Chapter 1 Awakening

Chapter 1 Awakening

"Awake! Awake!" Ke Qiao woke up in a puff of smoke and indistinct noises. His last memory before he passed out was of finishing a busy day, being exhausted from the torture, and then closing his eyes and never waking up again.

Ke Qiao opened his eyes dazedly and found himself lying in a circular cabin that should have appeared in a science fiction movie. Looking outside, he was surrounded by various holographic screens and furniture that exuded a cold metallic luster.

Ke Qiao's brain, still not fully awake, was unable to make a correct judgment. He suspected that he was dreaming. Could it be that he had really traveled to some interstellar civilization in outer space?

Beside the circular cabin, a beautiful woman reached out and touched his face with a look of heartache, choking with sobs, "Chris, why don't you let us be more careful?"

The middle-aged man standing beside the noblewoman remained silent. He wore a black uniform and had a serious expression. He simply placed his hand, adorned with a plate ring, on the woman's shoulder, silently comforting her. Ke Qiao suspected the two were a couple, and then, remembering the noblewoman's words, he assumed he was the couple's son.

"You scared your father so much that he came back from the military. How can this be allowed..." The lady became increasingly anxious as she spoke. "You're almost graduating from Vincent University. Can't you just be quiet and listen to us?"

"If he had been obedient, he wouldn't have ended up like this." The middle-aged man who had been silent until now finally spoke, his tone as cold as his expression.

Wait, what's going on here? Having just woken up, Ke Qiao was forced to accept the inexplicable, high-intensity information bombardment from the couple in front of him.

He interrupted weakly, "Uh, um, you two, what's wrong with me?"

As soon as these words were spoken, a deathly silence fell over the ward. Even the expressionless middle-aged man could hardly hide his shock. This made the woman, already immersed in grief, unable to contain herself any longer and fainted.

The next moment, a group of doctors filed in, and the entire ward was in chaos. Everything in Ke Qiao's eyes became a slow-motion movie. He began to wonder if he was not dreaming, but had actually traveled through time...

While no one was paying attention to him, he reached out and pinched himself hard. The pain from his body told him that he was not dreaming.

Yes, Ke Qiao, after waking up from a sleep, he traveled to an unknown number of years in the future, and inexplicably gained a pair of parents.

The doctors took the collapsed woman to another ward and then gave him a quick checkup. Ke Qiao was a little worried, afraid that the group would find out that he had replaced the real "Chris" with someone else.

"Mr. Corris's injuries have all healed in the treatment chamber, but..." The doctor hesitated, finally deciding to speak frankly, "He still has some minor brain damage, which manifests as memory loss and confusion. I hope you two will refrain from stimulating him during his recovery, and instead use the familiar environment to gradually guide his memories."

The middle-aged man had a deep expression, and it was unknown what he was thinking. He did not say anything more to Ke Qiao, but left the place thoughtfully.

Ke Qiao suppressed the urge to ask questions and waited patiently for everyone in the room to leave before he tried to walk out of the medical cabin and look around.

The holographic screen at the head of the bed projected his medical records. Under the soft blue light of the holographic screen, Ke Qiao could still roughly make out that the person in the medical record photo looked exactly like him. He tentatively reached out and swiped the screen, and more information emerged.

The owner of this body is called Krisnar, 22 years old, and is currently studying at a place called "Vincent Military Academy". The couple who were chattering next to the treatment cabin just now are his parents.

This time he went to the hospital because during the original owner's short-distance spaceship training class at school, the spaceship lost control and crashed directly into the wall of the training ground, causing the training spaceship to be scrapped on the spot and the pilot of the spaceship, the original owner, Chris, was also seriously injured.

There were other messy contents in the medical record that Ke Qiao couldn't understand, but he tried his best to read it and roughly pieced together the situation he was in.

Combined with what he learned from his medical records, he must have traveled to a high-tech civilization called the "Interstellar Empire." History here had progressed to the year 1049. His parents, who lived here, were suspected to be members of the upper class of this "Interstellar Empire"...

The original owner of this body did not seem to be an easy person to deal with. He had been a frequent visitor to hospitals in the past six months, from the school hospital of the academy to the first medical center of the imperial capital.

The reasons for going to the hospital are even more varied, such as swallowing unknown creatures, jumping into power solutions... everything. Ke Qiao was greatly shocked. He himself could not imagine that there were so many strange methods. He could also understand the helplessness contained in the conversation just now between the original owner's parents.

He walked around the ward twice more and found nothing new, so he had to lie back down in the treatment cabin.

Life here was leisurely, far more comfortable than before Ke Qiao's time travel. All he did was eat and sleep. Hunger or thirst, a thought would register with the healing system, instantly delivering food and drink. His biggest challenge was dealing with the original owner's parents. Racking his brains to play dumb had become his most mentally and physically taxing exercise.

Corris's father seemed very busy, visiting him occasionally, making sure he was alright before leaving hastily, rushing back to the military headquarters. Mrs. Nall, on the other hand, was incredibly patient, spending time with Corris whenever she could. Unsure of her intentions, Kojo remained polite yet distant in his dealings with Mrs. Nall, who deeply loved her son.

Ke Qiao recovered from his initial confusion and shock after crossing over. What became increasingly clear in his heart was only the worry about the future and the uneasiness and regret for occupying the original owner's body... He really wanted to go with the flow and give up easily, but he was afraid that others would find out that the original Corris had been replaced.

This feeling of apology was particularly strong during lunch time, because whenever this happened, Mrs. Nall, Kris's mother, would always watch him silently. Most of the time, she didn't say anything, but just watched Kjo eat quietly.

But today she tried to talk to Chris for the first time. Perhaps it was because after a few days of observation, she vaguely found that this "Chris" with brain damage had become calm and able to communicate.

"Chris, I still want to discuss with you something we mentioned before... I wonder if you still remember it?" Mrs. Nar asked cautiously. She stared at Chris's face, not wanting to miss any changes in his expression.

Ke Qiao was still unsure of the proper boundaries for interacting with her, and wasn't entirely sure what she was referring to. However, his intuition told him that this might be the crux of why Chris had been causing chaos everywhere he went for the past six months...

Even though he was nervous inside, Ke Qiao remained calm and composed. His tone was calm and a little confused: "I'm sorry, Mom, I really forgot a lot of things. I can't remember..."

Mrs. Nar was stunned for a moment when she heard Kress call her "Mom." It had been a long time since she'd heard Kress call her that. She softened her heart for a moment, but she changed her mind and chose not to irritate Kress, who had just woken up. "It's okay, it's not a big deal... Maybe you'll remember it after a while..."

As she spoke, Mrs. Nar stood up, took a few carefully prepared dishes, and placed them on the table. "These are your favorite dishes. Eat more."

The dishes were very rich, including fragrant and juicy roast chicken, colorful and colorful fruit and vegetable platters, and crystal clear and colorful jelly-like desserts. It was obvious that Mrs. Nar had prepared them with care.

Ke Qiao couldn't feel at ease until he figured out the matter that both the Nar couple were so secretive about. At this moment, no matter how delicious the food was, it was tasteless in his eyes.

He always felt that what Mrs. Nar was trying to hide was very important, and it was related to why the original owner's soul was switched with his.

Suppressing the inexplicable anxiety in his heart, he took a deep breath and asked Mrs. Nar, "Mom, but I want to know what's going on."

Mrs. Nar stiffened and turned slowly, her eyes slightly red. She was so anxious that she could no longer hide her emotions. "...It's your father. He wants you to marry Admiral Nuhra."
