Chapter 65: Quiet Flower Room
In Nuhra's company, Kris enjoyed a peaceful brunch. A robotic arm cleared the table for them, and Kris led Nuhra to the greenhouse. "Brother, look, this is the arrangement I prepared in advance."
Chris chattered on and on about his arrangements to Nuhra, from the layout of the greenhouse to the tea party meals... Nuhra smiled as she watched Chris's every move intently, and from time to time she asked Chris a few questions about the tea party arrangements.
After wandering aimlessly around the villa, Chris's terminal reminded him that it was almost time for his appointment with his friends. He immediately perked up and instructed Nuhra to wait in the greenhouse.
"Yes, sir." Nuhra saluted Chris solemnly, kissed Chris on the cheek in a flash, and went back to the greenhouse with his hands behind his back to wait for orders.
Chris was caught off guard by the kiss and blinked in confusion. He watched Nuhra disappear around the corner as he turned and walked in the opposite direction. He was going back to the living room to greet his friends at the villa's entrance.
Just as Chris returned to the living room to wait, the doorbell rang. He quickly checked the security camera at the gate. There was only one car parked in front of the door... At the same time, a new message popped up on his terminal:
[Margaret: Open the door! We're here!]
On the surveillance camera, a hand reached out of the car window and waved vigorously in the direction of the camera. Kris instinctively suppressed all his tension and summoned his best self, his emotions calming down more than he had expected.
Under the guidance of the smart butler, they drove the car into the villa and parked it in the designated location. Chris took the initiative to go out and greet Margaret and her group.
"Although I haven't seen you for only a day or two, I really miss you a little bit." Ian was a restless person. Before the car stopped, he shouted that he wanted to get out, but was suppressed by Joan... But he never held a grudge. After getting out of the car, he had forgotten what happened just now and expressed his feelings to Chris with a smile, "Here, a gift for you." Ian handed over an electronic device stored in a transparent protective cover with both hands.
Chris had already told his friends that he didn't want to accept gifts, but they still prepared some small gifts. He didn't accept them immediately, choosing to decline them: "Hey, hey, we agreed not to accept gifts!"
"Oh, it's just a little gadget," Kris said displeasedly, forcing the thing into his hands. "I made it myself. At most, it's just a virtual humanoid for your smart butler after connecting it to the internet. Just take it!"
"This..." Chris hesitated, but Ian immediately pushed the object into his clenched palm. Chris had no choice but to accept it. "Thank you very much, Ian."
Margaret, who had witnessed the entire process, walked forward with a smile and gracefully handed over an exquisitely wrapped gift box. "Chris, since you've accepted it from Ian, you can't refuse us again... This is a small token of my appreciation."
Margaret had said so much, and Chris had no way of refusing her. He gladly accepted the gift from her and thanked her sincerely, "Thank you, Margaret."
Joan stood at the end of the line, silently surveying her surroundings. Lauren, looking sheepish, held a food box in both hands. "These are cookies I baked myself... I'm so glad you invited me to your home, Chris."
Chris smiled gently at Lauren, took the lunch box and said to everyone happily: "We are in for a treat, we can taste Lauren's profits!" Lauren was so shy when Chris praised her that her cheeks turned red.
Now only Joan hadn't given her a gift, but Chris had no intention of accepting any. Seeing this, he smoothly changed the subject: "Come on, I'll take you inside..."
"Come on." Before Chris finished speaking, Joan, who had been silent all the time, finally broke the silence and threw an unidentified object in the direction of Chris. Before Chris's brain could react, his hand had subconsciously reached out to catch it.
This was a brand new tactical strap, made of the finest elastic leather, with bursts of cold light on its surface... This gift was very much in line with Joan's personality, so Chris naturally accepted it together with the other gifts, and told the smart butler to keep them well, and when he had time later, he would open them and feel his friends' thoughts one by one; as for Lauren's cookies, he specifically reminded the smart butler to take them to the greenhouse.
The housekeeping robot took the gifts away, and the gift-giving and greetings finally came to an end. Chris had the time to turn around and talk to his friends and lead them into the villa.
"Wow, you live here alone?" Ian couldn't contain his curiosity as he entered the house, looking around in amazement. Lauren, who was following behind him, was also very interested in Chris's villa, but he didn't dare to look openly.
After entering the house, Margaret and Joan only took a quick look around the living room and then turned their attention back to Chris who was leading the way in the aisle.
Ian's careless question made Chris, who thought he had calmed down, nervous again. He decided to proceed step by step and give everyone a heads-up from now on so that they could be mentally prepared in advance: "Actually, my family and I live here."
"Ah, will we disturb them?" Lauren, who had no idea what she would encounter in more than half an hour, asked innocently.
"Um... no, I've already told him that," Chris said softly, his eyes slightly lowered. He acted so normal that even Margaret and Joan, who were always very observant, didn't see what Chris was going to do next.
Chris took them around the living room and kitchen twice, then left the room and set foot on the path to the garden. The greenhouse at the end was barely visible under the shade of the trees.
Everyone was in high spirits along the way, marveling at the fragrant and colorful exotic flowers and plants. Chris also fulfilled his responsibility as a tour guide, patiently explaining to his friends... In fact, he didn't quite understand these words, and he had to study them urgently yesterday. Now that he had successfully gotten away with it, his efforts were finally not in vain.
No matter how slowed down the pace of Kris and his companions, the greenhouse always stood there. The further they walked, the closer they were to the greenhouse, and Kris's palms began to sweat.
He had no idea what was happening in the greenhouse, but Kris sincerely hoped the situation wouldn't be too awkward... Before entering the greenhouse, Kris took a deep breath, turned around, and forced a smile. "Let's rest here for a while. I've prepared some refreshments."
"Wow, that's great. I'm a little hungry." When Ian heard that there was food inside, he wanted to rush in and chow down on it.
"Wait, let me finish what I'm saying..." Chris quickly grabbed Ian, who was about to step into the transparent greenhouse. "Uh, here's the thing, my family might be in there... If you see us in the greenhouse, don't be nervous."
Chris was vague in his words, but the main idea he conveyed was understandable. In short, he told Ian and his group not to be afraid of anything they would see... Margaret and Joan looked at each other and nodded cautiously.
After receiving responses from everyone, Chris was the first to step into the open main door of the greenhouse. The first thing that caught his eye was flowers that were even more beautiful than those outside. They were blooming brilliantly under the strict control of temperature and humidity.
Surrounded by hundreds of flowers, the aristocratic-style viewing pavilion built of pure white stone in the center of the greenhouse is even more eye-catching... Looking closely, there seems to be a human figure in the pavilion, looming in it.
Most people at the scene held their breath, but their moods varied. Some were simply nervous, but some were also a little confused amidst their nervousness, simply because the figure of that person seemed a little familiar, as if he was someone they all knew.
Without any explanation, Corris walked straight towards the viewing pavilion. His companions behind him didn't understand why, but they had to follow him and finally stopped in front of the pavilion.
Under the gaze of the crowd, the people in the pavilion also stood up and walked out to greet them. Then, it happened just like that—Imperial General Nuhra, Commander-in-Chief of the Seventh Army and Visiting Professor of Vincent Military Academy, appeared in Krisnar's home! Except for Kris and Nuhra, everyone else's face was filled with a look of horror, as if they had seen a ghost.
"This, this, this...!" Ian, who is usually eloquent, couldn't speak clearly. Lauren, who had a slightly poor psychological endurance, was trembling with legs and had to hold on to Ian's shoulders to barely stand firm.
Margaret, who prided herself on being knowledgeable, was at a loss at this moment. She couldn't connect Nuhra with their team member Chris... Was there any connection between these two people?
She searched her memory desperately, and a light bulb went off in her head. She recalled the last emergency situation when she had to deal with the student union search. Nuhra was also there at that time... Could it be that Nuhra's appearance was actually caused by Corris?
Margaret had doubted how such a coincidence could exist, but the facts before her were the best evidence... It turned out that everything was happening in the dark and had an impact on the current situation.
As the person who most closely conforms to the standard of "not showing emotions on one's face" among all people, Joan's usually cold and solemn face also showed a bit of shock, but she quickly returned to normal, and only her lowered brows faintly revealed her equally turbulent emotions.
Kris was embarrassed. He had anticipated everyone's possible reactions, but when it actually happened, Kris felt that his guess was quite optimistic... He walked over to Nuhra, stood shoulder to shoulder with Nuhra, and explained hesitantly, "Well, Nuhra... Admiral and I are related."
Please forgive him for not daring to say the words "legal partner". Just admitting that he has a close relationship with Nuhra has exhausted all his courage at this stage.
Compared to the bewildered young people in front of her, Nuhra remained unmoved. With a calm demeanor, she announced a more difficult fact to everyone in a friendly yet polite tone: "Yes, we are actually a legal couple recognized by the imperial law."
After these words were spoken, Chris's friends no longer dared to step into the observation deck.
