Chapter 50
The wind and rain lashed against the windowpanes. In the manor, the male insect with long golden hair hurried up the stairs, his steps hurried and his clothes half-wet.
His heart skipped a beat when he first saw the completely destroyed bedroom, then he continued forward and stopped at the door of the second room. After a brief hesitation, his slender hand pushed open the door: "Hill—"
Sirius's eager eyes searched the room, but there was no sign of the male insect on the sofa. Only the bedroom door was slightly ajar, and Sirius rushed into the bedroom.
As soon as Bu entered, he couldn't help but raise his hand to shield himself. The howling wind blew in from the balcony, but it couldn't dispel the strong gunpowder pheromones.
Sophia roses bloomed on the semi-open balcony, a testament to Albert's delicate touch. However, the ferocious flowers had been battered by the storm, their drooping stems and decaying petals trembling in the wind and rain.
Hill stood amidst the withered flowers, the fierce wind whipping his soft robes and disheveled long hair, making him appear both austere and solitary. He stood with his back to Sirius, seemingly gazing into the distance at the torrential rain.
Sirius approached step by step, wanting to scold him for dressing so lightly in the rain, wanting to drape a coat over him, so many things he wanted to do, but fell silent when he saw his bare ankles.
A thin layer of rainwater had accumulated on the balcony, sliding down the male insect's slightly bony leg bones.
Sirius sighed and slowly stepped forward: "Why is it always like this? Once you want something, you don't care about anything else."
Wanting to be with Celt, she left the Holy City despite her physical condition and impending advancement. She disliked wearing shoes and even in this kind of weather, she resolutely stood in the rain.
She may seem gentle, but she's always willing to take a gamble.
"This is the female insect you wanted me to try to contact and accept." Hill didn't turn around, her back to Sirius, her voice broken by the howling wind.
Albert noticed that he didn't like wearing shoes, but tried to get him to wear well-made soft socks. In fact, he didn't care what Hilgard wanted; it was just a way to please Hilgard.
Keeping his body warm and in optimal condition is essential for him to deliver the best pheromones to the female insect.
The ultimate goal is simply pheromones, and it doesn't matter whether the pheromones are given by Hilgard or Sirius.
For physiologically impaired mammals, the value of a male insect is measured solely by the level of its pheromones.
His azure eyes were as if washed by a torrential rain, leaving only a desolate coldness. Perhaps the rain was too heavy, for he stood there as if he could be swept away by the gale at any moment and disappear without a trace.
The insect couldn't help but want to reach out and grab him, yet it was afraid that if it pulled any harder, he would shatter in the wind.
Sirius felt a pang in his heart. He slowly raised his hand as if to touch Hill's face, but in the end, he only gently placed it on Hill's long hair: "It's all my brother's fault."
“Albert knows my secret.”
As if thinking of something, Hill's lips curled into a faint smile, seemingly with great interest: "Do you think he would announce to the entire intergalactic world that I have lost my reproductive ability in order to break off the engagement?"
Hill's long, slender hand stroked the swaying, withered petals. Damp raindrops slipped through his fingers. The flowers, already exhausted by the wind and rain, could no longer bear any weight. With just a light touch, they fell to the ground, leaving only lonely calyxes.
The marriage between the Empire and the Federation is not so easy to dissolve. Albert certainly cannot accept the fate of marrying him and waiting to die. She is an equally ambitious female insect. She has carefully planned to achieve the S-rank male insect level and the identity of the Third Prince. So, what kind of reason is best?
Using Hilgard's stomach-nourishing ability to threaten the male insect into breaking off the marriage is certainly the best option. But what if Hilgard refuses?
Why would a female insect willingly enter the grave?
All the insects will know that he is crippled and incompetent. All the praise and support they once gave him will turn into endless insults, causing him to die from countless curses and trampling.
It's truly pathetic to think about.
A broken thorn pricked his hand, and Hill slowly tightened his grip, a drop of bright red blood trickling down the lines of his palm.
"Will Celtic resolve this hidden danger for me?" he asked, seemingly to himself, his eyes devoid of warmth.
Would a female insect, who is so calm and always weighs her interests on both sides of the scale, really do something against the interests of a male insect?
What will the female insect do this time, who was able to calmly continue the marriage even after witnessing his death six months ago?
"Brother, what should I do if he can't do it?" Rainwater slid down Hill's thin cheeks, and his clear blue eyes were like fragile glass.
“Don’t be afraid.” Sirius placed his hand on his shoulder without applying any force, but instead softened his tone. He took a step forward and tentatively touched Hill’s wet hair, shielding him from the wind and rain blowing from the side.
"Your brother will take care of everything for you."
——
Everything was blurred in the torrential rain. The raindrops pattered down on the suspended river, splashing up large swaths of muddy water. The downpour caused flooding, and the waves surged forward.
A large tree, which several insects could barely encircle, barely withstood the erosion of the flood. A female insect with black and white striped wings perched on the treetop, panting heavily with a pale face. Her tall figure seemed to have been torn by something, and blood dripped down her body.
The personal terminal next to his ear was connected, and the female insect's perpetually gentle voice came through: "Your Excellency Albert, what's the situation?"
Albert's handsome face looked particularly grim. He pressed his hand against the personal terminal, and even though he had expected it, he couldn't help but feel anxious. He forced himself to calm down in order to face the overwhelming disappointment.
"You're right."
Hilgard's advancement is questionable, and even his level may be suspicious.
What he just discovered is not just about nourishing the stomach.
"So, will you accept my invitation?" the female insect on the other side asked softly.
Albert clenched his fists; of course he was unwilling to accept this!
However, there was no way to help him. Hilgard's stomach-soothing ability could not provide the female insects with the necessary pheromones to alleviate their mental turmoil. Marrying Hilgard meant that his autocracy would slowly lead to his death. He was at the peak of his female insect combat power, second only to Celt. He could not and would not accept such an ending.
“Your Excellency, you don’t have much time to hesitate. You’ve learned such a big secret about Hilgard. Do you think he will let you return to the Federation safely? Besides,” the female insect’s voice was low, like a devil whispering in your ear, “as far as I know, none of the Federation’s current high-ranking male insects are compatible with you.”
This is also why the Federation had to participate in the marriage alliance. When the Federation rebelled against the Empire and was hunted down, the female insects were born with the ability to soar through the sky, but the male insects were too delicate, and very few of them were taken away or survived.
They occupy even more remote star systems, and due to the low fertility rate of male insects, high-ranking males and females are often related by blood to this day.
Albert is a 2S female insect, and an A-grade male insect would be sufficient to cure his paralysis symptoms. Although an S-grade male insect would be better, he has no other choice.
"I promise, you will provide me with the position of a female servant and the power over one-third of the empire's border regions."
Albert's voice was low as he made his decision in an instant.
“How greedy,” the other person sighed softly. “However, I like ambitious female insects.”
Having ambition and drive makes it easier to control things, doesn't it?
"Congratulations on making the right choice." The female insect opposite smiled slightly. "Actually, there is also Prince Sirius, an S-class male insect. What is the reason you did not choose Sirius?"
He seemed genuinely curious, yet he slowly steered the conversation toward the core issue, like a spider slowly extending its legs in the dark.
“Sirius helped Hilgard cover up the truth.”
There is an unspeakable mystery between Sirius and Hilgard, so it would be even more foolish to place one's hopes on Sirius.
Sirius's queen pheromones appeared on Hilgard, on the hem of his clothes drifting on the water, and on the night he watched through the glass window as the dominant female insect tightly embraced the male insect.
His suspicions actually stemmed from the pheromones emanating from Hilgard...
There was no surprise on the other side; after all, Hilgard and Sirius were enemies regardless. The female insect's voice carried a calm chuckle, "So now, may I tell my current ally what secret you have discovered?"
“Hilgard—”
Sizzle sizzle—
Sizzle—
A piercing sound came from the other end, followed by a sudden signal failure. Albert's figure folded and vanished.
Glug glug—
The room was filled only with the warm aroma of black tea. The lord was fast asleep, and when he awoke, he would wish to drink a cup of fresh Gross Mountain black tea.
The female insect stood by the window, slowly and methodically filling a teacup with velvety milk: "I originally hoped that the scandal between Celtic and Hilgard would come to light, ruining the marriage between Celtic and Sirius. Hilgard's advancement would be disrupted and would most likely fail. This way, I could get rid of Celtic silently and make Hilgard disappear naturally. I didn't expect Hilgard to survive."
"I was quite disappointed about this at first, but now it seems that things aren't so bad."
The female insect bent down and took a sip of black tea, her light brown hair slowly sliding down to reveal a gentle profile.
Hilgard ultimately ran into problems; half the goal was achieved, but the other half—
“Selte, I originally thought that Hilgard would not accept a female insect who once tried to kill him. Without an S-class male insect, without any insect intervention, Celte would naturally die.”
"It's such a pity he's still alive."
——
On the river, the tide rose and fell. Albert keenly sensed the scent of blood. The rain poured down, and in such weather, a chill seeped into his bones from the inside out.
The communication had been cut off; a powerful insectoid system had blocked all communication on the entire planet Acheron. Fortunately, he had other plans.
The female insect subtly pressed a button.
The smell of gunpowder gradually spread through the mist, and the already raging flood became even more turbulent. Towering waves crashed against the trees, making the centuries-old trees teeter on the brink of collapse.
battlefield.
The smoke of battle was his harbinger; wherever Celt was, it became a battlefield of carnage.
Albert flapped his bone wings and slowly rose into the air. He had fought Celt several times, and he had a premonition that this would be the most brutal one.
Suddenly, the sound of an ancient tree breaking came from behind.
He's here—
