Chapter 20 Dinner

Chapter 20 Dinner

General Nuhra, a well-known workaholic in the Seventh Army, actually left work on time, for two consecutive days!

This explosive news quickly spread in the officers' club headed by Samantha. Nohra's colleagues who were familiar with him talked about it with relish, but Nohra himself didn't care about it and left the office directly after work.

Compared to the various speculations, the reason why Nuhra returned home early was very simple - he just wanted to go back and have dinner with Chris.

Maybe even Nuhra himself didn't realize that he had a strange expectation for the ordinary daily life of "going home"... As for whether he was looking forward to the dinner made by Chris, or the possible flustered look of Chris, it was unknown.

By the time Nuhra reached the house, it was nearly dark. He walked straight inside and found the hall empty. From the dining room, there were occasional electronic keystrokes, likely from Chris trying to cook in the cooking machine.

The closer they got to the restaurant, the more they smelled of food. Nuhra tiptoed past the dining table and walked deeper into the kitchen.

As expected, Chris seemed to lack a certain understanding with all kinds of machinery. The latest cooking machine in Nuhra's home became a bulky piece of iron in his hands.

"Huh? I clearly pressed this button?" Chris poked at the smooth cooking machine button page with his hand, holding an empty plate in his hand, as if he had just put the ingredients in and encountered operational difficulties.

Nuhra didn't take off his uniform, and his leather boots made no sound as they walked on the wooden floor. He walked a short distance behind Chris, who had sensed something and turned around to greet him, looking a little embarrassed.

"Um... good evening, Nuhra." Kris even forgot to put down the plate in his hand and said embarrassedly: "As you can see, I'm facing some minor problems now."

Nuhra took off his military jacket, leaving only the top two buttons undone. He walked to the sink next to Kris, washed his hands briefly, and took the empty plate from Kris.

"I'm happy to help you," Nuhra seemed to accept it well and quickly took on the role of cooking assistant, standing beside Corris, looking like she was ready to take orders.

Chris's slightly tense expression relaxed. He had been a little worried that Nuhra would be unhappy with him because of this, but it seemed he was overthinking it.

"I wanted to make a cream stew, but after adding the ingredients, the machine became like this." Chris said this with some indignation. He honestly followed the instructions of the intelligent system to complete the steps, so why didn't it work?

Nuhra smiled gently. He was about the same height as Corris, and the two tall adult men standing in front of the cooking machine were a little crowded, but no one took the initiative to move away.

Nuhra leaned over to check the machine's status. He first opened the area where the ingredients were placed. As soon as the protective cover opened, the vegetables and meat that had been tightly squeezed into the small space began to rush out.

The problem was obvious. Nuhra stood up straight, leaned sideways on the kitchen counter, and waited patiently for Corris's explanation.

Kris's face was filled with regret and confusion. He secretly glanced at Nuhra beside him and said weakly, "If I said I don't know how to use this cooking machine, would you believe me?"

"I understand." Nuhra nodded understandingly and kindly offered a solution. "You can just let the intelligent system arrange it for you."

After hearing this, Corris sighed in frustration, and his handsome eyebrows drooped. "Okay, you're right... I just want to try to do something."

Nuhra stared intently at the young man in front of her, her tone so gentle it almost made all her military colleagues break out in a cold sweat. "I don't blame you, Kris... Hold your head up."

"Although the amount of this stew is a bit excessive," Nuhra said somewhat unconscionably, "it can provide us with several meals without any waste."

After hearing Nuhra's encouraging words, Kris felt less dejected, but his tone was still uncertain. "Then... shall we have cream stew tonight?"

"Of course, if there is not enough time, let the intelligent system cook the remaining dishes." Nuhra didn't care about it. For him, eating was mostly just to meet survival needs or social needs.

"Okay!" After hearing what Nuhra said, Chris's enthusiasm was mostly restored. And with someone who was good at housework to help him, the cooking speed was naturally much faster.

By the time the robotic arm placed the steaming stew on the dining table, Coris and Nuhra also sat down at the table.

After a day of close interaction, Chris's attitude towards Nuhra has become much calmer, and he finally feels more confident when speaking to Nuhra.

Warm lights gently enveloped the restaurant, creating a pleasant and comfortable atmosphere. Kris, starving, exchanged a brief greeting with Nuhra before tucking into his food with gusto, evidently starving.

Nuhra always maintains an elegant manner when eating. People who don’t know him might think he is enjoying some high-end food, but in fact it is just the simplest home-cooked meal.

"Thank you for your hard work in preparing dinner." Nuhra said with a smile. He ate very quickly and ate very little. He stopped eating soon and just looked intently at Corris opposite him.

"It wasn't that hard. It was actually cooked by a cooking machine... Besides, if you hadn't returned in time, we might not have been able to have dinner tonight." Kris was already starting to feel full. Hearing Nuhra's words, he couldn't help but put down his cutlery and responded sheepishly.

"It seems that he is thanking us for our tacit cooperation." Nuhra leaned forward slightly, and the smile on his face became more genuine.

Chris knew what he was talking about, was silent for a moment, and then started laughing too.

After finishing the meal, the two moved to the living room and handed the leftovers on the table to the smart butler to deal with.

Chris ate too much and only realized after leaving the restaurant that he seemed a little overwhelmed. He wanted to walk around the living room for a while, but was afraid of embarrassment.

Unexpectedly, Nuhra walked to the door and took the initiative to invite Chris: "Do you want to take a walk in the garden?"

Chris nodded hurriedly as if he had been pardoned, and followed Nuhra out of the house.

They walked out of the yard and stepped on the wet ground. The cloudless sky was dotted with stars. It was a perfect night.

Nuhra walked a little faster and had already descended the stairs, while Coris was still standing at the top. He looked up at the night sky and exclaimed with emotion, "How wonderful... How beautiful."

Nuhra looked in the direction of the voice, but said nothing. Kris calmed down a bit, walked over to Nuhra, and said with a smile, "Let's go, Nuhra."

He smiled softly, and it looked gentle under the dim garden light, melting his cold and handsome features... Nuhra looked deeply at the young man in front of her, her heartstrings beating slightly, but she didn't show it on her face.

Nuhra was still standing there, facing Chris's confused eyes, he walked to his side very naturally, and the two of them walked side by side, chatting casually, and in between, Nuhra introduced the various green plants in his garden in a deep voice.

"It must be comfortable to live here." Chris looked around with interest and couldn't help but sigh at Nuhra's wealth again.

"Then you are also a resident here now." Nuhra didn't expect him to say it so directly, and laughed.

"This is different," Corris leaned over and looked at the blooming flowers in front of him, curling his lips and smiling, "I won't live here forever..." There was a hint of melancholy in his words. He reached out to cover the cloud silver stone ring that fell with his movement.

Nuhra's smile faded slightly, realizing what Corris meant. Even though they were so close, it couldn't conceal the true nature of their marriage; it was only a temporary union, bound by a conspiracy.

"Of course, it would be great if you are willing to give me a house like this when we divorce." Chris may have realized that it was difficult to respond to what he said, so he added a joke, trying to cover up his previous slip of the tongue.

"Okay, I promise you," Nuhra agreed readily. "It's stated in the agreement that you will get the compensation you deserve."

Hearing his words, Corris involuntarily stood up straight and met Nuhra's gaze. He saw the calm and serious look in her eyes, but then, as if dazzled, he lowered his head and mumbled a response.

The two of them walked in the garden for nearly half an hour. Chris had regained his strength. Thinking that Nuhra might have to go to work tomorrow, he took the initiative to say, "You've been busy for so long today. You should go back and rest early."

Nuhra had no objection to this and followed Chris's lead. On the way back, Nuhra asked, "Are you going back to Vincent tomorrow?"

Speaking of returning to school, Chris suddenly seemed downcast again. This short day and night at Nuhra's house had been so relaxing. He didn't have to think too much, didn't have to worry about anything... But Chris knew that unhappiness was the norm.

"Yes..." He sighed and replied honestly.

Nuhra's observation of Chris is very meticulous. Chris's expression looks normal, but Nuhra can see his true mood and give the most effective response.

"Tomorrow night, why don't you have dinner with me before going?" Nuhra suggested. "I can take you back to school."

Chris was a little flattered, but he was still very happy about it and immediately accepted Nuhra's invitation.

"Come to the military building tomorrow afternoon... No, I'll come back to pick you up." Nuhra ordered.

Chris knew that Nuhra originally wanted him to go directly to the military building to find him, but he was worried that something unexpected might happen and he might meet old Nar... then the situation would become not so good.

He was worried that this would add burden to Nuhra, so he took the initiative to say: "Why don't I go find you myself, so you don't have to come back..."

Nuhra raised an eyebrow and teased, "Wouldn't you like to stay with me for a while? I'd like to talk to you before you go back to school."

"We'll have a chance to tell it when we get back..." Chris knew that Nuhra was just joking, but he still couldn't help but hold his forehead helplessly.

"That's not necessarily true - as a professor, I never show mercy." Nuhra said meaningfully.

Chris's heart skipped a beat, and his fear of Nuhra suddenly began to resurface... They had gotten along so well these past two days that he almost forgot what Nuhra looked like at the beginning.
