They slept soundly all day, and it wasn't until evening that the two of them finally woke up yawning. Jiang Xuelin was alright; after a day of rest, her complexion had improved a lot and she had almost returned to normal. Fu Hanlai, however, still looked terrible.
Those dark circles under his eyes were so thick that anyone who saw them would shake their head in disapproval.
Qingluo led the servants to bring up the dinner, then retreated behind Jiang Xuelin.
Jiang Xuelin picked up a piece of grilled lamb chop, and after taking a bite, the tender flavor exploded in her mouth. After finishing the lamb chop, she asked Qingluo, "Did Mother send anyone over today?"
"Replying to the Crown Princess, no one from the Princess's side has come."
"Well, what about my mother? After you went there, did she say anything?" After all, she had agreed to go back today, but now that she's suddenly not going back, her mother will definitely ask about it.
"The lady asked why the Crown Princess and the Crown Prince had not returned."
Jiang Xuelin paused, turned to look at Qingluo, then took a sip of white fungus soup to calm her nerves before asking what the Lady of Jing'an Marquis had said, "What did you say to my mother?"
"This servant said that the Crown Princess and the Crown Prince were too busy last night and went to bed too late. They may have caught a chill and therefore were unable to go over." Qingluo did not hide anything from Jiang Xuelin. When she heard Jiang Xuelin ask her, she naturally answered her questions and told her everything.
—Including exactly what she said to Lady Jing'an.
Jiang Xuelin: "..."
Fu Hanlai, who had just scooped up a bowl of chicken soup and taken a sip, choked on the delicious soup upon hearing this and looked at Qingluo, who was standing with her head bowed, in shock.
Too busy...
So I went to bed late...
These words seem reasonable, but considering what they did last night, it's really... Jiang Xuelin's maids are all talented; most people wouldn't react this quickly.
"...Good, good. You told me what I asked you to tell my mother, right?"
"Yes, Madam said that she had already reminded those going south not to repeat the same texts as the Crown Princess and the people from the Prince Ping's residence, so that the Crown Princess need not worry."
After hearing this, Jiang Xuelin immediately understood and didn't ask any more questions, instead focusing on her dinner.
The two of them hadn't eaten much at noon, only a little around 9 am, and were quite hungry now, so they were eating much faster than before.
After dinner, it was time to rest, but neither of them was sleepy after sleeping all day. They just stared at each other, and then decided to go to the garden to digest their food before coming back.
Even after taking a stroll in the garden, the two of them still couldn't fall asleep, so they simply took out a storybook.
The storybooks Jiang Xuelin was reading now were different from those before. The protagonist of the story was a wandering knight, no longer the story of a rich young lady and a down-on-his-luck scholar. It was much more interesting than those. She read it while using the big red robe placed next to her, and she looked very comfortable.
Fu Hanlai had finished reading the storybook in his hand and was feeling a bit bored. Seeing that Jiang Xuelin was engrossed in reading the storybook and her attention was completely elsewhere, he realized that this was the reason why he was still not sleepy at all, and he felt annoyed.
He wasn't sleepy at the moment because he had slept too much during the day, and he had slept too much during the day because he had barely slept last night.
The reason I barely slept last night must be blamed on Jiang Xuelin.
So the final conclusion was that the reason why he was not sleepy at all was because of Jiang Xuelin.
Unable to resist, she kicked Jiang Xuelin's leg.
Just as Jiang Xuelin was getting to an exciting part, she sensed the commotion and finally looked away from the storybook, glancing at Fu Hanlai with a puzzled expression.
Then Fu Han rolled his eyes at him.
Jiang Xuelin: "..."
Is this guy having another episode?
A moment later, Jiang Xuelin felt another kick to her leg. Her face went blank, and she placed a fortune stick where she had just seen it. Then she put down her storybook and looked at Fu Hanlai expressionlessly. "Fu Ashou, what's wrong?"
"I bumped into it by accident." He simply wouldn't admit that he kicked it on purpose.
Upon seeing this, Jiang Xuelin immediately sneered, "Is that so? I thought you were trying to remind me that I haven't surpassed you yet and that I should catch up as soon as possible."
Fu Hanlai: "..."
My hair stood on end instantly.
His little Ah Shou made five trips back and forth yesterday, almost all night long, and was so exhausted that he vomited blood. If he continues to make those trips today, will his little Ah Shou just die from exhaustion?
He wants to live to be a hundred!
Thinking of this, Fu Hanlai dared not tease Jiang Xuelin any further. He immediately got up from the armchair, went to the inner room, climbed onto the bed, obediently covered himself with the quilt, and closed his eyes.
Jiang Xuelin: "..."
Tsk.
Jiang Xuelin read for a while longer, finishing the entire storybook, before putting it away, letting her hair down, and climbing into bed.
Fu Hanlai was already asleep at this time.
He originally thought that he was not sleepy at all, and that even if he got into bed, he would probably toss and turn and not be able to fall asleep. However, he did not expect that he would slowly lose consciousness under the attraction of the warm quilt after lying down for a short while.
Only after lying down did he realize that he was still very tired.
Jiang Xuelin leaned closer, but Fu Hanlai didn't make a sound, sleeping peacefully and soundly.
Why do I find it so irritating?
Thinking about what happened during the day, and looking at Fu Ashou's honest and obedient sleeping face, she suddenly felt even more annoyed.
Jiang Xuelin has never been one to compromise herself, and she didn't go too far. She was just repeating what Fu Ashou had done to her. That's not excessive, is it?
