw him drawing underwater waves of wheat on the wall.
Bold and bright colors, along with an abstract style, make the whole picture dynamic and impactful.
Jiang Hexi exclaimed in surprise, "Duke Zhou, why did you draw this?"
Zhou Gongqi turned around and saw her. He put down his paintbrush, took the oil paper package from her hand, and asked, "Are these mooncakes for me?"
As he spoke, he unwrapped the oil paper, gave one mooncake to each of the three children, and then ate the other warm mooncake.
Jiang Hexi was still staring intently at the mural. "Zhou Gong, wasn't the initial design for this creative street supposed to be trendy graffiti?"
"I changed it to a thousand acres of wheat field at the last minute."
Zhou Gongqi spoke to her carefully, "Xi-mei, I can't forget the wheat churning underwater in that flood. After I got back, I kept thinking about how farmers survive such natural disasters."
Jiang Hexi turned around and looked at him.
“Until that day when you took me for a walk around the village road, I saw the new seedlings sprouting in the fields, and I suddenly understood this principle.”
Zhou Gongqi looked at her kindly and said, "Keep planting, and the flood will eventually recede. Autumn will come and spring will arrive, marking the beginning of a new year when all things revive."
He knew she hadn't completely let go, and earnestly advised her:
"The farmers here are as full of life as the land beneath your feet. Ximei, you must also learn to be more robust, more resilient, and more tenacious. You must be able to endure these hardships and then grow your own thousand acres of wheat fields."
Jiang Hexi lowered her head, and tears dripped straight to the ground.
Zhou Gongqi pulled her around the corner and they arrived at the bottom of the slope.
Through her blurry, tear-filled eyes, she saw the boundless, bountiful wheat field on the sloping wall, the heavy ears of wheat, the golden fields, and she burst into tears, unable to contain her emotions.
[Sobbing, I'm crying! Zhou Gong (the Duke of Zhou) understands Xi Mei so well; he actually drew a thousand acres of bountiful wheat fields!]
From then on, Xi Mei's wheat field yielded a bountiful harvest in her heart.
[This series of murals is absolutely legendary in the hearts of farming enthusiasts.]
[Canglang Village won first place in this civilized village and town evaluation without any suspense or doubt, and as everyone expected.]
Yan Jie came out and called them back to eat.
He walked down the slope and saw Zhou Gongqi leaning against the wall eating mooncakes, while Jiang Hexi sat on the steps with her head buried in her knees, motionless.
"What's wrong with her?"
"It's alright. She was just too shocked after seeing my mural. She'll be fine once she calms down."
Zhou Gongqi patted the mooncake crumbs off his hands and called out to her, "Xi-mei, let's go back for dinner."
Jiang Hexi stood up from the steps and followed him out.
Yan Jie saw that her eyes were red and swollen, clearly showing signs of crying. Then, looking up at the entire sloping wheat field, he understood everything.
He followed her, "Are you really alright?"
Jiang Hexi quickened her pace to avoid suspicion, saying, "You really are something. What could possibly happen to me?"
Yan Jie chased after him again.
Before he could even speak, she ran ahead to talk to Zhou Gongqi.
Yan Jie was thus disdainfully left behind.
After the group finished dinner, Director Chen walked in from outside with a cold expression.
He stood behind the live-stream camera and sternly demanded accountability:
"Chu Yang is suspected of advertising a certain farm-made mooncake in the live broadcast room. The production team has decided to give Chu Yang a major demerit. With three demerits, he will be suspended from recording the show as a regular guest."
The crowd erupted in uproar.
The new rules and gameplay of the second season are clearly more demanding and exciting than those of the first season.
Chu Yang immediately asked, "Then how can I be resurrected?"
Director Chen answered his question directly, "If you win the online vote, you can participate in the recording of the new round of the program as a guest."
This means that accumulating three demerits will result in being completely removed from the list of regular guests.
Chu Yang was timid and broke out in a cold sweat.
Jiang Hexi pressed on, "Director, is there any chance to redeem yourself?"
Director Chen: "If it has a positive impact on society, such as the banquet for a thousand families, then the good deeds can outweigh the bad ones."
Jiang Hexi patted Chu Yang on the shoulder and comforted him, "It's okay, all the credit for the mooncakes this time is yours, it's a good way to make up for this big mistake."
Chu Yang was relieved. "Thank you, sister."
Instead of getting angry, Jiang Hexi smiled and said, "Director Chen, the Mid-Autumn Festival is just around the corner. Have you prepared mooncakes for the crew?"
Director Chen remained silent with a cold expression.
Jiang Hexi said incredulously, "It's a big holiday, you really don't give mooncakes to your staff?"
Seeing that she had gone this far, the assistant director immediately stepped forward to clarify:
"The director will definitely give mooncakes to the staff, so you don't need to worry about that."
Jiang Hexi gave Chu Yang a look, and Chu Yang immediately pulled out two boxes of mooncakes from under the table and placed them in the middle of the rectangular table.
