Chapter 24 Special Training
Duke knew the hidden meaning in Nuhra's words very well. He was speechless at this moment and dared not say more. He lowered his head so low that his face could not be seen at all.
Chris had no interest in watching this farce anymore and said coldly, "Professor, I have something else to do. I'll leave first." After that, he walked around the two people who were still in a stalemate in front of him and walked away without looking back.
Nuhra said "hmm" and followed Corris away, leaving Duke, who was scared out of his wits and sweat, standing there in silence.
Chris hadn't walked far when he slowed down his pace. He felt his anger was inexplicable, and his attitude towards Nuhra before leaving seemed rather rude, as if he had taken his anger out on Nuhra as well...
Chris sighed, turned into a deserted tea break area, took out his terminal, and planned to send a message to Nuhra to explain, but he was troubled by his wording.
"I thought you didn't want to see me." A familiar low male voice sounded behind Kris. Kris turned around, put down the terminal in his hand, and faced Nuhra who was walking slowly.
"Professor, you misunderstood." Chris ordered two cups of scented tea through the intelligent system and asked Nuhra to sit down. Nuhra readily complied and sat opposite Chris.
"I'm glad it was just my misunderstanding. I was worried that you would take your anger out on me because of some irrelevant people." Nuhra said with a smile, her tone vaguely carrying some... dissatisfaction of being ignored?
Curris suspected he had misheard, shook his head, and continued Nuhra's words: "I just have some old grudges with Duke Johnson, and I don't really want to see him."
"Old grudges..." Nuhra thought thoughtfully. Seeing that Kris didn't want to talk about it, he didn't ask any more questions. A robotic arm brought the scented tea and placed it in front of the two men. Kris gestured for him to have some tea.
Nuhra felt the edge of the teacup with his fingers, finding it just the right temperature. He picked it up and took a sip—it was one of the few teas he always liked. He looked up at Corris, catching a flash of anticipation on the young man's face, and understood.
"I quite like this tea." Nuhra seemed to praise it unintentionally. Chris's smile deepened and he said, "As long as you like it."
For a moment, the atmosphere between the two of them was quiet and peaceful, each sipping the elegant floral tea in their cups. Nuhra was the first to drink the tea in one gulp, then stood up to leave. "If you encounter any problems at school, you can come to me."
Chris didn't react and blinked, "Okay...?" He was a little unsure what Nuhra was talking about, so he agreed casually.
Nuhra stared at Chris for a while before turning away. Chris realized that Nuhra might be talking about his "old grudge" with Duke... He appreciated Nuhra's kindness, but Chris felt that he could not handle it at the moment.
No need for help.
However, he was also somewhat concerned about what Nuhra said to Duke. It seemed that Nuhra and Duke's family had also had friction in the trade galaxy... Chris put the matter aside for the time being and planned to find a suitable opportunity to ask Nuhra in person.
Kris sighed, drained the remaining tea in his cup, stood up, and prepared to head to the training ground. He couldn't afford to neglect his training plan, especially with the new course assignments Nuhra had assigned him, which seemed like a heavy burden...
Chris sat in the shuttle bus, heading to the training ground. His terminal rang, and he realized it was Margaret who had pulled everyone in their team into a group.
【Margaret: We can contact each other in the group later, and the administrator is set to be Chris. 】
[Qiong: Yes. Are you free to come to training today?]
【Chris: Okay, I'm on my way to the training ground.】
Margaret: Since Chris is so enthusiastic, I have to follow suit!
Besides the three of them, Ian and Lauren hadn't replied immediately. Chris turned off the terminal again, leaned back in his chair, and closed his eyes.
Before he could completely close his eyes, a scream came from beside him. The sound was not very loud, but it was loud enough for people nearby to hear. Kris was startled and opened his eyes suddenly.
A boy lay sprawled in the narrow aisle of the shuttle bus, seemingly having fallen. He was wearing a gray military uniform, and judging by the style, he must be a student from the Medical Support Department. Kris, who was closest to him, didn't think twice and, along with a few other strangers, helped the boy up.
"Thank you... Thank you." The boy's voice was as soft as a mosquito. The girl next to him asked him worriedly if he needed to go to the school hospital, but he shook his head and refused.
Chris gave up his seat to the boy, earning another round of thanks. Because Chris's perspective had changed after he stood up, he looked at the boy's lowered head and figure, and felt an inexplicable sense of familiarity, but for a moment he couldn't remember who he was.
Corris remained calm and didn't rush to speak. Instead, he carefully observed the person in front of him. The more he looked, the more convinced he was that they had indeed met before, but he had only a vague impression of them.
The electronic voice in the shuttle bus announced that they had arrived at the training ground. Chris was still worried, but it was time for him to get off the bus.
He checked to make sure he hadn't forgotten anything, then quickly got out of the car and headed for the training ground. Before Corris had gone far, he felt a fleeting gaze from behind him, each time briefly lingering on him before quickly moving away.
Chris pretended not to know and continued walking forward. After turning a corner, he hid himself and took the opportunity to observe the situation, but found that it was the boy who had just been in the car.
He looked anxious, looking around, unsure of which direction to go. As Corris looked at him, a flash of inspiration struck him, and he suddenly connected him with a figure in the corner of his memory...
He was the boy Duke had shoved in the training ground's rest area that day! Carefully comparing his figure and voice, Curris was absolutely certain it was that boy.
Chris remembered that when he met him in the car just now, he seemed to have fallen and was not feeling well. He was a little worried that he was being bullied again, so he took the initiative to walk out of the corner and asked loudly, "Classmate, do you need help?"
When the boy saw Corris, an embarrassment suddenly appeared on his face. He stepped forward hesitantly, mustered up his courage, and said in a trembling voice, "I... I came to see you."
"Me?" Kris asked doubtfully. The thin boy in front of him nodded and continued, "I'm Tim Jax, a sophomore in the medical support department. Last time, you helped me with a girl..."
"Yes, I remember." Seeing the boy in front of him almost fainting from nervousness, Chris couldn't help but soften his voice. "Is Duke bothering you again?"
When Tim heard Duke's name, the blood drained from his face, his body trembled like a sieve, his speech was not fluent, and he looked frightened.
Chris saw his reaction clearly and frowned. There was definitely something wrong!
Considering Tim was already stressed, Chris didn't want to provoke him anymore. Instead, he changed the subject and said, "Why don't we go inside the training ground and talk? Don't be afraid. The girl who chased that guy away last time and I are here too. She's very capable. We will protect you..."
After some patient persuasion from Chris, Tim finally agreed to go into the training room with him. He took out the terminal to confirm Joan's location and took Tim with him.
Tim looked very anxious and uneasy. He followed closely behind Chris, looking around and holding his hands awkwardly in front of him. He only relaxed a little when Chris took him into the private training room that Joan had booked in advance.
Chris was worried that Tim would feel uneasy in the unfamiliar environment, so he set the access control system to "always open" and did not close the door directly.
"What's this?" In the training room, Joan and Margaret were sitting on the floor talking. When they saw Chris suddenly come in with someone, they stood up and asked with concern.
"A classmate I know, he wants to stay here for a while." Chris and Joan looked at each other. Joan seemed to recognize Tim, but just nodded without responding.
Margaret was a little confused, but noticing Tim's nervousness, she gave a soothing smile and stood still without moving closer. "Tim, you're also in the Medical Support Department, right? I'm a third-year student, also from the Medical Support Department."
Tim opened and closed his mouth several times, but no words came out. Margaret didn't force him, saying, "It's okay. I'm glad you know me. If you encounter any problems in the medical logistics department, you can ask me for help."
Tim didn't say anything, just kept his head down and remained silent. Margaret knew he had heard it, so she didn't continue to communicate with him, giving him some time alone to digest it.
"...You should have a good rest. You can call me if you need anything." Seeing that Tim had locked himself up, Chris was helpless.
His eyes lingered between his partner and Tim, and he finally decided to go to training first. He hurriedly took out an energy bar from his backpack as a snack, stuffed it into Tim's palm, and said softly, "I'm going to train first. If you're hungry, you can eat something first."
Tim nodded weakly, and after confirming again and again, Chris went to meet up with Joan and the others.
Chris did not miss Margaret's hesitant expression. He turned around and looked at Tim, who was sitting in a daze in the corner of the training room with an energy bar in his hand, and shook his head at Margaret.
Joan was the first to speak, breaking the silence. "Lauren and Ian are on their way. In that case, let's just warm up."
"Ah, this...how about we wait for them to arrive and then warm up together?" Margaret felt as if the sky had fallen when she heard this, and she lost her usual calmness when she spoke.
Chris was still confused. He thought there was nothing wrong with warming up in advance. But then he thought, Margaret was the friend who knew Joan best, and even she was so scared. Warming up might not be a good idea...
Joan said nothing, but looked at Chris with her sparkling eyes. Chris caught a glimpse of Margaret trying her best to conceal her rejection gesture and replied to Joan hesitantly: "How about... let's start again after everyone arrives?"
Qiong once again showed that contemptuous look she gave to the weaklings, and mercilessly exposed the two of them: "I think you are afraid that you will run out of energy later."
"What?! Are you going to train us all until we have no strength left?!" Just as Joan finished speaking, there was a wailing sound from the door, and a muffled sound - it was Ian with a shocked face, and his schoolbag dropped on the ground in fright.
Behind him was Lauren, who had just arrived at the door and was still gasping for breath. Fortunately, Lauren did not hear their previous conversation.
Joan, the center of the storm, had a playful look in her eyes. She smiled, a bright smile, but the words she said were enough to break one's heart: "So Ian Harville has this idea... It seems I have to satisfy you."
Now Lauren heard it. Poor Lauren held her breath, her expression full of confusion about the current situation.
The author has something to say:
