Chapter 59: Thunderbolt

Chapter 59: Thunderbolt

Hearing this, Chris's mood plummeted and he stammered, "Hmm... I understand." He looked so sad that even Nuhra was a little surprised and kept an eye on his situation without making a sound.

However, the more important thing at the moment was that they had to rush to the hospital as soon as possible to confirm Tim Jax's condition. The two of them got into the car in silence, one in front and one behind, and headed to the hospital address provided by Samantha.

Chris didn't know what to say, nor did he dare to speak, much less did he want to. He regretted it. If he had told Nuhra from the beginning, the problem might have been nipped in the bud, and they wouldn't have this crisis of trust.

Although Nuhra seemed calmer than Corris, he was actually in a bad mood as well. However, he was used to putting more important things above his personal feelings and would not vent his anger directly to the other party - even though he was already furious.

It would be a lie to say she wasn't disappointed. That day in the car, Nuhra had a vague feeling that Chris seemed to be worried about something, so she tentatively told him her bottom line... Unexpectedly, after learning about it, Chris chose to continue concealing the truth and deceiving him until something happened to Tim Jax. When he had nothing left to hide, he chose to tell the truth.

Beyond disappointment, he felt even more helpless and heartbroken. He and Chris had been intimate over half an hour ago, kissing and hugging each other... Nuhra had thought he'd done enough to convince Chris to let go of his feelings and trust him more. But today's events had been a slap in the face, shattering his presumptuous thinking.

He really didn't expect that Chris was so tight-lipped that he didn't reveal anything. He just got along with Nuhra as usual these days... Oh, this kid kissed and nibbled him, bit him twice, and he even used his mouth to satisfy some of his needs today... Oh my God, Nuhra was almost laughing at himself. He was too willing to trust Chris, which led to this day.

Nuhra's expression changed unpredictably in the darkness, and Chris beside her was really frightened. He was sad, regretful, and scared because of the last words Nuhra said.

Nuhra said they needed to "talk"... What was it about? Was it about giving up on him? Or was it about giving him a good scolding? Kris really hoped it was the latter.

Corris has come to his senses now. He was too anxious to prove himself in front of everyone, especially Nuhra, and ignored the objective gap between him and Nuhra... but he also overestimated his abilities.

He tried not to be too dependent on Nuhra, but because of his reckless behavior, he hurt Nuhra's heart.

It was already very late and there were not many cars on the road. The street lights and the neon lights of the tall buildings on the roadside alternately reflected on Nuhra's expressionless face. Chris was still secretly looking at him, but when he saw that Nuhra did not react, he gradually turned into staring at him.

In the past, as soon as Chris's eyes rested on Nuhra, Nuhra would have started chatting with Chris gently with his signature teasing words... Now everything has been messed up by him.

Nuhra had obviously felt the unobstructed gaze from Corris, but he did not react at all and continued to look at the scenery outside the window.

Chris's eyes burned, and he felt the urge to cry. He quickly looked away and forced himself to hold back the tears. He had no reason to cry in front of Nuhra. He was the one who was wrong... and he and Nuhra had important things to do right now, so he couldn't show any wrong emotions.

"Change your cadet brochure and wear this." Not far from their destination, the First Military Hospital, Nuhra uttered her first words after boarding the bus, without any emotion. "Wear this badge on your left chest, too."

Nuhra found two things in the safe in the car and handed them directly to Chris. The dome light in the car, which had not been on all the way, finally turned on.

Nuhra fell silent again, turning on the light only to make it easier for Chris to put on his epaulettes and badge. He took a quick look and saw that the epaulettes Nuhra had given him were the rank insignia of lieutenant colonel; the badge was the distinctive insignia of the Seventh Army, depicting a crimson flagship.

"When we get to the hospital, you pretend to be my assistant and follow me, and we'll act accordingly." Nuhra said in a public manner, glancing at Chris to make sure he had put on the two badges, and then looked forward as if nothing had happened.

Chris didn't say anything and did what Nuhra asked him to do. After he finished, he stared at Nuhra's profile, but Nuhra remained unmoved.

The car slowly drove into the parking lot of the First Military Hospital of the Capital Star. Once it came to a complete stop, Chris quickly stepped into the role of assistant without Nuhra's reminder. He was about to get out of the car to open the door for Nuhra, but Nuhra grabbed him and said, "Put on this mask too, so others won't see your face."

This is a half-face protective mask made by Jinzhu. It is made of a special metal material that can fit the face shapes of different people. At the same time, it is extremely hard and can withstand all kinds of damage.

Kris paused, then obediently put the mask on his face, and Nuhra let go of him. Kris got out of the car and opened the door for Nuhra.

Nuhra raised his eyebrows and walked forward silently, while Coris followed him one body length behind, always keeping a suitable distance.

They entered the special elevator for the intensive care floor one after another. The bright and dazzling white light shone on their heads, but Chris was completely unaware.

Corris suppressed his restless heart, took a deep breath, mobilized his calm thinking ability, and prepared to deal with any situation that might arise next.

"Ding!" They arrived at their new floor. Nuhra was the first to exit the elevator, followed closely by Chris. The elevator opened onto a long corridor, where the lighting was far more glaring than inside the elevator. Because of this, everyone's every move could be clearly seen.

There was a soldier standing every three steps on both sides of the corridor. Their uniforms were different from those of the common Imperial Army. They were single-breasted, high-collared, slim-fitting military uniforms in black and gray. There were no epaulettes to indicate their rank, and only the collar was distinguished according to the level of their position - this was the uniform of the Royal Guard.

At the end of the corridor, Captain Samantha, an old acquaintance, sat in a waiting chair in front of the operating room door, her eyes closed as if resting. She was the only one sitting there; the other Vincent Military Academy leaders who had accompanied Tim to the hospital had already tactfully left.

"Finally here?" Samantha had very sensitive ears. When they were still quite far away, she could tell who the person was by the sound of their footsteps.

The red-haired female officer looked up and saw Nuhra, who looked normal but obviously unhappy, and Corris, who was following carefully behind her, wearing the Seventh Army badge strangely, with even the rank on his shoulder changed, and wearing a mask.

Captain Samantha, who was always straightforward, chose to keep silent for a rare occasion. She could only pretend that she hadn't noticed anything and pointed at the closed door of the operating room. "The situation is not optimistic. The preliminary diagnosis is that it is an overdose of Relevant."

"He's been going to the black market a lot recently. Have you found out anything?" Nuhra also sat down in front of the waiting chair, with a seat between her and Samantha. Chris found a suitable position to stand aside.

"A strong dragon cannot defeat a local snake. People in the black market are very united. It's impossible to get in without some connections." Samantha shrugged, looking indifferent, as if no matter what happened, it was not a big deal.

"I always thought you were the one with the most connections in the capital star." Nuhra turned her head and looked at Samantha, and said meaningfully.

"No matter how many ways I have, there's nothing I can do. People have been keeping an eye on us and are very wary of us." Samantha sneered, obviously well aware of the substantial difficulties they encountered in the investigation. "Too many people are paying attention to us. It's difficult for us to do anything. It's really troublesome..." she complained.

Nuhra shook her head, lost in thought. Korris, standing beside her, remained silent, staring straight ahead, doing his best to minimize his presence.

"Hey, what are you guys doing so late at night?" Samantha first glanced at Chris who was standing next to Nuhra, then turned back to carefully study Nuhra's facial expression. "Did you have a fight?"

"It's a family matter, I have no comment." Nuhra smiled politely and refused Samantha's further inquiries.

"Oh..." Samantha said, her face suddenly enlightened. She didn't say anything more, but kindly reminded him, "The person inside won't wake up for a while, so there's no need to wait here. Go back and rest early. I have people guarding this place."

"Alright." Nuhra thought about it carefully and readily accepted Samantha's suggestion. "Then let's go first and not disturb the guards' work here."

Samantha, out of sight and out of mind, waved her hand to signal them to leave quickly and not to act out this inexplicable, sad drama of you and me being silent.

Nuhra led Chris into the elevator without looking back, and then took the elevator directly back to the parking lot.

Chris hurriedly quickened his pace, took a step forward and seized the opportunity to unlock the car door for Nuhra. Nuhra glanced at him, got in the car directly, and signaled Chris to follow suit with her eyes.

"Are we going home now?" Chris asked in a low voice, afraid of disturbing anything.

"Go around a few times and then go back to the hospital to find someone." Nuhra explained calmly, just looking at the display screen in front of him and setting the driving route on the intelligent system.

"Yeah," Kris quickly responded. It was a good thing that Nuhra was willing to speak now, Kris consoled himself.

After the route was set, the hovercraft slowly drove away from the hospital. According to the established plan, it randomly circled around the hospital for about twenty minutes, then circled back and entered the hospital from another commonly used entrance. The vehicle stopped and turned off the engine.

Chris got out of the car with great tact and continued to play the role of assistant. The two of them entered the hospital elevator. Nuhra expertly selected the floor. Chris took a look and didn't remember much, even though the original owner was a frequent visitor to the First Military Hospital.

The elevator took them to the corresponding floor. Without checking the signs, Nuhra walked to an office with ease and opened the door directly.

The long-haired doctor who was napping on his desk was startled and immediately started cursing. It wasn't until he saw who was coming that he shut up like a quail with its neck strangled, and put on a servile face: "Hey, rare guest, Boss, what's going on? Are you impotent or have you finally developed Alzheimer's?"

When Chris saw the doctor's appearance for the first time, he mistakenly thought he was a cool and handsome man. However, as soon as he opened his mouth, the atmosphere created by his appearance and figure disappeared.

"You're a rare visitor, Dr. Lowe," Nuhra replied with a forced smile. "Finally willing to work? Too late. I've already submitted your resignation to the military."

"Tsk tsk tsk, the atmosphere is so tense, who provoked you?" The man called Lovey was not afraid of Nuhra's threat at all, and was amazed at Nuhra's rare displeasure.

Because Nuhra didn't say anything, he had the chance to look behind Nuhra and found that the person following Nuhra was a different person, not the usual Louis.

"Nuhra, how dare you replace Louis!" Lovi shouted in anger, staring at Corris sternly, "Who is this person, and why did he replace my lovely little Louis?!"

Nuhra's mouth twitched, and the veins on her forehead throbbed uncontrollably. She gritted her teeth and said, "First, this man is my husband. Please show some respect. Second, Louis hasn't resigned. This is his legal break. Finally, you keep saying it, but why haven't you dared to confess your feelings to Louis?"

Hearing Nuhra's words, Luo Wei deliberately ignored the last part, and changed his previous hostility to a warm and friendly attitude: "I'm sorry, it turns out to be my sister-in-law, how rude... I'm Luo Wei, it's our first meeting, please take care of me."

Thanks to the mask given by Nuhra, which successfully hid Corris's uncontrolled expression, he quickly cleared his throat and responded politely: "Hello, I am Corrisnar, nice to meet you."

"To cut a long story short, give him a physical exam to see if he has any traces of drugs like Renexid," Nuhra ruthlessly interrupted the two people's pleasantries. "Also, check their medical records for me."

Luo Wei rolled his eyes fiercely after hearing this: "I called you boss out of respect, and you actually ordered me around?"

"I'll give Louis two days off, when you're free." Nuhra had already prepared a plan, and once it was presented, Lowe stopped complaining and said with a fake smile, "Oh! You really are my boss. I've never met a boss as good as you... I'm really touched."

"Come on, Cris, lie down in the treatment cabin and I'll give you a quick check-up." Lovi complimented Nuhra and smoothly switched to work mode, guiding Cris to lie down in the integrated medical cabin.

"It will probably take ten to fifteen minutes. You can close your eyes and rest for a while. I'll call you when I'm ready." Lovi smiled gently at Corris and closed the door of the medical cabin.

He set the corresponding parameters and the medical cabin started operating. After Lovi confirmed that everything was normal, he turned back to his desk and sat down, asking Nuhra: "Who do you want to check? Tell me quickly."

Nuhra reported Lauren and Tim's names, and soon their data appeared on the screen. Lauren's medical records were normal, but Tim's were full of shocking records.

"External injuries, internal injuries... there's really everything. What has this child been through?" Lovi glanced through Tim's records, and his delicate long eyebrows frowned involuntarily.

"I don't know. The story behind him is very complicated." Nuhra read it over and over again, memorizing the general content in her mind.

"Well, that doesn't sound like something I can control." Luo Wei wisely stopped caring and asked about something else. "By the way, why did you suddenly find someone so young to marry? Did you coerce or bribe her into coming here?"

When Koris was mentioned, Nuhra's expression turned serious. He didn't want to talk about this topic anymore, especially in the current situation. "I like him, and he... likes me too, but things between us are not what I imagined."

"What's different?" Lowe was really curious. It sounded like there was something fishy going on, so he asked tentatively.

"...I know Chris is very insecure, so I am trying my best to do the best I can. I also told him that he can trust me and rely on me, but he can't lie to me." Nuhra glanced at Chris who was lying steadily in the medical cabin. He knew that no sound outside could be heard in the cabin, so he confided in Lovey about his emotional problems that he couldn't solve for the time being. Maybe he could get some inspiration?

"But he didn't do it and kept lying to me. Today I found out that he was planning to carry me to a dangerous place. We had a conflict today because of this." Nuhra rubbed his swollen forehead and told the whole story.

"No wonder, I was wondering why the atmosphere was weird when you two came in... You looked like you were in a bad mood; and he, on the other hand, was completely focused on you, staring at you intently..." Lovey suddenly realized. He had wanted to tease Nuhra, but considering that he had approved a vacation for Louis, he gave up the idea.

Lovi thought for a moment and asked Nuhra for confirmation: "First, when you told him that you didn't like deception, was your attitude too tough or intimidating? Don't judge by your own standards, but by the situation of ordinary people."

Nuhra thought carefully about the situation and finally had to admit: "Maybe, to others, it might sound like a threat."

Luo Wei sighed and continued to ask: "Is he hiding anything else?"

"No?" Nuhra quickly reviewed the moments they had spent together so far. Most of the time, Chris told Nuhra everything in full and clearly.

"Well, you might not like what I'm going to say next," Lovi suddenly leaned back, pressing against the back of his office chair. "Actually, I think you're just too idealistic about a relationship, Nuhra."

"No one goes their whole life without lying. Ask yourself, would you choose to hide something important from Chris?" Lovi advised earnestly. "Perhaps Chris is the same? And judging by his expression, he must be very afraid of hurting you. He must have always remembered your threat to deceive, uh, him."

"Sometimes you shouldn't be too demanding on your lover, and try to control your inner desire for control." Lovi said finally, "Since you already know that he is insecure, you should be more patient with him." After listening to this, Nuhra seemed to be thinking about something.

"Okay, his physical examination is almost done. Let me take a look at his various indicators... Well, there is no problem." Lovi didn't say anything more, letting Nuhra figure it out himself, and he went to see Chris's physical examination results first.

"Well... I'm glad there's no problem." Nuhra was busy all night and felt a little relieved. He was worried that Chris would also be affected by Tim and unknowingly be exposed to the emergency situation before Rui Leisi appeared again.

"Thank you for tonight, Lovey." Nuhra sincerely thanked her friend whom she was only half acquainted with.

"No need to say too much sentimental words, just remember to give Louis a holiday... I also want to ask him out to play." Lovey muttered a few words.

"I wish you success soon." Nuhra gave Lovey a rare and sincere blessing.

Hearing this, Lovi's face lit up with joy. He loved hearing such nice words and even acted much friendlier towards Nuhra. "You can leave after we're done. I'll cover up your browsing history in the database for you."

"Yeah." Nuhra nodded, and had nothing else to say.

Lovi glanced at the time and saw that Chris's examination was almost over, so he walked to the medical cabin and waited.

Not long after, a mechanical sound of "beep" was heard, and the hatch slowly opened. With the help of Lovey, Chris slowly sat up.

"Chris, are you okay? Are you feeling well?" Lovi asked as usual. After Chris shook his head in denial, he called out to Nuhra with relief, "A family member, come and help me."

Corris lowered his head slightly and looked at the ground. Nuhra's military boots were slowly approaching from a distance. He raised his head, but still didn't dare to look at Nuhra, his eyes darting around.

Nuhra silently extended her hand, and Chris took it without hesitation. Then he was carefully helped down from the medical cabin by Nuhra. Lovi, who was standing by, felt so sad that he got goosebumps all over his body.

"It's almost time to go, you two. Let me, a poor doctor, have some rest." Lowe sat back in his seat and said unhappily.

"Sorry to bother you." Kris felt guilty when he heard what Lovi said. He sincerely thanked Lovi, "Thank you so much for tonight."

Lowe was very pleased with Nuhra's attitude and said with a smile: "It's okay, I was just joking, it's not a big deal."

Before Corris could say anything more, Nuhra, who was already standing at the office door, called out, "Let's go."

When Chris heard this, he stopped talking and followed Nuhra out the door. Lovey's office returned to the quietness it had been before they arrived.

After being comforted by Lovi, Nuhra actually figured things out a bit, but he still needed time to adjust his mindset and think about how he and Chris should get along in the future... But in Chris's eyes, Nuhra's attitude was still cold, which made it difficult for him to accept, but he had no choice but to accept it.

After leaving the hospital, Kris and Nuhra were finally able to go home. On the way, no one spoke in the car until they parked in the garage at home, relaxed, and walked into the villa.

Walking up the stairs silently and returning to the bedroom door, Nuhra suddenly stopped, as if to say something insignificant, and turned to Chris behind her and said -

"I'm going to sleep in the study these days. You can rest well in the bedroom. If you have any questions, you can always come to me."

The author has something to say: The relationship between Lovi and Louis will not be expanded in the main text, but it will probably be discussed in the sequel [shy]
