Chapter 34 Close

Chapter 34 Close

Chris slept soundly that night, dreamless. His tightly closed eyelids trembled slightly, and soon they opened completely.

He subconsciously looked to his side, but found that there was no one on the other side of the bed. Nohra had disappeared somewhere.

Chris had slept for over ten hours since yesterday afternoon, excluding breaks for lunch and freshening. He'd slept so long that he was still feeling dizzy even after waking.

He held his forehead, frowning, and called the intelligent system to tell it the time. Fortunately, he hadn't slept enough to miss lunch.

Chris slowly climbed out of bed and staggered to the bathroom. He caught cold water in his palm and splashed it on his face, instantly sobering up.

Drops of water fell from his face one after another. He half closed his eyes, groped around with his hands, and took a towel to wipe the water off his face.

"Huh..." When Chris opened his eyes, he saw Nuhra in the mirror - he was leaning against the door, watching Chris's every move leisurely.

Kris smiled shyly, threw the towel into the laundry basket, and turned to Nuhra: "Good morning, did I sleep well last night?"

Nuhra shrugged, her voice teasing, "Very good, straight as a piece of wood."

"Then I feel relieved." After Chris finished washing up and was about to leave the bathroom, Nuhra moved sideways to make some space for him to go out.

Corris sat back on the bed, looked at Nuhra who was still standing there, and asked with concern: "Is there something wrong?"

Nuhra's deep gaze fell on Kris. Kris didn't understand what she meant. When he was about to ask, Nuhra said first, "Nothing. Let's go have breakfast."

Chris nodded, stood up and was about to leave when he suddenly remembered something and turned back to ask, "Aren't you going to eat?"

"No, I've already eaten." Nuhra smiled at him, her tone gentle. "I'll be in the study all day. If you need anything, just ask the intelligent system to call me."

Chris understood and answered casually, then walked out of the master bedroom and prepared to go to the restaurant downstairs for breakfast.

As the master bedroom door gently closed, the smile on Nuhra's face gradually faded, and a complicated expression took hold. He turned his gaze towards the only bed in the room and sighed involuntarily.

Actually, Kris's sleeping posture was really... bad. Nuhra's comment about Kris sleeping like a piece of wood was a lie she had to tell.

When he was still a young space pirate, he had slept together with his colleagues before, and he met many people who had bad sleeping postures, and even punched and kicked the people around them in their sleep... But this was the first time he met someone like Chris who would hold on tightly.

When Nuhra thought back to the scene she saw when she woke up in the morning, she still felt embarrassed. She even avoided looking towards the bed.

At that time, the morning light was just rising. Kris's sleeping face was peaceful, but his arm was domineeringly wrapped around Nuhra's waist. His body curled up, his head pressed against Nuhra's shoulder, and his soft black hair brushed Nuhra's chin, shoulders and neck...

This was the first time that Nuhra was so close to someone else, their skin touching, and he could even feel Corris's body temperature... Nuhra was a little at a loss for a moment and wanted to break free from this "embrace".

Nuhra first tried to remove the arm that Corris had wrapped around him, moving gently as if he were handling something fragile.

After finally moving his arm away, Chris's head was still resting on his shoulder. Nuhra had no choice but to slowly move his body away and let Chris's head fall gently back onto the pillow.

After all this, Nuhra was covered in a thin layer of sweat. He jumped out of bed as if escaping and headed straight for his home training room. He did a full set of daily exercises and took a cold shower before he could barely recover.

After doing all this, Nuhra tiptoed back to the master bedroom, called up the real-time body monitoring data, and after confirming that Chris was fine, she sat back on the bed, staring at Chris who was still sleeping, as if thinking about something.

Nuhra had gotten over the initial awkwardness and was now able to deal with the situation calmly. He certainly didn't blame Chris for this; the momentary shock was simply due to his own discomfort... Nuhra was more concerned about the lack of security revealed by Chris's sleeping posture.

Without Nuhra to cuddle with, Corris curled up even more, like a tiny shrimp. His previously calm expression vanished, replaced by furrowed brows and a tight pursed mouth.

The more Nuhra looked at him, the more pitiful he felt. She reached out and rubbed his brows, muttering to herself, "You're just a little brat, but you have so many troubles."

Perhaps because he felt the touch from someone else, Coris turned over and tried to hold Nuhra's arm in his arms.

Nuhra was stunned for a moment, then laughed helplessly, and stretched out her arms in time to avoid being dragged back onto the bed by someone who was unaware.

Considering Kris's situation, Nuhra gave up the idea of bringing up the sleeping position issue with Kris. He consoled himself by thinking: It's just a hug, it won't cost me a thing...

Although Nuhra thought he had figured it out, putting it into practice was still difficult. For example, his attitude towards Kris had been noticeably odd all day, and Kris, who was always very attentive, couldn't have been unaware of it.

"Nuhra, what's wrong with you?" It was the same question as last night, only this time it was asked by someone else. During dinner, Chris couldn't help but ask.

Chris's expression was uneasy, mixed with some deep-seated grievances... He didn't understand. They just slept in the same bed together, so why did Nuhra's attitude become polite and distant when he woke up the next day?

"Is it because of me?" Chris lowered his head, his fingers unconsciously fiddling with the placemat, not looking at Nuhra.

Today was definitely the day Nuhra sighed the most in his life. He sighed softly and tried to explain to Kris as reasonably as possible, "It's not because of you, Kris. I'm sorry. I was a little busy today and ignored your feelings."

When he heard Nuhra say she was busy, Kris's attention was distracted a little, and he asked worriedly, "Is it very hard? Are you going back to work at the military headquarters tomorrow?"

Seeing that this trick was effective, Nuhra continued, "Yes, your father will come to see me again tomorrow... According to our plan, you have to show up too."

"Oh, I can come to you before the appointment. This way it won't affect your work." Chris suggested considerately.

"No, you can just follow me to work tomorrow." Nuhra originally planned to do as Chris suggested, but he changed his mind the moment he was about to say it.

"Ah? I'll go with you?" Chris was surprised. He didn't expect Nuhra to make such a suggestion.

"Yes, tomorrow you just need to wear the military uniform issued by the academy." In just a few words, Nuhra made the decision.

"Okay, okay..." Although Chris was a little confused, he couldn't help but look forward to working with Nuhra.

The atmosphere between the two returned to normal because of this episode. Nuhra finally breathed a sigh of relief when she saw the smile reappear on Coris's face.

But Nuhra still underestimated how excited Chris was about following him to work in the military. When it was time to turn off the lights and lie in bed, Chris was still energetic and not sleepy at all.

Nuhra could sense the sparkling eyes of Kris behind him without looking back. He turned around and looked into Kris's eyes.

Kris had never looked Nuhra in the eye so closely before, so he couldn't help but smile shyly and explained, "I'm just a little nervous, uh, and maybe a little excited."

Nuhra didn't understand and felt a little funny. She asked, "I can understand your nervousness, but I really don't understand why you are excited?"

"Because I'm going to work with you!" Chris yelled dissatisfiedly, "This is my first time in your office..."

"I'm a little ashamed when you say that," Nuhra said with a lazy smile, "My office isn't anything special."

Just like last night, Chris reached under the quilt and patted the back of Nuhra's hand, and told Nuhra solemnly: "It doesn't matter, as long as it's your office, I'm interested."

After saying this, he felt that what he said was strange, and hesitantly added: "Well, after all, you are a famous Alliance general... No, I mean..."

Nuhra understood what he meant, and she reached out and patted the back of his hand, imitating Corris's actions. She said soothingly, "I know, and I'm grateful."

"No more talking, go to bed early, good night." Nuhra said softly, worried that Chris would not be able to get up on time tomorrow.

"Good night, Nuhra..." Kris whispered back. Nuhra's good night seemed to have some kind of magic power, and after she finished, Kris began to feel sleepy.

Another good night's sleep.

The next morning, Nuhra's biological clock, which had been conditioned for years, woke him up on time. Sure enough, he was being held by Chris, just like the day before. Nuhra calmly extricated himself from his embrace, went about his daily routine, and then instructed the intelligent system to wake Chris.

When Chris came out of the bathroom, Nuhra had already changed into her military uniform and was adjusting her cuffs in front of the mirror.

Chris quietly admired Nuhra's tall back for a while before going into the cloakroom to change into his own uniform, which was the same style except for the epaulettes.

Kris came out of the cloakroom. Nuhra was already dressed. He walked over to Kris, adjusted the briefcase for Kris, and said succinctly, "Breakfast is ready. Bring it to the office."

Corris nodded in agreement, his eyes falling on Nuhra's Adam's apple, which was half covered by the stiff collar and rolled up and down as Nuhra spoke.

Because she was going to work at the military headquarters today, Nuhra didn't need to drive herself, but was picked up by her adjutant. When they left the main gate of the villa, they saw the familiar official car parked at the door. Louis stood beside the car and saluted Nuhra.

Nuhra and Chris returned the greeting at the same time. Without much conversation, the three of them got into the car directly.

It must be said that Louis was an extremely good adjutant. He never showed the slightest hesitation or curiosity about any of his superiors' decisions, and simply performed his duties faithfully. He sat in the front seat without looking away, as if he hadn't noticed the extra person, Chris, in the car.

Traffic was heavy in the capital city that morning, but within the first block, traffic was well-ordered, and they arrived at the military headquarters on time. This was Corris's second visit, the last time being for a banquet.

The military headquarters had set up separate garages and offices for the heads of each army and the marshal, connected by a dedicated elevator. Therefore, no one was surprised by Corris's appearance.

The elevator doors opened, revealing Nuhra's spacious office. The furnishings and decor were in the military's traditional metallic style. Kris followed Nuhra closely, observing his office from start to finish.

Nuhra had Louis prepare a slightly smaller liquid metal desk in advance, which could be used and stored at any time.

After Nuhra briefly introduced how to use the tea room and lounge, Chris was placed at the small desk not far from Chris.

"Call me if you need anything." Nuhra gently squeezed Chris's shoulder and returned to his seat to concentrate on his work.

Corris opened the terminal and, referring to the notes compiled by Joan Davis, who was also from the Department of Operations, studied the courses he had missed due to leave.

At first, Chris would secretly glance at Nuhra who was working opposite him, but soon he was also immersed in his studies.

They stayed together like this, each doing their own thing, not interfering with each other... until Louis's announcement interrupted the quiet scene.

"Admiral, Lieutenant General Nar has arrived. There are still 10 minutes left before the scheduled time slot starts." Louis asked Nuhra.

Nuhra didn't reply immediately, but looked at Kris, asking for his opinion. Kris was not mentally prepared for the moment and shook his head without hesitation.

Nuhra replied to the adjutant on the other end: "Wait until the official time to invite him in."

Corris stood up anxiously, walked to Nuhra's side, and asked anxiously, "What should we do? Should we do as we agreed before?"

"Of course, or do you have any new ideas?" Nuhra also stood up. "Didn't you say you wanted to be disgusting?"

He looked much more relaxed than Chris, even with a relaxed smile on his face, and comforted Chris: "I'll take care of everything. No matter what happens, he'll know."

Corris took a deep breath, closed his eyes for a moment, and then opened them again, calming down considerably. He looked at Nuhra, and suddenly an idea struck him. He offered, "Wait a minute, can you cooperate with me throughout this?"

Nuhra raised an eyebrow and asked with interest, "How do you want me to cooperate?"

Koris leaned close to his ear and told him everything he wanted to say. Nuhra was confused for a moment, but eventually agreed.

Old Nar, who had been waiting outside for a long time, finally got permission to enter. He hurried inside, thinking about how to talk about Corris. Unexpectedly, the moment he opened the door, he saw something he would never forget:

Kris, with a forbearing expression, sat tense on the sofa, his fists clenched at his sides. Admiral Nuhra, who was supposed to be in a superior position, sat astride Kris, his uniform loose, his head always held high, buried in Kris's shoulder...

Even the experienced Lieutenant General Nar was shocked and turned away with a dark face.
