Chapter 21 Kitchen Assassin
Su Yu had always thought that the Hua family couple simply liked sending Hua Xian to the kitchen.
Looking at the crackling flames in the stove, the flames that occasionally leaped out from the middle of the broken pot, and Hua Xian, covered in soot and coughing incessantly.
Su Yu's mind went blank.
...It's just a fire, how could it burn the pot like that?
A few hours ago.
The servants of the Hua family, following the orders of their master, arrived at Su Yu's courtyard before lunch, intending to take him to the kitchen to supervise their young master's cooking.
Aside from Feng Shier insisting on coming along, the journey went smoothly without any dramatic incidents like getting lost or being ambushed.
Of course, Su Yu immediately agreed after Xiao Shier asked to go along.
After all, Feng Twelve has always been well-behaved and wouldn't cause trouble. Besides, Su Yu had previously left him to his own devices because it wasn't convenient to take him with him. Although Little Twelve seemed quite willing to cultivate quietly by himself, Su Yu still felt it wasn't right.
How can a child this age always stay cooped up indoors? It would be nice to take him to play in the kitchen.
With a relaxed mood, Su Yu took Feng Twelve's hand and followed the servants to the kitchen.
Inside the kitchen, chaos reigned.
"Hey! Where do you think you're going!"
The sounds of pots and pans clattering could be heard continuously, along with the wails of people.
"Hey, hey, it's here! It's here!"
"Young master, please take it easy. Or perhaps I should do it?"
Then came Hua Xian's eager and defiant voice: "Get out of my way, I'm sure I can scrape its scales off and cook it today!"
"Clap clap clap".
It was the sound of a fish tail slapping against the ground, splashing and thrashing.
"Ha! Got it!"
Hua Xian collapsed onto the ground in the entire city, pressing the fish firmly to the ground with both hands.
Besides the fish, a pair of pure black boots appeared before them. Looking up, they were the very servant who had brought Su Yu there.
The servant lowered his head and remained silent for a while.
He said expressionlessly, "Young Master, you should go and start the fire."
Hua Xian's expression went blank for a moment, then she jumped up, clutching the fish, shouting, "I won't—"
Before she could finish speaking, the servant in front of her used magic to remove the struggling fish from Hua Xian's arms and throw it back into the bucket.
Hua Xian scratched his head in frustration and said, "I was just helping the chef kill a fish, Brother Anu, what brings you here?"
Anu calmly replied, "I'll bring a guest to supervise your work."
He paused for a moment, then looked around the kitchen, focusing on the overturned pots, the tipped-over vegetable baskets, and the wet, flour-covered floor. He then looked at Hua Xian again and said, "The head of the family asked me to come and take a look, and to help you choose a suitable job so as not to cause trouble for the kitchen staff."
"Alright, alright, let's start the fire," Hua Xian pouted but didn't argue. When she stood up and saw Su Yu and Feng Twelve behind Anu, her eyes lit up instantly, and she said with emotion, "Great, I have a demon to keep me company!"
Su Yu nodded politely, since he didn't have to do any work anyway.
At Anu's signal, the cooks and kitchen helpers who had been trembling around the young master of the Hua family dispersed and continued their work. Hua Xian sat on a small stool behind the stove and stuffed the chopped firewood into the fire pit.
Su Yu and Feng Shier each got a small stool and leisurely watched.
He gave Feng Twelve a handful of melon seeds to crack open, while Su Yu frantically searched through the cultivation manuals the system had given him. To others, it looked like he was daydreaming.
Time passed by, and the kitchen staff prepared the dishes. The chef was ready to stir-fry the dishes in a pot that had been heated for a while.
"Crackling and popping—"
Hua Xian would casually stuff firewood into the fire pit, or use fire tongs to pok at the burning firewood in the hearth.
"Crackling sound—"
The flames in the hearth leaped and danced, their color slowly changing, gradually turning a magnificent and eerie blue-purple.
The intense heat silently distorted the space around the flames.
A huge tongue of flame shot up from the bottom of the pot, the iron pot cracked, and shattered fragments flew everywhere. The chef was caught off guard and stumbled backward, falling to the ground.
His cultivation level was not high, and he usually cooked for everyone in the manor. His reaction was not fast enough, and he only subconsciously used demonic energy to protect himself when he fell.
The moment Su Yu was jolted back to her senses by the loud bang, she grabbed Feng Twelve, who was sitting on a small stool to the side, and covered his ears.
Little Twelve's ears were a little cold, but they warmed up in a little while.
"Cough cough..." Hua Xian, his face covered in soot, poked his head out from behind the stove, coughing and fanning the soot with his hand, asking suspiciously, "What the hell is this? Is this stove and pot of bad quality?!"
Anu stepped forward to help the frightened cook to his feet, looking at the broken pot and muttering, "Looks like even starting a fire won't work..."
"Hey, Anu, what do we do now?"
Anu snapped out of her reverie and looked at Hua Xian, suppressing the urge to sigh: "I'll have someone fetch a spare pot."
"However, young master, please go outside and chop wood."
Knowing she was in the wrong, Hua Xian shrank back and agreed, then scurried away to the kitchen. She then poked her head out again and waved to Su Yu.
Ah Jiu, come and supervise the work! He's so bored all by himself.
Su Yu released her hands from covering Feng Twelve's ears, picked up the small stool with one hand, and led Little Twelve out of the kitchen with the other.
They watched as Hua Xian chopped firewood.
Hua Xian only received permission from the head of the Hua family to finish the day after she had chopped enough firewood to make breakfast the next day.
"The head of the family also said that since you can only chop firewood now, then for the next month, you only need to chop enough firewood for the day."
Hua Xian happily thanked Anu for relaying the message, and then tried to persuade Ajiu to go out and play with him.
Anu accepted Hua Xian's thanks without changing his expression, nodded to Su Yu, and then turned and left.
Hua Xian was already thinking about other fun places to go.
This time, however, Su Yu shook her head and refused him.
"My cultivation still needs to be consolidated, so I don't plan to leave the manor for the time being."
Besides wanting to consolidate his cultivation, Su Yu also needed time to study the cultivation techniques given to him by the system, and he also needed to find a suitable partner for Feng Twelve.
The Su family's basic cultivation techniques are quite versatile, but they are completely unsuitable for demons.
Previously, I examined Feng Shier's bones and meridians. Based on the feedback from the demonic energy I detected, his meridians were thin and felt blocked, becoming increasingly dark the deeper I probed. From the perspective of how this world evaluates cultivation talent, it certainly didn't seem very good.
Su Yu used her mental power to scan the full compartment in the system space, picked out the one that was glowing with gold and put it in a separate compartment, then looked up a prescription for nourishing the tendons and veins from a "Complete Medical Encyclopedia" left by the system, and then found a book on basic sword techniques.
The books left by the system are mostly large volumes such as "Complete Collection of Elixir Formulas", "Complete Collection of Talismans", and "Illustrated Compendium of Exotic Treasures".
Su Yu stared at the prescription and fell into deep thought.
He doesn't know how to refine pills. Shouldn't that be his sister Su Yao's talent points?
A note fell from the book.
