Ten tall and strong centurions stood in the tent like students being punished.
All the centurions were wearing bronze armor, and the ten of them seemed to move in unison, looking mighty and domineering.
"Commanders, we are now in trouble and at a critical moment of life and death," Guan Zeyuan said, "You must make a choice." He then briefly explained the plan of attacking the palace to the ten commanders.
In fact, Guan Zeyuan and Wang Xiaohai both kept the secret secret, because he understood that even if the third prince ascended the throne, the responsibility would generally be traced back to the level of the captain of ten thousand men. There were too many people below that level, and the law could not hold everyone responsible.
After listening to what Guan Zeyuan said in the military tent, the ten captains all looked serious and silent, and did not express their opinions immediately. Among them were several of Guan Zeyuan's confidants.
"General Guan, I can join." A captain in the middle said, "My parents died in the attack of Jiang State ten years ago. I have no family, so I am not afraid!"
Then several more centurions joined in. Ten minutes later, half had joined, and the other half remained silent - neither joining nor objecting.
"I choose to withdraw." A captain put down the captain's token on his waist. "I was born into a big family and I don't want to make my family suffer."
"What did you say! Are you sure you will fail before we even take action?" The first captain to join was called Yan Zhuang, who was now glaring at this captain angrily.
"Regardless of success or failure, I cannot participate. I cannot gamble on winning or losing. The cost is too high!" said the centurion.
"Who else wants to withdraw?" Guan Zeyuan looked around the tent.
Two more people dropped out. Now there were five people who joined, three who dropped out, and two who hesitated.
"Those who are quitting, put your centurion tokens back on the table." Guan Zeyuan patted the table, and the dust and small objects on the table jumped up and fell back down.
The three centurions who withdrew released their tokens and turned around.
Yan Zhuang drew his sword and slashed three times, killing the three retreating captains.
"Who else wants to quit now?" Guan Zeyuan, the captain of ten thousand men, put away the three captain tokens on the table.
The remaining two centurions saw their three former colleagues on the ground and said, "We are willing to live and die with General Guan!"
"Very good. Here are three thousand-man tokens." Guan Zeyuan said, "Yan Zhuang, you take one, and the first two people who joined in front take one each. Those who are capable will work harder. The one who gets two tokens will be promoted to the commander-in-chief, which is a new position." He threw the three tokens on the table again.
The three captains, including Yan Zhuang, picked up the Thousand Captain Order together, then stepped back and stood in a row with the other four.
"Also, this gentleman is now the military supervisor of our army, and his status is the same as mine. You must obey his command during battle." Guan Zeyuan pointed at Wang Xiaohai.
Wang Xiaohai stepped forward and said, "First, let me introduce myself. My name is Wang Xiaohai. All the thousand-man captains, when you return, give orders to the centurions. Just tell them the direction of action and what to do. No need to explain anything else. When we reach the woods in front of the capital, select a few quick-moving centurions to follow me and lurk by the river. Wait for me to go over and lower the suspension bridge. Then you rush across the suspension bridge and control the guards at the city gate. Then Yan Zhuang's thousand-man team will follow, and the other nine thousand will follow, and we will rush straight to the palace! Do you understand?"
"Understood!" said the seven centurions at the same time.
"Then everyone, hurry down and prepare, don't let the news leak out." Guan Zeyuan touched his waist, which still hurt a little, and thought to himself that Wang Xiaohai was really cruel.
Half an hour later, all the soldiers were ready. Three generals formed three thousand-man troops in the front, middle and rear to prevent rebellion and escape.
The night in the capital is quiet.
Wang Xiaohai used a long rope from the army to fly across the moat, and just like before, he hooked onto the battlement and jumped over.
There was only one guard guarding the winch of the suspension bridge at the city gate, and he was dozing off. Wang Xiaohai went over and cut it off with a sword. The guard woke up in shock and was about to scream, but was knocked unconscious by Wang Xiaohai's palm.
Yan Zhuang led several teams of hundreds of people into the city with coordinated movements and incredible speed. The suspension bridge above the entire moat began to shake and was almost crushed.
When a hundred people rushed into the capital, the guards at the city gate woke up from their sleep, hurriedly put on their helmets and stood up, but unfortunately the enemy had already surrounded them!
"It's the strongest Yulin Army of Zhou Kingdom!" The soldiers defending the city were desperate. In fact, they were just recruited temporarily and had never learned any martial arts or gun skills. Faced with the Yulin Army, which was as fierce as wolves and tigers, they could only surrender.
"General Yan Zhuang, send a few people to the princess's mansion to notify the soldiers in the mansion to come together." Wang Xiaohai ordered.
There were sporadic resistances at the city gates, but they were quickly overwhelmed by the tide of Yulin troops.
"Come on, follow me to see the princess." Wang Xiaohai said to Guan Zeyuan.
The two of them walked towards the hotel where the princess was staying.
Wang Xiaohai was very happy to have Guan Zeyuan with him. Although there were some deceptions and threats, he was successful as long as he did not return empty-handed!
He didn't want to fall to the level of relying on assassinations to gain influence like others. He felt that was too unskilled!
Princess Shu stood at the door of the room. She was not asleep because she was very anxious and had something on her mind. She couldn't sleep. She felt that the past few days had been longer than the previous few years, and she looked much more haggard.
Wang Xiaohai and Guan Zeyuan walked quickly up to the hotel. The sound came from the stairs. Princess Shu turned around hurriedly after hearing it.
"I pay my respects to the princess!"
Guan Zeyuan stepped forward, knelt on one knee, and clasped his hands together.
"Please stand up. There's no need to be so formal between us." Princess Shu helped Captain Guan Zeyuan up.
"Isn't Commander Zhao of the Yulin Army here?" asked Princess Shu.
"Things have changed. Let's go inside and tell you the details." Wang Xiaohai pulled Princess Shu and Guan Zeyuan into the house, then closed the door behind him.
"Lincun betrayed us both. I don't know why?" said Wang Xiaohai.
"What!" Princess Shu cried out, "Didn't he come from the same place as you? Didn't he come together with you?"
"Maybe he has other ideas." Wang Xiaohai said, "When he saw the mosquito in the lampshade, he must have thought that his destiny should be in his own hands. Why leave it to the unknown? I understand. If you help me together, the final distribution principle may be to give me one. But if he sends the troops to attack Qizhou alone, the credit will be his alone!"
Princess Shu could understand the first half of Wang Xiaohai's sentence, but she couldn't quite understand the rest.
"Fortunately, General Guan Zeyuan is willing to join us," Wang Xiaohai said. "At least it wasn't wasted."
Princess Shu walked towards Guan Zeyuan and said, "If we succeed, you will be my Minister of War and Commander-in-Chief of the Imperial Guards, and you will be granted the title of Duke of Zhenguo."
"I will not refuse even if it means death!" Guan Zeyuan, the commander of ten thousand men, knelt down again sincerely.
After waiting for half an hour, the guards of the princess's mansion finally arrived, along with two loyal men, Heilin and Heisen.
