Chapter 23 Challenge

Chapter 23 Challenge

Faced with the silence of the three people, Margaret chuckled and smoothed things over for them.

"Okay, Joan, everyone has their own expertise. Not everyone has to have top-notch combat capabilities," Margaret explained gently and seriously. "I said they are excellent not to trick you into coming here, but because I see the potential of this team." As she spoke, her eyes lingered on Chris for a moment, then turned back.

"Hehe..." Joan seemed to have reluctantly accepted this statement. She wanted to say something else but was interrupted by the class bell.

Like other students, Corris subconsciously looked towards the auditorium door, waiting for the familiar figure to appear at the door.

Chris knew that his concern for Nuhra had gone far beyond the norm, but he felt good about it. However, he couldn't figure out for a moment whether the throbbing in his heart came from Nuhra herself, or the excitement that Nuhra brought him, or even the other party's just right care?

His unconcealed gaze was focused on the slender and perfect body in the distance, and he subconsciously wanted to reach out to touch the necklace, but the next moment Corris came to his senses and did not move again, but just sat up straight.

"What's wrong with you?" Lauren asked in a low voice. His observation skills were so sharp that he could catch any unusual movements of anyone around him.

Kris shook his head slightly, indicating he was fine. Nuhra, at the podium, was explaining the requirements for forming teams, her eyes slowly scanning the class.

Chris and Lauren sensed something and stopped making eye contact, sitting still and staring straight ahead. Chris, caught off guard, met Nuhra's gaze, feeling a sense of guilt. He tried to look away, but his seat confined him.

There were five seats in this row, and he was sandwiched right in the middle. On his left were Joan and Margaret, and on his right were Lauren and Ian... For a moment, Chris didn't know which direction to look.

After an awkward feint, Chris raised his eyes honestly and looked forward with a straight face, but upon closer inspection, one could see that his eyes were not focused at all.

Maybe most people in the classroom didn't notice it, but Nuhra saw it... When Chris reacted, he could only see Nuhra's face with a faint smile.

"This is my last explanation of the course requirements," Nuhra said, his smile unchanged, his voice calm but with a hint of authority. "I hope you all will listen carefully and don't get distracted right after class." He paused for a few seconds in the general direction of Corris before continuing.

Chris subconsciously thought, no, he was almost certain that Nuhra was referring to him. Chris was embarrassed, unable to refute it. He had indeed been distracted just now... Now, after Nuhra's subtle reminder, any romantic thoughts disappeared.

Fortunately, Nuhra didn't say much, just gave a few pointers,

Today's class officially began. This lesson continued with the unfinished content from the previous one, introducing the composition of the Imperial Army's grassroots combat squads.

Nuhra's teaching style tends to be entertaining, stimulating students' thinking while imparting knowledge. Because of this, he intentionally or unintentionally asked students to answer open-ended questions. Many in the audience, eager to make a good impression, rushed to answer questions, creating a lively atmosphere.

The people at Chris's table seemed a bit out of place. Ian and Lauren didn't like answering class questions. Chris was worried that he would be too conscientious in front of Nuhra. Margaret and Joan didn't seem interested...

After Nuhra started the lecture, she no longer paid much attention to Corris, but continued to teach at a normal pace and interact with students.

Generally speaking, the atmosphere in Nuhra's class is relaxed and pleasant. He encourages all students who actively answer questions, and even when correcting their mistakes, he pays attention to maintaining students' self-confidence.

Nuhra finished what she was going to say, glanced down at the teaching terminal, and said, "Okay, that's it for this lesson."

"Next, I'm going to assign a task," Nuhra said seriously, his hands resting on the desk. "The assembled combat teams will have a professional skills competition."

"The combat cadets compete in combat skills, the medical and logistics cadets compete in wartime medical care and logistics, and the information and liaison cadets compete in communications support... These subjects are all related to what each cadet has studied and are the most essential qualities a combat team needs," Nuhra paused before continuing. "In addition, there's also a physical fitness test for all cadets."

There was an uproar in the audience. Some were eager to try, while others began to worry. Nuhra gestured for silence, and everyone was silent. He continued, "I will send the specific judging criteria and competition time to everyone within this week. Please prepare in advance."

"You can dismiss the get out of class now." As soon as Nuhra finished speaking, the bell rang, and Nuhra was surrounded again. Chris also saw Duke Johnson, who had bullied the original owner before... But he didn't care much about it. He took a look and turned his gaze away, walking out of the classroom with his newly-formed team members.

"Joan, would you like to join us?" Chris remembered that Joan seemed to still have concerns about joining their team before class, so he asked tentatively.

Joan walked a few steps faster than the others. Upon hearing this, she stopped and looked back at Chris, expressionless. Chris was a little uneasy, thinking that Joan was going to refuse, but Joan said, "I can join you—"

Before Corris could breathe a sigh of relief, June continued, "But I have a request."

Chris's heart, which had not yet completely calmed down, was immediately lifted up again. Ian stopped cheering abruptly in the middle of his cheering. Except for Margaret, several people could not help but hold their breath, waiting for the final judgment.

"All of you must train with me every day," Qiong said calmly. "Pay attention, everyone."

Even Margaret's smile disappeared. She tried to defend herself, "Joan, I don't need it..."

"We have no right to refuse anyone whose physical training has not reached the excellent level." Joan looked at everyone with pity. Chris and his group lowered their heads in shame. It was because the person who was closest to the excellent level was only Margaret, who had just passed the good level.

"Especially you, Kris," Joan said, staring directly at Kris, "and you're the first Operations Corps cadet to be forced to undergo physical training only in the basic gymnasium."

Chris was so embarrassed that he wanted to disappear, but what Joan said was all true - she even embellished it a lot and covered up the fact that Chris had alarmed the intelligent system's rescue program while exercising.

Fortunately, except for Joan, the few people were already immersed in grief. Instead of caring about Chris's embarrassing experience, everyone cared more about their future training.

"We can first set up a terminal contact group and discuss the training plan there," Chris suggested after recovering. "Lauren and Margaret have other classes later, so they have to go first."

"Oh, I still have classes!" Ian suddenly woke up, "In another teaching building... Anyway, I have to go to class."

Chris said sympathetically, "It's okay, everyone just go to class. We all have each other's contact information, so it's easy to chat in a group."

Everyone nodded in agreement and left, leaving only Joan and Corris standing there, staring at each other.

"Joan, are you going to exercise later?" Chris asked courageously.

"Yes," Qiong admitted readily, "It's still the same training ground as before. If you still want to learn from me, you can come."

When he first met Joan Davis, Curris had thought about asking her for advice, but Joan had directly rejected him. Unexpectedly, the opportunity came so quickly. Curris was naturally willing to accept this hard-earned opportunity. He happily responded, "Okay, thank you."

Joan waved her hand, indicating she understood, and left without looking back. Chris didn't have any other classes next, but he didn't want to go to the stadium right away...

After a moment's hesitation, Chris suddenly wanted to see if Nuhra was still in the classroom, so he turned around and tried to walk back. He walked straight through the door, but unexpectedly bumped into someone coming out of the auditorium. He reacted quickly, taking two steps back to keep his balance.

"Watch the road, classmate Kris." Kris hit his nose and burst into tears in pain. His vision was blurred, but he heard a familiar voice unexpectedly - it was Nuhra.

"Sorry, Professor Nuhra." Through continuous adaptation training, Chris can skillfully and freely switch the way he addresses Nuhra in different situations.

Nuhra chuckled and spoke in a very businesslike manner, "Be more careful in everything you do from now on. Don't be so anxious."

Sure enough, they were coming for him… Kris was speechless, but he maintained his respect for the professor. He had only wanted to glance at Nuhra, but now that he was confronted by her in person, he didn't know what to say.

Curris didn't say anything, and Nuhra waited patiently, not intending to leave—until a noisy voice sounded behind Curris—Duke Johnson! Curris gritted his teeth and kept cursing the thug in his heart.

Corris's brow furrowed in a look of undisguised annoyance. Nuhra, standing before him, noticed the change in his expression. She gently pushed Corris aside, took a few steps forward, and stood in front of him. She asked Duke with a warm and concerned look, "Excuse me, classmate?"

With Nuhra standing in front of him, Chris felt calmer. He stood behind Nuhra and watched Duke with a flattering look on his face with cold eyes.

"Admiral Nuhra, hello, hello. I admire you very much. My parents often use you as an example to teach me..." Duke half-bent his body, not at all like an imperial reserve soldier, more like an uneducated hooligan. "So I'll be honest. I'd like to apply for your teaching assistant position. What do you think?"

Nuhra was used to seeing people like this, so she declined with a smile. "Thank you, but I've already explained the regulations regarding teaching assistant applications. Please familiarize yourself with them."

"Also, I had the impression that your father hated me to the core. I never thought his son would actually adore me..." Nuhra glanced up and down at the groveling Duke before him and said meaningfully, "Johnson, go back and tell your father that I've informed the Marshal about the trade system..."

"So, don't do anything tricky." Nuhra lowered her eyes and looked at Duke's head lowering more and more expressionlessly. She calmly issued an ultimatum for Duke and the entire Johnson family.
