Chapter 29 Emergency
By the time Chris finally finished the rest of the lasagna, the incessant rain had finally stopped.
Nuhra looked at the holographic screen floating above the dining table, confirmed the time was late, and stood up. "Well, it's late now, let's rest for a while and then go wash up."
"What about you?" Chris stood up from his chair and saw that Nuhra didn't seem to want to rest, so he took the initiative to ask about her.
"Me? I still have some things to deal with." Nuhra smiled and shrugged casually. "Overtime is commonplace in the military."
"Is it because you came to pick me up that you didn't finish your work?" Chris subconsciously thought of this and looked a little worried.
Nuhra paused, then adopted a relaxed tone, trying to reassure Chris: "What are you thinking? I may have to work overtime, but it's not like I can't even leave work."
"Oh..." Chris nodded, not quite understanding, and felt relieved.
"Rest well, Kris." Nuhra turned and continued upstairs, heading for his study. He thought for a moment, then added, "Don't worry, I'm here."
Kris was indeed relieved by Nuhra's comfort. He now knew that Nuhra's every move touched his heart, like a butterfly flapping its wings, stirring a hurricane on the other side.
What is this? Chris couldn't help but fall into deep thought, is this love, or dependence?
Chris shook his head, putting this inexplicable feeling behind him for the moment. He yawned, feeling very sleepy. Chris decided to get some sleep first. He would deal with other matters after he woke up.
He also returned to his room, took a quick shower, and then floated to his bed like a wandering soul.
His head felt a little dizzy... Kris's eyelids were heavy, and before his consciousness completely fell into darkness, his last clear thought was this...
In the middle of the night, Chris tossed and turned in bed, his brow furrowed, as if enduring unspeakable pain. He breathed with all his might, his throat burning as he inhaled and exhaled, and even his exhaled air was hot.
In addition to the difficulty in breathing, there was also the pain that followed. Chris curled up, but was unable to relieve the pain that felt like he was being crushed by a heavy object.
"Ugh..." Kris let out a muffled cry of pain, his eyelids fluttering, but he didn't wake up. He hadn't heard the call from the intelligent system, already unconscious from the sudden pain.
I don't know how long this situation lasted, but Chris's door was opened from the outside.
Hearing the noise, Corris struggled to regain some clarity and opened his eyes with difficulty... He could only see the figure opposite him walking towards him quickly.
"Well, it hurts so much... I think..." Corris stretched out his hand in the general direction of the figure, his teeth chattering as he uttered a few vague words incoherently.
His hand was immediately held by someone, who leaned over and comforted him softly, "The doctor will be here soon. What do you want to do?"
"I want to throw up..." Kris breathed heavily, and after he finished the sentence with all his strength, his gastrointestinal system, which had lost control, immediately began to churn. Kris felt that he could no longer hold it in, so he pushed the person in front of him away and vomited all over the floor.
The person he pushed away was stunned for a moment, then reacted and ordered the intelligent system to clean up for him.
After vomiting, Chris felt much better. He fell back onto the bed and his breathing became more stable.
"Do you still want to vomit?" Kris heard the figure say. His voice fell into Kris' ears, sometimes loud and sometimes soft.
Chris didn't have the energy to reply, and he shook his head slowly and slightly. Seeing this, the man stopped talking to him. He simply reached out and touched his forehead, smoothed his messy hair, and said gently, "Go get some sleep."
These words seemed to have some special magic power. As soon as the man finished speaking, Chris fell asleep again.
Nuhra stared at the pale-faced Corris lying on the bed, still unable to relax. His gaze, filled with concern, swept across the young man's face, catching a glimpse of his furrowed brows. He carefully reached out and smoothed the tension from his brows.
Not long after, the door opened again. This time, Arnold, dressed in casual clothes, and Maya, dressed in a gray uniform and carrying medical equipment, entered the room with anxious expressions.
"Admiral." The two men stopped, saluted Nuhra, and began to operate the equipment.
"I'm sorry, both of you." Nuhra stood up, tightened her bathrobe, and explained again to the two medical officers, "It was an emergency just now, and I didn't have time to explain."
"You saw him last time. He accidentally took food containing retinoids." Nuhra turned sideways, letting them see Corris lying on the bed. "But it's been a while since that incident. I'm worried that the sequelae have been delayed..."
"We can't rule it out, but further examination is needed." Maya was the attending physician for Chris's acute attack at the banquet and was quite familiar with his condition. "During his last observation period at the hospital, he didn't experience a similar condition."
Arnold didn't say anything, acting as Maya's assistant to help her do some basic examinations.
The two were well-trained and experienced. They quickly examined Chris and took some measures to relieve his symptoms.
"From the examination results, some of his physical indicators are abnormally elevated, close to the standards for sequelae of Repulse Syndrome." Mei Ya looked solemn as she carefully read the examination report again.
"Will this cause any irreversible effects on his body?" Nuhra asked in a low voice with a gloomy face.
"This is a blessing in disguise. He had already metabolized most of the residual steroids in his body. This time it was mainly caused by his strong emotions and overwork... A good rest and taking medicine on time will solve the problem, and there won't be any side effects." Mei Ya also breathed a sigh of relief and stated her conclusion.
"That's good," Nuhra said thoughtfully with a slight nod. All around him, besides the rhythmic hum of medical equipment, was the steady sound of Kris's breathing. Maya and Arnold, without receiving further instructions, quietly continued to monitor Kris's condition.
After a while, Nuhra asked Meiya: "Is the situation stable now?"
"Yes, Admiral." Meiya could still give a positive answer to this point.
"Then I won't bother you anymore. I'll just watch over the rest of the day." Nuhra smiled calmly at her two subordinates. "Thank you for your hard work tonight. I'll have HR record your overtime at quadruple time, and give you extra time off so you can rest well."
"Yes!" Maya and Arnold had been in the Seventh Army for many years and knew that Nuhra would not mistreat his subordinates. Since the commander had given the order, they should just accept the overtime pay.
Meia and Arnold moved quickly, packing up all the equipment they could take away. They left behind only a small monitor and a few emergency instruments, then quietly left Nuhra's villa.
Arnold and Maya were silent all the way. Only after they got on the hovercraft did Arnold dare to speak.
"I think this is my first time coming to the Admiral's house..." Arnold hesitated and asked Maya beside him for confirmation. Perhaps he knew the answer, but he was too shocked to believe it.
"First of all, we don't have the guts to go to the Imperial Admiral's house." Meiya looked helpless. Although she was also surprised, she knew that she should pretend to know nothing at this time. "Secondly, one of the workplace rules is not to talk about your superiors without permission."
"I'm just a little curious..." Arnold still didn't give up. "Hey, the admiral actually took care of him personally. What's the relationship between the two of them?"
"Colonel Arnold, out of concern for my colleagues, I remind you again: Do not discuss your superiors in private," Maya said with a serious expression. "Always remember to be cautious in your words and actions."
Arnold stopped talking. He first made a gesture of begging for mercy, followed by a motion of zipping his mouth.
"Let's go and enjoy the free vacation and quadruple overtime pay. This is our hush money..." Maya sighed, feeling from the bottom of her heart that she had completely forgotten everything she saw and heard that night.
On the other side, Nuhra walked around Chris's room and felt dissatisfied no matter how she looked at it. She had other ideas in her mind, but it still depended on Chris's opinion.
Anyway, after this unexpected incident, he didn't dare to leave Chris alone anymore.
When Chris fell ill, Nuhra had just finished taking a shower and was about to go to bed when she heard an emergency call from the intelligent system.
In fact, Nuhra has been working overtime in military meetings for several days in a row. Marshal Claire is about to launch a new round of anti-space pirate operations, and his own investigation into the Rui Leisi case is still chasing clues from several sources... He is really too busy to handle everything.
He indeed hadn't seen Corris's message a few days ago... When Nuhra finally got to his private terminal, he had just walked out of the military building and was about to get in the car.
"Louis, thank you for your hard work. I will drive myself home tonight." Nuhra looked down at the terminal, and when he looked up again, he directly instructed the adjutant sitting in the driving area of the car.
"...Yes, Admiral." Louis hesitated for a moment, decided to obey his superior's order, and walked out of the car.
"You've been with me for several days, go back and rest early." Nuhra reached out and patted Louis' shoulder, then stepped over him and got into the car.
Louis didn't say anything, just saluted Nuhra and watched his hovercraft go away in the rain.
While instructing Chen Ke's intelligent system to drive towards Nar's house, Nuhra quickly asked about Corris's location.
He saw that Chris was contacting him via text message, and was worried that the other party would not be able to answer the voice call, so he also sent a text message to be on the safe side.
Fortunately, Kris replied to him not long after. Nuhra felt relieved, but she didn't dare to relax completely. She rushed to the address Kris provided without stopping...
It is difficult to describe the feeling of Nuhra looking at a lonely man walking in the cold rain through the drizzle... Nuhra flashed the car lights a few times, and when he saw Chris turned his head, he didn't want to wait any longer, so he took the parachute and got out of the car.
Only when he got closer did she see clearly how badly Corris looked. Nuhra's usually calm mind was in turmoil at this moment, with only one most important thought remaining - catch him, catch him...
Catch this shaky, fragile person.

The author has something to say: After this illness, Kris will be well protected by Nuhra and will never be injured again. No matter how hard it was before, it will be better after this!
Nuhra also began to overprotect Kris... But now someone's self-perception is still: He is so pitiful, we are just fake marriage, so I have to treat him like a younger brother (self-brainwashing)
