Being calculated again
Alred slid his fingers across the female insect's straight nose, and his fingertips slowly smoothed the other's frown. He guessed who the troublesome betrayer was. Although he felt unhappy, he pretended to be a confidant and said, "Do what you think is right. Right or wrong is not important."
Mu Xiao supported his face with one hand, and unconsciously held the handle of the cup with the other hand. He was conflicted, but he still came to the coffee shop as agreed. Outside the floor-to-ceiling window, countless strangers passed by, but there was no familiar face.
"Ding-ling-ling." The crisp sound of wind chimes rang as the door opened. He looked over and saw the guest insect who had just entered the room brushing away the feathers hanging on its soft hair. The hair that had not been trimmed for a long time covered most of the insect's face, but he still recognized it at a glance.
He looked at Nuowen who was getting closer and closer to him. His tense and inward-curved body and dirty clothes were hard to match with the high-spirited insect in his memory. It was as if the past of the desolate planet was just a bizarre and strange illusion, and the insect that walked out of it had almost shed its skin.
The joy of reunion after a long separation only occupied his mind for a few seconds before Mu Xiao realized something was wrong. Ruowen's expression of looking around did not seem like they had made an appointment in advance, but rather like they had met suddenly and were afraid of being discovered by other insects. He reacted instantly and immediately stood up and tried to pull the female insect away.
But the bugs at the next table were one step faster than him. Several bugs quickly held Ruo Wen tightly with their hands and feet. Mu Xiao's hand holding the wing sword was ready to move. If he took action here, it would easily attract the patrolling police bugs nearby and he would be deprived of his right to live there. He was wavering in his heart, but the rationality that had prevailed for many years gradually collapsed.
"Don't be in a hurry." The door of the lounge opened from the inside, and the culprit behind the scenes came out with a cup of coffee. The hot steam covered the lenses with a layer of white mist.
Morse folded his glasses, which had no prescription, in half and hung them on his collar. He raised his eyes, as blue as the sky, and Ruowen was the eagle framing this world. "Long time no see."
Mu Xiao turned his wrist, and the next second the winged sword was across the male insect's neck with distinct blood vessels. He didn't want to give in, but the other party's attitude was stiff. The two of them were deadlocked in place, and the sharp sword blade pressed against the delicate flesh for a long time, leaving a bloody mark.
"That's enough." Ruowen, who had been silent all this time, suddenly shouted, but his next words completely lost their confidence: "Morse, I'm going with you."
Hearing this, Morse was not as happy as he had imagined. The female insect who once held him in her arms spoke in a cold and distant tone, which made him very uncomfortable. There was an unspeakable emotion stuck in his heart, but he couldn't find the reason.
He pretended to be complacent and taunted the indignant Mu Xiao, "Did you hear that, Mu Xiao? Stop interfering in everything."
"Are you sick? I should be grateful to you for being used by you?" Mu Xiao was tired of being teased. He knew that cooperating with Morse was like courting disaster, but he didn't expect him to challenge his bottom line again and again.
Morse waved to the insects nearby, signaling them to take Ruo Wen away. When he was left alone with the fussy female insect in the coffee shop, he said, "If you're dissatisfied, you can kill me now."
The farce just now gathered a group of insects who came to watch the show. In the eyes of those insects, Mu Xiao was a savage female who was disrespectful to male insects. If she dared to make a move, she would be punished by the Male Insect Protection Association at any time. He was so angry that his hands were shaking. He picked up the coffee next to him and splashed it in Morse's face: "Insects like you will never deserve anyone's love."
Morse pulled out a handkerchief and wiped his brown-stained white shirt. These harsh words suddenly met with Ruowen's cold expression. He forced a smile and whispered, "Impossible."
Mu Xiao was too lazy to argue with him, so he turned around and walked out of the coffee shop that he had silently blocked. He had only recently obtained leave from the base and would be returning to the base tomorrow. Not only did he fail to remove the mark from Alred during this vacation, but he also caused Ruowen to fall into the wolf's den, leaving him exhausted both physically and mentally.
He thought he had some time to catch his breath, but when he returned to the base with his luggage the next day, he saw Anthony who had been waiting for him for a long time. The male insect's face became even paler after not seeing him for a few days. Seeing him come back, he happily went to take the suitcase. Although he refused, the cold hands still snatched it away.
The two insects walked side by side in the shade of the trees. Anthony's breathing became heavier with every step he took. He suppressed the urge to cough and said, "Do you want to remove Alred's mark?"
Mu Xiao shook his head decisively and said frankly: "There is no way I can cut ties with him."
Anthony stopped and eagerly took Mu Xiao's hand, laying out his prepared bargaining chips: "You and him can't get far, and I can help you at the base. Aren't you going to investigate the Toad Tribe's purpose in capturing male insects? I can help you, and I can also help you find out more."
"I don't have much time left, so I won't restrict you from doing anything." He was afraid that the conditions were not enough to attract insects, so he continued to increase the bid.
Mu Xiao hesitated. He weighed the weight of responsibility and emotion again, but the scales tilted slightly towards the former: "Why are you so weak?"
Anthony coughed violently as soon as he finished speaking. He endured the dull pain in his lungs, wiped the blood from the corner of his mouth with the back of his hand, and expressed his sincerity: "While I was working with Toad, I was also an experimental subject."
Mu Xiao could almost guess the reason. He needed more evidence to bring down the base, so he asked firmly, "How should I remove the mark?"
Anthony finally got what he wanted. He opened his eyes wide with joy, and even his lifeless face became more lively. "I'll go back tonight to prepare the materials and help you tomorrow. Wait for me, okay?"
Mu Xiao turned his head to look at Anthony who was sharing interesting stories, and always felt that something was wrong. It was not that he doubted his own charm, but that he liked her too much, and it always seemed like he was plotting something.
But during this time together, he didn't find that the other party was trying to get anything from him. Maybe he was overthinking it.
Out of guilt, Mu Xiao didn't reply to Alred's message that day. He watched with a headache as the terminal kept jumping to the video call interface. He simply took the terminal off and put it on the table, comforting himself in his heart that as long as he finished these things, there would still be time to rekindle their old relationship.
The rapid knocks on the door were like heavy rain. He silently complained, "Why are you so impatient?" Then he pressed the button beside the bed and the door opened automatically.
The male insect quickly walked up to him and pulled out a transparent test tube from his pocket. He could clearly see the slowly wriggling black nematodes inside, and goose bumps appeared on his arms. "What should I do?"
Anthony shook the test tube in his hand and explained, "It's very simple. Let it get into the gland and eliminate it."
"Will it be able to come out?" Mu Xiao breathed a sigh of relief. Fortunately, he didn't eat it, but it was still disgusting to let the primitive worms drill into his body.
"How could that be? The gland will dissolve automatically." The male insect's confident tone gave him some psychological comfort.
A short pain is worse than a long one. Mu Xiao unbuttoned the buttons, pulled the clothes down to his shoulders, and then closed his eyes and said, "Let it go."
"Then don't regret it." Anthony opened the lid of the test tube and introduced the nematode into the fragile gland. Tiny holes were drilled in the gland, and he also showed a successful smile.
