Chapter 114 About Copying Books

There was so much I wanted to say, but I held back, and Green Ivy still offered a reminder.

"Young lady, it's already midnight. You should rest now, otherwise you might not look well tomorrow."

With such dark circles around his eyes, it would indeed be inappropriate for him to go and pay his respects to Princess Ping.

If someone mistakenly believes it's dissatisfaction with the punishment of Princess Ping, then they're in trouble.

"It's alright. He'll rest after writing for another 15 minutes. Knowing Fu Ashou's personality, he can only hold on for another 15 minutes at most. Tomorrow, we can just cover it up with pearl powder."

Jiang Xuelin shook her head and did not agree, only saying that she would rest later.

Seeing that Jiang Xuelin was ready to go to bed in fifteen minutes, Green Ivy naturally didn't try to persuade her any further.

Fifteen minutes later, Jiang Xuelin finally put down her pen, placed the copied book aside to dry, and went to bed while yawning.

"Green Ivy, you should go and rest too. It's time for Green Ivy to take the night watch, isn't it?"

"Yes, this servant will go and have Qingluo come and keep watch at night."

After helping Jiang Xuelin lie down on the bed, the attentive Green Ivy withdrew and gently closed the door.

After copying the book for so long, Jiang Xuelin was indeed exhausted, and she fell asleep shortly after lying down on the bed.

Before her consciousness fully sank into her dream, she always felt as if she had forgotten something.

Unfortunately, she was too tired and fell asleep without remembering what she had forgotten.

...I suppose it's not something important?

...

Because she had gone to bed late the night before, Jiang Xuelin was visibly tired when she woke up the next morning. But even though she was very tired, she still got up as usual at the appointed time, changed into clothes that were easy to move in, and went to the training ground.

Then she saw Fu Hanlai there, who was also yawning.

Jiang Xuelin: "..."

Fu Hanlai: "..."

Oh!

I knew that guy must have been secretly working hard at night. Luckily, I was smart enough not to be fooled!

Little did they know, both of them held the same view at this time. Master Wu had a mission these past two days, so he did not stay at the Prince Ping's residence. Fu Han came in the morning and started training there by himself.

On either side of the vast training ground, no one disturbed the other. They stretched their arms and legs in the slightly chilly autumn wind until the sun was fully up before stopping, preparing to go back and tidy up before paying their respects to Prince Ping and his wife.

Looking at herself in the bronze mirror, Jiang Xuelin asked her maid to bring pearl powder and gently applied it around her eyes, completely concealing the original dark circles.

While she was getting ready, Fu Hanlai circled around her, just like he had done at the Mid-Autumn Festival family dinner last time, but he wouldn't say what he wanted to do.

As soon as Jiang Xuelin was ready and got up from the embroidered stool, Fu Hanlai couldn't wait to plop down on her. He didn't say a word, just stared at Jiang Xuelin expectantly.

Jiang Xuelin: "..."

After thinking it over, she finally decided to use her usual pearl powder on Fu Hanlai, out of consideration for Princess Ping.

Lead powder makes the skin appear whiter, but Lady Jing'an always felt that lead powder had an indescribable smell and didn't like to use it. Jiang Xuelin was the same way; she preferred pearl powder and didn't prepare any lead powder.

After they had finished getting ready, the two of them went together to pay their respects to Prince Ping and his wife.

...and then they were stopped at the door.

Given the unpleasant things the two did yesterday, Princess Ping said she didn't want to see them for the time being, and that they didn't need to pay their respects; they should go back, and there was no need for them to come and pay their respects today.

The two people who had been making sarcastic remarks to each other on the way exchanged a glance and both showed disgusted expressions—their mother must not want to see them because of this guy!

However, since Princess Ping refused to see them and did not require them to pay their respects, and since the punishment of copying books was not yet over, the two turned around and went back to their courtyard. After having breakfast, they began copying books.

There's no way around it, the task is really quite demanding.

Moreover, they don't want the other party to finish first; they all want to be the first to do so.

They bickered all the way here and left arguing all the way there. Inside, Princess Ping listened to the servants talk about what happened at the door and rubbed her temples again, feeling a headache coming on.

It's all debt.

She didn't sleep well last night, not because she was worried about the two of them, but because she had a nightmare.

It was a real nightmare.

She dreamt that Fu Hanlai brought Jiang Xuelin with them, and behind them were two children—her long-awaited grandchildren.

Unfortunately, the family of four, from the eldest to the youngest, never stopped making a fuss. When Princess Ping woke up, she could hardly remember anything from her dream. She only knew that she dreamed of her grandchildren and that she was constantly cleaning up the mess made by the family of four. The entire Prince Ping's mansion was almost driven crazy by the noise.

Then she woke up.

The first thing she did upon waking was to instruct the servants guarding the door not to have Fu Hanlai and Jiang Xuelin pay their respects today, as she did not want to see them.

It shortens one's lifespan.

Because of this dream, Princess Ping even had a different idea in her mind—perhaps it wouldn't be bad if her grandchildren arrived later?

At least now, when she recalls the chaotic scene in her dream, she still feels a tightness in her chest and shortness of breath.

Since they didn't have anything to do these past two days, Jiang Xuelin and Fu Hanlai stayed home and copied books. Knowing that the other was also working hard in secret, they were naturally very competitive. The two people, who never liked books or music, chess, calligraphy and painting, actually calmed down and completed their tasks obediently and properly without supervision.

This also allowed Princess Ping to enjoy two good days.

As for Prince Ping... the prince is already an adult, she doesn't need to worry about him. Let him go out and have fun on his own, anyway, the prince knows what he's doing.

Princess Ping's punishment for the two was to deliver the items to her within three days, but in reality, she never expected to receive anything within three days, nor did she expect them to actually complete all the punishments within three days.
