"Is your method reliable?" Princess Shu was still skeptical.
Wang Xiaohai was holding a dagger he had taken from a concubine and knocking on the wall of the Zhou Kingdom's ancestral hall. The room next to it was a storage room, which contained miscellaneous items such as incense, candles, gold foil and paper money. At this moment, Wang Xiaohai lit a candle on the table, otherwise he would not be able to see the surrounding situation clearly.
"Hold on, I'm listening to the reflection from the wall," Wang Xiaohai said. "The thickness of the wall varies, and the sound is different."
After searching for an hour, Wang Xiaohai finally found a weak point in the wall of the utility room.
"Fortunately, the incense and candles here are in boxes, otherwise it would be difficult to work in the dark." Wang Xiaohai can only see things with his sight now, and his strength is only slightly stronger than when he and Li Dalong were studying. After all, he has become a god, so his vision and experience are naturally different.
"Do you need my help?" Princess Shu felt like a bystander with nothing to do.
"Pay attention to the candle flame. When it is about to go out, light a new one to keep the flame going, okay?" Wang Xiaohai tried to drill a hole in the wall with the dagger in his hand.
The dagger made a sharp sound as it scraped against the blue bricks of the wall. It was loud and piercing. Princess Shu groaned and covered her ears with her hands. She was afraid that she would vomit blood if she continued to listen. She didn't like the sound of the knife scraping against hard stone.
Wang Xiaohai glanced at Princess Shu and continued working. He gripped the knife tightly in his right hand, veins on his knuckles were visible, and his strength was so great that it seemed as if he was about to crush the handle of the knife.
"Close the door and plug your ears with cotton cloth." Wang Xiaohai pulled Princess Shu's hand away from her ear and said, "Don't let anyone outside know what we are doing."
Princess Shu did as she was told, then plugged her ears with cotton cloth soaked in water. Except for adding wax, she kept covering her ears with her hands.
It took Wang Xiaohai five hours to drill a hole in the wall. The hole was only the size of a big toe and about half a meter long.
"It's just an ancestral temple. Do we need such thick bricks?" Wang Xiaohai rubbed his slightly sore wrist.
"Is this even possible?" Princess Shu looked at the hole in the wall that was only wide enough for her toes—is this the result of all their hard work? At this rate, it would probably take three days to make a hole the size of her head! She felt a little discouraged.
"You must have confidence in the teacher. I'll give you ten minutes to eat." Wang Xiaohai said, pressing his face against the wall and looking at the hole opposite.
Wang Xiaohai felt relieved when he didn't see the guards. It seemed that these guys were very confident about the wall and believed that it was absolutely impossible for anyone to come out from the wall.
After Princess Shu finished eating two lotus cakes, Wang Xiaohai also stuffed a bun into his mouth and continued to work.
One day later.
Wang Xiaohai drilled four more holes, but his speed slowed down as he went on. Blisters had formed on his palms, and the tip of the dagger had been worn off and rounded, which was the reason why his speed slowed down.
Princess Shu has given up. She believes that Zhou Jian will set fire to the palace as soon as three days are up. She has to wait until the sacrifice is over before taking action. Otherwise, his forced ascension to the throne will leave him with a bad reputation of being unfilial.
Wang Xiaohai stabbed the dagger into the wooden box next to him, then lay down on the utility table and closed his eyes to rest.
"You don't want to dig holes anymore?" asked Princess Shu.
"I'm tired, let me take a break," Wang Xiaohai said. "I'm not a robot. Even robots get worn out."
"What is a robot?" Princess Shu pulled off the cotton cloth that was plugging her ears because she felt that Wang Xiaohai's voice was a little soft and she could hardly hear clearly.
"You should rest for a while too. We need to break out tonight." Wang Xiaohai reminded, "We need to conserve our energy now."
"At night?" Princess Shu suspected that the cotton cloth was still stuffed in her ears.
"Yes, at night, what's the problem?" Wang Xiaohai explained. "During the day, the enemy's vision is not affected, and they are in good spirits, so they can be easily discovered if they go out. At night, the enemy can only chase people with torches, which affects their vision. Moreover, the soldiers are tired and more likely to leave."
"That's not what I meant," Princess Shu said. "I meant there's only a hole in the wall the size of five people's toes. How can we get out? We're not flies or mosquitoes that can fly out."
"Don't worry about that. Take a rest first, and you will know when the time comes." Wang Xiaohai smiled. "If you had let me kill the third prince Zhou Jian last time, we wouldn't have ended up like this. Being kind to the enemy is being cruel to yourself." After he said that, he closed his eyes and rested.
Princess Shu had no choice but to lean against the wooden box to rest.
Wang Xiaohai seemed to wake up at the exact time.
The candle in the utility room had gone out and it was pitch black all around. Wang Xiaohai saw the flint and candle in the faint moonlight coming through the hole in the wall. He reached out, rubbed the flint, and lit the candle.
Princess Shu woke up when she heard the sound. She still felt a little dizzy, as if she had not gotten enough sleep.
"Eat something." Wang Xiaohai threw two buns and an egg to Princess Shu.
Princess Shu took the bun and felt hungry, so she took a big bite of it.
“It’s rotten!”
Princess Shu quickly spat it out. The sauerkraut package had been left under the hot candlelight for too long and had a bad smell.
"It just has a slight taste, but it's still edible," Wang Xiaohai said. "If you want to go hungry, don't eat it."
"Aren't we going out now?" Princess Shu said. "We'll have a big meal outside."
Wang Xiaohai had nothing to say. He only ate a steamed bun, which had no taste.
"Stay away, I'm going to attack!"
Wang Xiaohai lit two candles to illuminate the five holes on the wall. He compared them with his fingers, pulled out the dagger inserted in the wooden box, and connected the five holes in pairs. Soon, a pentagonal pattern wrapped in a five-pointed star appeared on the wall.
Wang Xiaohai jumped up and kicked the unmarked center of the five-pointed star on the wall!
"boom--"
Cracks appeared inside the holes, and then a large section of the wall within the five holes collapsed outward, rocks fell, and smoke filled the air.
A large hole, big enough for people to escape, appeared in front of the two.
"This is so surprising. How did you do it?" Princess Shu originally thought that Wang Xiaohai had done something that was impossible, and her confidence in him increased greatly!
"Because I found the stress concentration point on this wall and broke it with clever force." Wang Xiaohai said, "Let's go quickly. The enemy must have heard such a loud noise!" After he said that, he pulled Princess Shu to the cave entrance and left the Ancestral Selection Hall.
Under the moonlight, a group of guards holding bows ran towards the side of the palace, their movements in unison and steps in unison.
"Hurry up!" Wang Xiaohai saw Princess Shu's speed and knew that she would not be able to escape at her speed, so he pulled her and ran faster.
The two of them were moving faster and faster, soon leaving these bulky armored soldiers far behind and disappearing among the palaces.
Five minutes later.
"Where is this?" The two men didn't know the way and came to a deserted palace. Under the moonlight, the ground was overgrown with weeds, and in front of them were ruins. Under the half-broken beams, two black spiders were crawling away rapidly.
