When Xuxu and Dalongbao returned to the monkey camp, the two elder monkeys and several unfamiliar old monkeys were waiting for them at the intersection.
"Big Malaysian monkey Xuxu, welcome back." Elder Jilian's tone was a bit sarcastic. After all, the monkey he favored was let Xuxu stand tall!
"Xu Xu, you came at the right time. The high priest is waiting for you in the ancient temple of the tribe." said Elder Kakarot.
"Dalong, I promise you'll go back to the hotel and wait for me. I'll be back soon." Xuxu said.
The ancient monkey temple is on a small hill behind the camp, surrounded by dense forests. In front of the ancient temple stands a huge stone statue, more than ten meters tall. However, it is not a monkey, but a human wearing armor and holding a shield.
"This is a stone statue of an ancient ancestor of my monkey tribe." Elder Kakarot explained to Xuxu, "We didn't know why it looked different from us before, but now we understand. It's a new species of giant macaque, just like you."
Xuxu, however, believed that the person in the stone statue was the first lord of the orchard, who happened to raise a group of monkeys.
But he didn't need to explain to the Monkey Elder, as explaining would only be asking for trouble.
The two elders pushed open the dilapidated gate of the ancient temple, then stood outside the door and politely invited Xuxu in.
"The high priest rarely goes out and lives alone in the ancient temple." Elder Kakarot said, "We have already notified it with a signal flare. You go in and close the door."
"Living alone in a temple? What do you eat?" Xu Xu was slightly surprised. "Elder, aren't you going in?"
"There are more than ten fruit trees behind the ancient temple, enough to feed one person for a long time." Elder Kakarot replied, "We have received notice from the high priest that the ceremony cannot be watched by others, so we are guarding outside the door."
"Oh? There is such a strange rule!" Xuxu said, then walked into the ancient temple and closed the door behind him.
Since it was daytime, sunlight shone into the temple through the wall windows, and everything inside could be seen clearly.
In the hall, there was a stone statue slightly smaller than the one outside, a long wooden table, and a few incense burners. That was all, nothing else.
That's not right - there are spider webs on the wall and many footprints on the ground. Xuxu looked carefully and it seemed that there were more than just monkey footprints. Could it be that other guests had visited the ancient temple?
An old monkey wearing a chicken feather hat walked out from the side room next to the hall. He was holding a broken jar in his hand, and half of the liquid was vaguely visible shaking inside.
"Are you Xuxu, the big monkey who fell from the sky?" asked the old monkey wearing a chicken feather hat.
"I'm Xuxu, the world's number one candidate for king. Running for clan leader shouldn't be a piece of cake," Xuxu said proudly. "Excuse me, is the clan leader's inauguration ceremony about to begin?"
"The ceremony can begin now," said the chief monkey priest. "Stand upright in front of the statue. I will come behind you and sprinkle holy water on you to bless you."
Xuxu walked obediently to the stone statue and stood there.
"Light incense for our ancient ancestors, then close your eyes and pray for three minutes." the high priest ordered.
Xuxu followed the high priest's instructions, burning incense and closing his eyes.
"Very good, you did very well," the high priest praised. "I will bless you with holy water now. Please remain still."
The high priest stood behind Xuxu and raised the jar of water in his hand and poured it on Xuxu.
Xuxu suddenly lifted up the incense table, turned around and used the table top to block it. The holy water poured by the high priest was splashed back and soaked it!
"Haha, you're an idiot!" Xu Xu laughed. "You want to splash me with holy water? Do you think I'm that easy to get hit? This time it bounced back!"
