The police officer who was questioning Wang Xiaohai was shot and fell down, and an attacker nearby also fell down.
In the chaotic scene, many crouching citizens were hit by stray bullets and fell screaming. There were more than a dozen attackers, and over a hundred police officers in the square. With some untrained and some well-trained, the attackers were subdued in less than a minute. All the attackers fell to the ground, shot. The police began to check the fallen to see if they were dead. They discovered that two had not been hit in vital areas and could be saved with emergency treatment. The police waved for a stretcher team to carry the bodies away.
“Are there any more attackers?” the man in the police officer’s uniform in the square called out. “Check carefully.”
Wang Xiaohai, Zhang Jiajia and Lei Tong were surrounded by more than a dozen police officers.
"What's going on?" Lei Tong said, "I am a law-abiding citizen. I will not do anything bad!" He yelled at the police who surrounded him.
"Be quiet, otherwise we will not rule out the use of violence against you." A black male police officer with a beard said gloomily.
"This man just hugged one of the attackers and might be an accomplice of the attacker." Another shorter policeman remembered.
Lei Tong stammered and explained, "I didn't know he would attack citizens and police officers. I didn't have a close relationship with him, I just knew him."
Obviously, Lei Tong's explanation was not convincing. Wang Xiaohai saw a policeman untie the handcuffs from his waist and walk quickly towards Lei Tong.
Two identical bodyguards in black rushed over, pushed through the crowd, and panted, "Officer, don't arrest us! This is all a misunderstanding! Young Master Lei is the son of a famous entrepreneur in this city. He wouldn't do such a thing!"
"Young Master Lei?"
It would have been fine if the bodyguard in black hadn't explained, but as soon as he did, a smart and sharp-eyed policeman recognized the resemblance and found that he was the younger brother of the number one wanted criminal!
"He's Reb's brother, and there's a good chance he's part of the mob!"
Three policemen rushed forward, pinned Lei Tong to the ground, twisted his hands behind his back and handcuffed him.
"I'm innocent!" Lei Tong shouted at the ground that smelled of a mixture of dust and grass, and his breath blew the tips of the velvet grass.
"Come back to the police station with us and tell us whether you are wronged or not." Another person took over and held Lei Tong down, and then several people dragged him to the edge of the square - there were several police cars there.
"What about you?" A police officer turned to face Wang Xiaohai. "You didn't squat down as instructed by the police just now, so you are also suspicious."
"You go ask someone else and leave quickly before I get angry," said Wang Xiaohai.
"I proved that he was not the attacker because I was with him the whole time." Zhang Jiajia walked forward to help Wang Xiaohai explain.
"Can you prove it?" The bearded police officer's face was full of suspicion. "I saw you and him came here together. You are accomplices."
"I don't deny that we are accomplices, but we are both innocent. Besides, my father is a member of Congress. It is impossible for me to do anything to damage his reputation." Zhang Jiajia had to bring up her father, otherwise it would not be convincing.
"Congressman?" The police present were in a panic. Congressmen are not city councilors. Each of them is a powerful figure with omnipotence. If she is really the daughter of a congressman, she cannot be arrested.
"What's your father's name?" a female police officer asked Zhang Jiajia.
"His last name is Zhang."
"Zhang, let me check." The policewoman used her phone to search online for the members of the Ludo Galaxy Congress and read them out loud. "Zhang Jiaxin, male, 47 years old, currently a member of the Ludo Galaxy Alliance Congress and a representative of the opposition Emerging Party. His father served two terms as Secretary of State. He has a daughter, whose name and appearance are being kept secret."
"Your name and appearance are confidential. How do we know it's you?" the bearded man said with his arms folded across his chest.
"The guy you just arrested can prove that he knows me," said Zhang Jiajia.
"Well, even if you're a well-known person, that doesn't prove this person isn't a bad person," another police officer said. "Perhaps you've been deceived. Do you know his background?"
Zhang Jiajia was speechless for a moment. She only knew his name was Wang Xiaohai and that he was a martial artist during the process of buying the spaceship, but she knew nothing else.
"Are you done talking? I have to leave now. I don't have time to chat with you." Wang Xiaohai was about to doze off.
"Catch him," the bearded officer said. They didn't dare to arrest Zhang Jiajia, but Wang Xiaohai and the others had no qualms.
Wang Xiaohai reached out and grabbed the bearded policeman, using him as a shield in front of him. The policewoman hurriedly fired a shot at Wang Xiaohai, and then hit the bearded man's chest. Warm blood flowed out. If he was not rescued in time, he would be 100% dead.
"Stop, stop right there!" The sheriff came over. "My friend, please put down the police officer in your hand. You know you are surrounded by us and there is no escape."
Wang Xiaohai knew he was talking nonsense, but he treated it as a game, a game he didn't take too seriously. He was thinking about how to further advance Ludo Galaxy technology and create interstellar spacecraft—that was his goal, and nothing else mattered to him. He thought about the war between Ludo Galaxy and the evil spirits. If the war could accelerate technological development, he didn't need to stop it; he could just observe calmly.
Wang Xiaohai finally understood why emotions diminished the closer he got to godhood—because his perspectives and thoughts changed. He needed to develop, to find opportunities to advance, or else face a major crisis. He thought of his lost friends. To save them, he could provoke an interstellar war, even watch a planet's destruction. For example, even if he wanted to save them, he couldn't. He wasn't yet a match for the Seraph Whitewood. Forcing a rescue would only cost him his life. Indeed, the closer one gets to godhood, the more rational one becomes, and the less emotional one becomes.
"Get out of the way quickly, or he will die." Wang Xiaohai held the bearded policeman as he walked towards the police car at the edge of the square. This was the hostage in his hand.
On the rooftop of a nearby high-rise building, a calm sniper aimed his eightfold scope at Wang Xiaohai. He was five hundred meters away from Wang Xiaohai. He calculated the wind direction and Wang Xiaohai's movement speed, then pulled the trigger.
A sniper bullet with spiral patterns on it whizzed in the air and flew towards Wang Xiaohai's eyebrows. This was a bullet silenced by a silencer, shot by the best sniper in the city. No one in the world could escape it.
But Wang Xiaohai didn't hide at all. He just leaned slightly to the side and put the beard back to its original position on his head.
"Bang—"
The sniper shot and killed his colleague, and his calm heart began to tremble. He didn't understand how this person could have just avoided it. Human reaction speed should not be able to avoid the sniper bullet. Is it a coincidence?
Wang Xiaohai got into the sheriff's hovercraft and turned the key. He found that the sheriff's car was not locked. He probably thought that since he was right next to it, no one would dare to drive away the sheriff's car under the sheriff's nose. Obviously he was wrong, so the car was driven away by Wang Xiaohai.
"Command center, please be advised that one of the attacker's accomplices drove away my car. Please intercept him and put him on the wanted list." The sheriff took out a walkie-talkie and contacted the nearby command center.
Wang Xiaohai was wanted again. He thought he was acting in self-defense, but no one agreed with him and they all shot at the hovercraft he was driving.
