When Wang Xiaohai and Princess Shu jumped off the carriage, they did not find any signs of surveillance. Besides, it was dark now, and they would have to get very close if they wanted to monitor them!
"Is this the governor's residence?" Wang Xiaohai asked.
"Yes, this is the Qizhou Governor's residence in the capital. He usually lives in Qizhou and rarely stays in the capital." Princess Shu stood in front of the Governor's residence, looking at the heavy double doors. "Should we climb in?"
"I'll climb in and help you open the door," said Wang Xiaohai.
Princess Shu nodded in agreement.
"No, if you are assassinated by someone when I climb in, then all my efforts will be wasted, right?" Wang Xiaohai said to Princess Shu. He took out a jade hairpin from her head, inserted it into the crack of the mansion door, fiddled with it for a few times, and heard the sound of the door bolt behind loosening and falling off. He reached out and pushed it, and the two of them walked in at the same time.
Wang Xiaohai locked the door again and walked into the hall with Princess Shu.
"You said they were not at home, so why did they bolt the door?" Princess Shu asked, her tone exactly the same as when she told ghost stories about the palace.
"This is very simple. The governor left a servant to guard the mansion. There should be a small door behind the mansion. The servant usually goes in and out through the small door. The small door should be an iron door and can be locked." Wang Xiaohai analyzed.
Princess Shu was still a little nervous after hearing this: "Do you think he will live in the mansion?"
"Didn't you tell me that there was no one in the mansion?" Wang Xiaohai said.
"I just said that the governor is not at home." Princess Shu immediately shirked responsibility.
"It's okay. If you encounter it, just explain it to him." Wang Xiaohai said, "If he doesn't understand the bigger picture—"
"Will you kill him?" Princess Shu continued.
"No, I will lock him up and feed him three times a day until we leave," Wang Xiaohai said. "I always kill people for a reason. I don't kill for fun."
The two of them walked up to the pavilion of the Governor's Mansion. Princess Shu rested in her room on the third floor, while Wang Xiaohai stood at the railing, gazing at the Princess's Mansion, waiting for Lin Cun to bring the tiger talisman. Princess Shu didn't dare turn on the lights in her room, relying only on the dim starlight to discern the position of her bed and pillow.
Wang Xiaohai estimated that the people left behind at the Governor's Mansion would only come back to inspect it in a few days. After all, if someone had a home, they would definitely go home to reunite with their family. Who would want to live in this cold, dark, and eerie mansion? Besides, no one would know if they didn't come to see him. Even if there was a thief, what could he do alone? He would only risk his life! So most people would just casually check around at dawn and leave.
At dawn, Wang Xiaohai saw from the pavilion that the small door in the backyard of the mansion was opened with a key. An elderly man came in. He walked around downstairs, then locked the door and left.
"Did Lincun come back last night?" Princess Shu had woken up and asked behind Wang Xiaohai.
"No, could it be that the Minister of War is hiding very secretly?" Wang Xiaohai felt that Lin Cun was very smart and his efficiency would not be so low. He must have encountered difficulties.
"Then you go and rest, I'll observe." Princess Shu saw several teams of guards patrolling in her mansion, but did not see Lin Cun in her mansion.
"It's daylight now, unlike the night. You'll be easily exposed if you stand here and observe," Wang Xiaohai said. "Get a stool and sit behind the railing. Place two flower pots to block your head. Then observe quietly through the gap between the two pots. That way, the people below won't be able to see you."
"Oh, I see." Princess Shu nodded in agreement, and moved the flower pot from the distant corridor and placed it on the railing. There was a carved red chair in the room on the third floor, so she moved over, leaned against the railing, hid her body behind the honeysuckle pot, and looked down.
Wang Xiaohai fell asleep quickly.
In a daze, Princess Shu woke him up.
"What's wrong?" Wang Xiaohai still felt a little dizzy.
"Lin Cun is back and is now in the mansion." Princess Shu said.
Wang Xiaohai stood up from the bed. He felt a little hungry. He wondered how long he had slept. His stomach rumbled as he stood up.
"Is it evening now?" Wang Xiaohai asked.
"No, it's just dusk," said Princess Shu.
"Have you eaten? You could have woken me up earlier." Wang Xiaohai stood up and saw a basin of water at the bedside, so he took it to wash his face.
"It's okay, I can hold on." Princess Shu said.
"You're hungry too, right?" Wang Xiaohai said, "Call Lincun later, and the three of us will go have dinner together."
"How do we notify him? He's inside the mansion right now. I suspect someone is watching him," Princess Shu said. "I saw a man selling sugar paintings and another selling pancakes circling outside the mansion since this morning. Even when customers approached him to buy sugar paintings, he didn't react."
Wang Xiaohai looked through the potted plants and saw two people near the princess's mansion. The one selling sugar paintings was at the front door, and the one selling pancakes was at the back door.
"It's okay. They were only paying attention to the door. They didn't pay attention to monitoring the sky. It was a blind spot in their vision." Wang Xiaohai said.
When he saw the man selling sugar paintings, scenes flashed through his memory. He and Yunmei had bought sugar paintings together. Unfortunately, he was the only one in the universe who remembered that there had been such a person. Yunmei had disappeared from everyone's memory.
"What do you mean?" Princess Shu didn't understand.
"Watch carefully!"
Wang Xiaohai picked up a round stone placed on the flowerpot, aimed at Lincun in the princess's mansion, and threw it hard.
The rain flower stone flew in the air, drew a beautiful arc, and smashed into pieces in front of Lin Cun.
"Is this a few hundred meters away?" Princess Shu asked in surprise, "How did you hit it so accurately?"
"Who!" Lin Cun shouted in the princess's mansion. He looked around but didn't see anyone.
Wang Xiaohai's second stone continued to hit Lin Cun. Lin Cun then realized that he had been noticed. Since there was no one around, then it could only be—
above!
Lin Cun looked up and saw something unusual on the three-story pavilion of the Governor's Mansion - two flower pots placed abruptly on the railing and a figure walking behind him.
Wang Xiaohai found a piece of paper from the back room and wrote on it: "Someone is watching." Then he tied it to the rain flower stone and threw it over.
Lin Cun picked up the note, then silently climbed over the side wall, made a big turn, jumped in from the back door of the Governor's Mansion, and soon met up with Wang Xiaohai.
"Have you found the tiger talisman?" Wang Xiaohai asked.
"Found it. Where's yours?" Lincun asked, "Is there any change? I noticed that the guards in the palace are much stricter than usual."
"I found mine a long time ago, on the Third Prince Zhou Jian." Wang Xiaohai said, "The surveillance personnel in front of the palace were also sent by him."
"Really? When I left the palace, I heard the guards talking about the new emperor summoning all officials to hold a coronation ceremony tomorrow." Lincun said, "We have to speed up."
"Let's find a place to eat first and then we'll talk."
As Wang Xiaohai spoke, he took the two of them to the back door. He easily broke the lock of the back door of the Governor's Mansion with a thin iron wire, and the three of them quietly left.
