Chapter 44: Bedtime Chat Time

Chapter 44: Bedtime Chat Time

Chris was skeptical about the surprise that Nuhra said, but Nuhra just laughed it off. No matter how Chris tried to hint at it, Nuhra just wouldn't let go.

"You'll know in a few days." Before going to bed, Nuhra was reading a book imported into the holographic screen, and ignored the new round of hugging and cuddle attacks launched by Corris beside her.

Seeing that Nuhra seemed determined to keep this "surprise" a secret, Chris stopped asking questions and quietly lay down on the bed to sleep.

Nuhra didn't expect that Chris would stop so quickly. She was quite surprised and even put down the material she was reading halfway and lay down.

The intelligent system thoughtfully turned off the lights for them, and the lights in the bedroom gradually dimmed, blending in with the night outside. The two people sharing the bed knew full well that at this moment, neither of them was truly asleep.

Whenever Kris couldn't fall asleep, he would toss and turn in bed. When he turned to face Nuhra for the third time, Nuhra tentatively called out, "Kris, are you still awake?"

On the other side, Chris finally stopped tossing and turning, thinking that he had disturbed Nuhra's rest. He apologized with some guilt: "Did I disturb you and keep you awake? I'm sorry..."

Hearing this, Nuhra turned slightly to the side and said with a smile, "I just lay down. It takes time to fall asleep." He took advantage of the darkness and calmly looked at the irritated Kris. "Since you're not asleep either, why don't we chat?"

Corris was stunned for a moment, then quickly followed up with Nuhra, "Of course. What do you want to talk about?"

Nuhra said casually, "Anything is fine."

Chris seemed to be thinking about how to organize his words. After a moment, he hesitantly asked the question: "Can you continue to talk about the pirates?"

Nuhra hadn't expected Chris to be so curious about this. She finally searched her mind for long-forgotten memories. "It wasn't much, really. It was just a constant stream of fighting and killing, with occasional bouts of peace and quiet, but never a peaceful life."

"The entire universe is so big, haven't you ever thought about finding a planet to settle down on?" Corris asked doubtfully.

"Not everyone wants to settle down. For some, being a pirate is their life's pursuit," Nuhra scoffed, rarely revealing a hint of disdain. "I don't want to criticize others casually. The truth is, these people are often arrogant and want to drag everyone down with them."

"That's one of the reasons you left them, right?" Corris asked calmly.

"Yes," Nuhra admitted readily. He continued, "Among us, there was once a highly respected leader. He was my adopted father... We called him Old Hans."

"Old Hans was forced to become a pirate, but he always wanted to return to his home planet. He didn't want the people who followed him to continue doing such deadly things," Nuhra said, her voice unmistakable, "I'm the closest junior to him. He placed this wish on me."

"As Hans grew older, he delegated most of his power to me and another young man, but we had a disagreement about the future direction." Nuhra recounted the situation in a straightforward manner, making the thrilling situation sound as simple as eating and drinking water. "He didn't want to return to his home planet. He felt there was no future there and was better off continuing to be a pirate."

Coris did not interrupt, but just listened quietly, his palm gently stroking Nuhra's arm under the quilt.

"Just based on this, I didn't think it was an irreconcilable contradiction at the time." Nuhra's arm muscles gradually relaxed after sensing the warmth coming from Corris. "But later on, his true nature slowly revealed itself."

"He went crazy, burning, killing, and looting everywhere. He violated the principles that Old Hans always adhered to during his lifetime, disregarded the greater good, and nearly got us all killed!" Nuhra said in a low voice, a hint of anger still lingering after all these years. "I naively thought I could save him, but I was wrong."

"I completely broke off relations with him and left the Pirates' Group with those who were willing to go with me... During this period, I met Clarence and Amiya, and finally reached some consensus." Nuhra's story is simple, but the blood and tears contained in it are unknown.

"...That person, and your former pirate group, are they still there?" Finally, Corris asked cautiously.

"It's still there. Later, another group of pirates broke away from this group. However, this independent group of pirates did not submit to any faction and roamed around the universe... However, this group of pirates has a similar style to Old Hans. Their purpose is to rob the poor and help the rich. They will not cause chaos on the planets on the border of the empire. Therefore, the empire's stance towards them is rather subtle." Nuhra explained in great detail.

"The pirate group I used to be in is still called 'Black Mist'. Later, it separated from the Black Mist and was called 'Silver Liu'." Finally, Nuhra really talked about the pirate organization she used to be in.

"Black fog..." Chris was also a little surprised. He didn't expect there were so many secrets in it. After all, before the marriage, he had also read Nuhra's public information on the Star Network, which did not clearly explain Nuhra's true situation during his time as a space pirate.

"Actually, the emergency meeting a few days ago was somewhat related to the Black Mist gang," Nuhra then informed Corris of the contents of the emergency meeting. "Intelligence shows that they have been active on the empire's borders recently, and have even colluded with hostile forces in other empires."

"Ah! What are the military going to do?" Kris hadn't expected this to happen. His hand on Nuhra's arm tightened involuntarily. "Are you going to handle it?"

Nuhra sensed something and offered reassurance, "There's nothing serious at the moment. We're still observing the situation, but I'll probably be preparing to return to the team once my teaching duties at the academy are complete."

Kris's heart sank. Nuhra, who had been carefully observing his mood changes, leaned over and hugged Kris's waist, saying half-jokingly, "Sure enough, you can't talk about heavy things before bed... It's my fault."

Chris said nothing, but just reached out to hug Nuhra back. After a while, he slowly said, "Can you take me with you?" Although this did sound a bit unreasonable, it was indeed the strongest thought in Chris's heart.

Nuhra leaned forward and kissed Corris on the forehead, then sighed, "I want to take you with me, but I can't shrink you and put you in my pocket, can I?"

Corris thought about it and was also amused by this scene. "I think this is not bad. At least I can be with you. I don't want to stay in the capital planet."

Nuhra noticed that Kris's dependence on him was growing, which he didn't think was a good thing. Although Nuhra had some hidden desire to control Kris, he was still worried that he would have an irreversible impact on Kris's growth and even his future.

"Baby, why don't you want to stay on the capital planet?" Nuhra hid her complicated thoughts well and turned to explore the reason for Corris's idea.

Hearing this name again, Corris couldn't resist and snuggled into Nuhra's arms, acting like a spoiled brat, "Because this place isn't worth my time, I just like being your little follower, isn't that okay?"

Nuhra smiled and replied, "Of course, I welcome you. But how do I explain this to the others? Should I just say you're my brother, or should I tell the entire empire that we're a couple?"

What Chris said just now was just a rash move. He also knew that if they wanted to make their relationship public, they could only do it gradually.

Even though he knew it clearly intellectually, emotionally he couldn't bear the possibility of being separated from Nuhra for a long time. As a time traveler, Nuhra was one of the few people he could trust wholeheartedly, and she was also his first love...Chris was simply unable to contain his emotions.

"What's more, if a fight really breaks out, I will only be on the front line. What should I do if something happens to you?" Nuhra continued to persuade, appealing to his emotions and reason.

"If you say so, can't I rush to your side as soon as possible if something happens to you?" Corris was even more depressed when he heard Nuhra's words, and his voice sounded very depressed. "I don't have to go with you. I know it's not appropriate now, but I also said that I will do my best to stay by your side."

Nuhra also knew that he had said the wrong thing. After all, he should have known from what Chris said when he expressed his feelings that Chris had an obsession with staying by his side, and no one could change that, not even Nuhra.

"We're not ready to leave yet. Let's not rush. We can discuss this later, okay?" Continuing to argue wouldn't lead to any results and would only hurt each other's feelings. Nuhra decisively put the topic aside. "It's getting late now. Let's go to bed first."

"I'm not sleepy." Corris said coldly, as if he wanted to make things clear right away.

"I'm sleepy, baby," Nuhra quickly locked Corris in her arms and said softly, "Let me hold you to sleep."

Chris's anger came and went quickly, especially when Nuhra tried to lighten the mood. He didn't struggle much and was hugged tightly by Nuhra. No one continued to speak.

A long time passed like this, and Nuhra, who closed his eyes and pretended to be asleep, heard Chris call his name in a low voice, probably to confirm whether Nuhra was asleep.

Nuhra pretended to be asleep very well and fooled Chris, then waited for Chris's next move.

There was no movement from Chris's side. Just when Nuhra was about to doubt whether she had heard it wrong, Chris finally responded.

He kissed the corner of Nuhra's lips lightly, and said in a voice as soft as a mosquito: "I... I shouldn't be angry, don't hate me." After that, he kissed Nuhra again, this time on her lips.

Nuhra seemed to be fast asleep, but in fact he was always paying attention to every move of Kris. He did not intend to let Kris find out that he was still awake. After all, Kris was very sensitive and he was afraid that Kris would get angry.

As for these two unexpected kisses and Chris's apology, Nuhra should just keep it deep in her heart... or find a reason to kiss Chris tomorrow?

Nuhra thought this was a good suggestion.
