Late at night, the lights in Renault's clinic were still on.
"My nanny has a boy who is about my age. I don't know his exact age. I call him Brother Eddie, but he has always been dissatisfied and wants me to call him Brother Eddie. I won't do that!" Shana said with a giggle.
"Being with kids like you makes me feel like I'm back in my youth," Wang Xiaohai said with emotion.
"You're about the same age as me, how could you have such sentiments!" Shana said, "Are you an old man in young people's clothing?"
"Well...I mean, when I think about a year ago, it seems like a lifetime ago," said Wang Xiaohai.
"How long is a year?" Shana didn't understand. "It would just pass by after traveling to two places."
"Not to mention a year, even half a year ago I was still a very funny and humorous person, but now I have changed a lot and I am not funny anymore," said Wang Xiaohai.
"People grow up, and when they grow up, they lose the joy they had when they were young," Shana said. "Ever since I was sent to the training center, it's been hard to be happy."
"I didn't expect it would be your turn to persuade me. You're using my words to comfort me." Wang Xiaohai laughed, "Can your country's steam engines fly into the sky?"
"No, can we fly into space with steam? A steam-powered spaceship?" Shana asked twice in a row.
"No, I've watched too many steampunk movies and read too many novels. Those are just exaggerated writing styles." Wang Xiaohai shook his head.
"I know novels, but what are movies? Do you have so many strange things in foreign countries?" Shana seemed to have a hundred thousand questions to ask.
"Movies are just pictures that move. The people in the pictures move," Wang Xiaohai explained. "You have electricity now, and in a few decades you'll have movies."
"Can you invent it?" Shana asked.
"I'm not omnipotent. Although I understand these principles, I don't have time to study them," Wang Xiaohai said. "I'm in a hurry." He had a hunch that he would have to advance faster than everyone else.
"What's the rush?" Shana didn't understand. "You're still young."
Wang Xiaohai thought to himself, "I want to find the Divine Fire Condensate and the Divine Spring to ascend to the demigod level." Of course he was anxious. Who doesn't want to become a god? If others knew there was a chance to advance to the demigod level, they would probably be even more anxious than Wang Xiaohai, jumping up and down in anxiety!
"You two are still talking, why don't you take a break?" Renault walked over in pajamas, looking tired. "I'm passing by on the way to the bathroom. Remember to turn off the lights when you go to sleep."
"Uncle Reno, where did my nanny go? She definitely wouldn't go out of town." Shana said, "Did something happen?"
"How do you know she won't go out of town?" Renault said.
"Because she likes you. I've lived with her for more than ten years. How could I not see that?" Shana looked out the window. "As long as you're still here, she won't move out."
Upon hearing this, Renault knelt down. Even though he was an excellent doctor who could adjust his mentality at any time, he couldn't control his tears at this moment: "I'm sorry for her. I was powerless when he died."
"What's going on?" Shana's voice changed. "What happened to my nanny?"
"She was killed by several knights under Marquis Sean a few days ago. I buried her in the Clay City Cemetery with my own hands." Renault burst into tears.
"What!" Shana sat up from the bed in shock, and the pain in her feet made her scream.
"Why didn't you save her!" Shana yelled at Renault, her voice seemed to shatter the glass. After shouting this, she began to cry loudly.
Fortunately, the civilian clinic is located in the slums. If they were in the rich area and made such a noise, they would probably be beaten up by the nobles' men.
"I'm so useless! I rushed over but was kicked unconscious by the knight!" Renault pounded the ground and said, "Why did I study medicine when I was a child? Why didn't I learn martial arts? Now I'm old and can't start over!" If time could go back, he would definitely take Shana, the wet nurse, and leave Clay City! Unfortunately, there is no medicine for regret in life.
The two of them cried for an hour straight before their voices gradually slowed down, probably because they were tired from crying.
"Where's Eddie?" Shana finally came to her senses and asked sobbingly.
"The main reason for your nanny's death was Eddie." Renault wiped away his tears and said.
"Why?"
"Because when Eddie was a courier at the Post Office, he stole a very important document," Renault said.
"What kind of important documents could a courier deliver?" Shana knew Eddie worked at the post office in Clay City, a job he got through a friend of Renato's. "And Eddie doesn't look like someone who would steal documents."
"We can only blame Eddie's friend," Raynor said. "Eddie worked at the post office and was constantly running around Clay City. He got to know a lot of bad boys, who dragged Eddie into drinking and gambling. Eddie started out just playing around, but eventually it got bigger. The day before the incident, his friends conspired to set him up, saddled him with an unpayable loan shark! To pay off the high-interest loan, Eddie had no choice but to take the risk and steal the document."
"How do you know so clearly?" Wang Xiaohai asked.
"Because he came to me an hour before deciding to steal the document and explained the reason to me, admitted his mistake, and promised to never be friends with these people again," Renault replied. "Eddie borrowed money from me to pay off a loan shark, but he owed too much, and even selling my clinic wouldn't cover it! So I suggested he go home and wait until his mother and I discussed the matter before taking any action. My intention that day was to let him and his mother hide for a few days, and then I would sell the clinic and secretly take him and his mother out of the city. But he couldn't wait any longer and stole that very important document that night. It was in the postmaster's office, and the postmaster was supposed to personally escort it to the next city!"
