Chapter 4 Marriage Crisis

Both of them had recently been warned by their families not to cause trouble, and since they were in front of the Buddha, they didn't actually fight, even though they were both itching to.

The two have been discussing marriage recently. If others find out about their fight, the marriage will probably be in jeopardy, which would be bad for their reputations—although neither of them has much of a good reputation in general, it's best to be careful at a time like this.

Jiang Xuelin didn't want to waste the beautiful spring weather on someone like Fu Hanlai, so she prepared to leave after drawing her fortune stick.

Have some vegetarian food first, then go horse racing; it won't delay anything.

As they approached the door, Jiang Xuelin noticed Fu Hanlai had also stepped beside her, and neither of them would give way.

"Oh, by the way, I heard that the Third Prince is fond of Miss Jiang and is preparing to ask his uncle and grandmother for a marriage decree. Congratulations in advance." After saying this, Fu Hanlai ignored Jiang Xuelin's sudden stop, opened his folding fan, and strode forward.

He did dislike Jiang Xuelin and thought that anyone who married her would be incredibly unlucky. But having known her for so long, he had some understanding of her personality and naturally wouldn't watch her jump into a fire pit.

It was just a reminder; consider it repayment for saving my life today.

Besides... Jiang Xuelin came to Yuanshan Temple today, definitely to relax!

Absolutely.

He was indeed offering a well-intentioned reminder. If the Jiang family truly didn't want Jiang Xuelin to marry the Third Prince and get involved in the struggle for the throne, not to mention that Jiang Xuelin would have to face that group of beautiful women and become someone else's stepmother, then they had to resolve this matter as soon as possible.

Otherwise, if the Third Prince had persuaded the Emperor to grant the marriage directly, the Jiang family would have absolutely no chance of disobeying the imperial decree.

The emperor's words are law and cannot be changed. No matter how unwilling the Jiang family is, they will have to accept the marriage.

Even if the Emperor doesn't agree, given the Empress Dowager's temperament, if the Third Prince really asks for her decree, he will probably succeed.

Once the Empress Dowager issues her decree, the Emperor is unlikely to disobey it out of filial piety.

—It's just a small matter, not worth the Emperor and Empress Dowager falling out over. Besides, the Emperor has always been very filial, and he would never offend the Empress Dowager.

Fu Hanlai may be a playboy, but the playboys in the capital are not stupid. At least they know the basics, what they can and cannot do, and who they can and cannot offend.

That's how you can live a better life as a spoiled brat.

He kindly reminded Jiang Xuelin, but there was another meaning behind it.

You came out to clear your head? Now you must be feeling even worse, right?

Hey!

Let's see how you play!

Leaving behind those words that ruined Jiang Xuelin's mood, Fu Hanlai went out for a stroll in high spirits.

Jiang Xuelin watched Fu Hanlai's departing figure with a blank expression, her mood truly terrible.

"girl?"

"It's alright, let's go."

"yes."

After the two left, another woman wearing a veiled hat soon came to the Bodhisattva Hall, knelt on the prayer mat, lit an incense stick, clasped her hands together, closed her eyes and prayed for a while before getting up and coming to the old monk.

Through the thin veil on the hat, the old monk could not see the woman's face clearly, only a blurry one.

"Master, what fortune sticks did those two draw just now? Would you mind telling me?" She spoke softly, a completely different person from Jiang Xuelin just now.

"Amitabha, those two benefactors are extremely lucky today, both have drawn very auspicious fortune slips. May I ask what this benefactor wishes to ask for?" The old monk did not say the content of the fortune slips, nor did he say what fortune slips the two had asked for, he only vaguely said "very auspicious".

He didn't know what the woman in front of him meant, but he certainly wouldn't reveal someone else's signature to others, at least not before the other person agreed.

Not getting the answer she wanted, only hearing "Great Fortune," the woman wearing a veil frowned slightly, though the old monk naturally couldn't see it. She then walked to the other side, picked up the divination tube, and began to draw lots herself.

After a while, a bamboo skewer fell to the ground, and a maidservant stepped forward, picked it up, and placed it in the woman's hand.

"Master, please help me with this."

"Place the bamboo skewers on the wooden table," the woman said softly.

The old monk smiled after just one glance. "Good fortune. Don't be anxious, benefactor. According to the divination, your wishes will be fulfilled. Just wait patiently."

The woman breathed a sigh of relief, and at the same time, secretly confirmed her own thoughts.

"Thank you for your guidance, Master." After saying this, the maid behind her put ten taels of silver in the place where the incense money was kept, and then the two of them left.

"Your wish has been fulfilled, but what the final outcome will be depends on your choice. I hope you won't regret it. Amitabha." After the two left, the old monk tidied up the divination sticks and muttered to himself.

Jiang Xuelin had already returned to the room where she had been resting. Two guards were waiting in the courtyard. Soon after, a young monk brought over the vegetarian meal.

Because she had something on her mind, Jiang Xuelin didn't have much of an appetite and only ate a little before stopping.

"Would you like some more, miss?"

The maid thought to herself, "The young lady used to really enjoy the vegetarian food at Yuanshan Temple."

"No need, I'm going out for a run."

After galloping through the mountains for a while, Jiang Xuelin finally released some of the pent-up frustration in her heart, but her mood was never as good as when she first set out.

Not in much spirits, Jiang Xue ran around for a while and didn't linger outside for too long before returning home. Anyway, if she stayed here, she might run into Fu Hanlai again, and since she was already in a bad mood, seeing him would only make her feel worse.
