Chapter 407: Poor Offering

"Oh, I forgot!" Wang Xiaohai slapped his head. Wasn't he here to ask for directions? Not to investigate!

So Wang Xiaohai turned around and pushed the door back.

“Pah—”

The white-haired old priest dropped his cane and quickly picked it up: "Master Inspector, what else do you want?"

"Oh, I want to ask, which team's jurisdiction is this?" Wang Xiaohai asked.

"Everyone around here is from Team Three. Aren't you the inspector of Team Three?" the old priest replied.

"Then I'll go first, bye." Wang Xiaohai said and walked out of the house.

Linjiang City is the largest city in Min State. Outside the Gongfeng Mansion is a bustling street, and further away are countless cargo docks, with people coming and going and traffic.

A skinny kid with a pale face reached into the pocket of a merchant, then ran quickly, his figure nimbly and agilely turning left and right in the crowd, and then - he bumped into Wang Xiaohai, bounced back and fell to the ground.

"Ouch!" The little boy cried out in pain and rubbed his injured leg.

Wang Xiaohai could have avoided it, but there was no need. He just looked at the little boy quietly!

The merchant whose wallet was touched was reminded by the person next to him. He hurriedly patted his pocket and found that his wallet was gone. He shouted and called his servant to chase after the little boy.

The little boy stood up and ran hurriedly, bumping into many passers-by, his speed slowed down significantly, and then he was grabbed from behind.

"You little bastard, where can you escape this time?" the merchant cursed, slapping the boy twice on the spot. "You are so naughty at such a young age, and you insist on stealing things!"

"I'm hungry. I haven't eaten for two days!" cried the little boy. He looked pale and thin, and indeed looked malnourished.

"Just because you're hungry, you can steal my money. If you take it, I'll beat you to death!" The merchant raised his hand.

"Alright." Wang Xiaohai grabbed the merchant's hand. "If a child steals because he's hungry, then the Min Kingdom is guilty."

"What does Minguo's guilt have to do with me?" The merchant struggled hard, but found that Wang Xiaohai's hand was as motionless as an iron hoop.

"Let our young master go!" The servant stepped forward and tried to pull Wang Xiaohai's hand away.

Wang Xiaohai swung his hand and threw the merchant into the servant's arms, and both of them fell backwards.

The servant was also a warrior in the Qingwu realm, but he couldn't even hold his master's body. It was as if he was filled with energy, and one person was heavier than several carriages!

"Young master, let's go, this man is a master!" the servant said in the merchant's ear.

After they stood up, they crawled away.

The dirty little boy got up, brushed off the dust on his clothes, and was about to leave.

"Your clothes are so dirty, there's no point in taking pictures." Wang Xiaohai said.

"Hmph, it's none of your business!" The little boy was quite proud, with a tough and unruly personality. He spoke like this to Wang Xiaohai, the man who saved him.

"Where are you going?" Wang Xiaohai asked. "Are you planning to steal again? Get beaten up again."

"None of your business!" the little boy said. "I just saw you coming out of the offering room. Be careful."

"What's going on?" Wang Xiaohai said.

"You can't just walk into the offering house casually." The little boy said, "Last year, two kids who played with me thought the offering house was not at home, so they sneaked in to steal in the middle of the night. Anyway, there was nothing valuable in there, and the old offering house was still there. I smiled and sent my two friends out of the house. The next day, when I went to play with my friends, I found that my two friends had died in the dilapidated temple where they were hiding." The little boy shuddered.

"Really? Thank you for telling me." Wang Xiaohai said, "How did your friend die?"

The little boy looked around and observed his surroundings. After making sure that there was no one around, he said, "Come with me to a place." He was very mysterious. It was obvious that there were many people here and it was inconvenient for him to say more.

Wang Xiaohai nodded and left with the little boy.

The two walked all the way to an abandoned dock warehouse in Linjiang City. The ragged little boy turned over the debris and scrap wood, revealing a dark passage. The little boy walked straight into the passage, and Wang Xiaohai also bent down and followed him in.

After walking about ten meters, a basement with a burning fire suddenly appeared in front of them. Seven or eight children of the same age as the little boy were warming themselves by the fire. Each of them was wearing thin clothes and had a dark face. There were two girls among them.

"This is the basement of an abandoned warehouse. It used to be where dock workers lived. Later, the businessman left and no one lived there anymore. Now it has become our base." The little boy introduced to Wang Xiaohai.

"Are you so confident in bringing me to this secret base?" Wang Xiaohai said.

"You saved me and you didn't mean any harm." Although the little boy's mouth was foul, he knew it very well in his heart.

"Can you tell me now what happened between your two friends?" Wang Xiaohai asked.

"Let my sister tell you, she was outside the temple, picking wild vegetables." The little boy pulled someone over from the fire. It was a girl whose hands were red from the fire. She looked one or two years younger than the little boy.

"Little sister, what's your name?" Wang Xiaohai asked. The girl looked only eight or nine years old.

"My name is Luo You, my brother's name is Luo Kong, and we came to Linjiang City from other places." The little girl Luo You answered quickly.

"From other places? Where are your family members?" Wang Xiaohai asked with a smile. He had everything in his ring except candy, otherwise he could use it to appease this little sister.

The little girl Luo You's eyes immediately turned red when she heard this: "My parents were killed by passing bandits a few years ago, so my brother brought me to Linjiang City."

"Are these all the kids?" Wang Xiaohai said, pointing to the rest of the children gathered around the fire.

"They are all orphans who lost their families in wars and robbers." The little boy Luo Kong said, "Sister You, tell this good man everything you saw in the dilapidated temple that day."

Luo You was startled and took a step back, whispering, "My brother was not at home that day, so I found some wild vegetables outside the temple and cooked them to eat, and that's how I escaped."

"What did you see?" Wang Xiaohai asked.

"I saw... five masked men in black rush into the ruined temple and kill the two brothers!" Luo You said with a hint of fear. "Then I lay down in the bushes and didn't dare to make a sound."

"Isn't he a robber?" Wang Xiaohai said. Even though he was wearing black clothes and a mask, it didn't mean anything. Robbers often do this.

"No, when they were killing people, I heard them asking the brother in the temple whether he had been to the offering house today?" replied the little girl Luo You.

"Really? That's suspicious." Wang Xiaohai pondered, wondering why the old priest did it. If it wasn't someone sent by the old priest, who could have done it?

Suddenly, Wang Xiaohai's face changed and he shouted, "Everyone, be careful! Get back, someone is coming!"

Yes, he heard footsteps approaching from afar, gathering towards the old warehouse.

Several children were startled when they heard this, and fear appeared in their eyes!
