Chapter 64
Because male insects are scarce, female insects will usually go to great lengths to attract them, including military rank, family background, and wealth. The more wealth a female insect carries, the more likely she is to attract a male insect.
In the Zerg race, only the male lord can make the female Zerg willingly give up all her property. Giving away all her property without registering the marriage will put the female Zerg at a huge disadvantage in subsequent marriage choices if she does not choose her.
In fact, female insects will give expensive gifts to show their sincerity, but they will never give everything away.
"What a vast fortune!"
"Star coins! So many star coins! All I can see are star coins!"
"Is this the wealth of a powerful marshal in the military? It's so abundant I have no concept of it! Can someone convert it into star coins for me? I can't even count how many zeros there are!"
"Has the Marshal gone mad?!"
There was a brief lull in the StarNet, followed by an explosive surge of public opinion.
"Insane theory +1. Does true mental rigidity really affect the brain? I'm starting to believe this argument, otherwise why would Marshal Celtic make such a decision?!"
"If His Highness Hilgard does not ultimately choose the Marshal, will the Marshal be left penniless and waiting to die as a mere insect?"
"Has the Marshal truly fallen for Prince Hilgard? Has he been blinded by love?"
"I'm really in love with him too much, and we're only in the pursuit stage right now! I'm starting to believe in the theory of true love."
"Have you forgotten that a 3S female insect needs S-grade male insect pheromones to channel mental energy? His Highness Sirius and the Marshal have essentially fallen out. If we don't choose His Highness Hilgard, are we just waiting to die?" The rational insect cruelly exposed the reality.
"What use are these assets if we die? We might as well use them to win over Prince Hilgard."
"Why are you all so rational? I almost believed it just now..." Accompanied by a heartbroken crying emoji.
Only after being reminded by the passerby insect did the other insects realize what had happened and were immediately disappointed.
Marshal Celtic was known for his rationality and ruthlessness. Seeing such a rational person take a step towards emotion greatly excited him, but he also discovered that emotion was just a facade of weighing the pros and cons. How could he not feel regret?
Hill's gaze froze for a moment at first, as if he was also taken aback, but he quickly figured out the reason.
Yes, Celtic had no other choice but to desperately beg for his forgiveness, because he and Sirius had deceived Celtic onto a path of no return.
Therefore, they had no choice but to adopt such a humble posture.
Hill leaned back and slightly raised his hand. The quantum computer key representing Celtic's property floated in mid-air. As long as Hill stretched out his hand slightly, the handover would be completed, and the property would become his property.
His fingers were only inches away from the quantum computer, yet they never touched it.
Just as all the insects thought he was going to touch it, he suddenly withdrew his hand, his face turning cold: "I won't accept."
"His Highness seems angry!"
Why?
"Is Marshal Celt too straightforward? Did his lack of originality displease His Highness?" StarNet began to rack its brains and let its thoughts wander.
The meeting ended with Hilgard's expression suddenly turning cold, and the group of female insects watched Hilgard's retreating figure as he walked upstairs, feeling lost and forlorn.
Even those of their caliber have very few opportunities to meet male insect princes at various banquets. Most of the time, they are scattered across different star systems carrying out combat missions and can only return to the capital star during specific time periods. Many insects used their precious annual leave to participate in this selection.
As evening approached, Hilgard did not come downstairs for dinner, but instead had his female attendant bring the food upstairs.
Brigadier General Vincent observed that His Highness Hilgard did not eat much. Around eight o'clock, he confidently carried a plate of desserts up to the second floor. There, he met Lieutenant General Baxter, Major General Damon, Major General Wyatt, and many female insects, all carrying various desserts, crowding the stairwell.
The insects exchanged a deep look, each seeing the same question in the other's eyes.
What are you doing here?
They immediately separated and stood apart, creating a distance between themselves and their competitors in the limited space, their eyes filled with hostility.
—Those damned bugs are trying to get there first again!
The female insects went downstairs and took away the desserts, conveying His Highness Hilgard's gratitude, but did not allow any of the female insects to step onto the stairs to the second floor.
As the female insects left, they glared at their rivals. If it weren't for so many insects coming at the same time, they would have already seen Prince Hilgard.
Damn bugs!
Upstairs, Bright leaned against the window, ate his third dessert of the night, and gave his comments.
"Major General Wyatt really likes to add nuts, which are a bit hard to chew; Lieutenant General Baxter's jam was a bit burnt, and the female insects' taste buds aren't as sensitive as the males', so he didn't notice; Major General Damon's chocolate cake was quite delicious, but eating too much of it kept me awake, which is why I'm becoming more and more awake now."
"I really can't finish the rest, so I can have a taste for you while I play games tonight." Bright picked a berry and popped it into his mouth to cleanse his palate, while glancing at the names next to the desserts.
To make sure their hard work wasn't in vain, the female insects all marked their names on the desserts, using fancy calligraphy.
I looked around, but I couldn't find that familiar name that should be there.
"Why isn't Marshal Celt mentioned? Even if these female insects haven't quite won you over, at least they've taken some action. Marshal Celt isn't just sitting around doing nothing, is he? You should take all his assets. Why are you being so polite with him?"
Given his actions, it wouldn't be unreasonable to double the loan amount.
Hill leaned against the headboard, already dressed in a soft bathrobe, checking the information on the personal terminal. Upon hearing this, her fingertips paused slightly in mid-air, but she remained silent.
Bright was his good friend and also his chief bodyguard. The female would notify Bright first. Bright's personal terminal lit up, and he tilted his head slightly, his eyes lighting up to indicate that he had received the message.
"The insect has arrived as soon as it was mentioned; Marshal Celtic requests an audience."
"What are you doing here?" Hill didn't look up, continuing to look at her things, a hint of sarcasm in her voice. "Also here to deliver desserts?"
Male insects, with their sensitive taste buds, love sweet flavors that bring pleasure. Making sweet things when you don't know what to make or what to buy has become the bible for pleasing male insects.
"No, he came to apologize."
How original! Of course, Hill wouldn't see me if I just sent him something, but to apologize, I'd have to see him first.
"Should we see him?" Blatt asked Hill for his opinion.
Hill simply turned on his personal terminal and connected to the female communication device. The female understood his meaning and immediately handed the terminal to Marshal Celtic.
The male insect's detached, aloof voice came from beside me: "What are you apologizing for?"
To be concise and to the point, if he said anything incorrect, he would never be allowed to go upstairs.
“I gave my property to Your Highness so that Your Highness could decide for yourself what you liked, thus avoiding the need to carefully select items and disappointing Your Highness. This is my fault.”
Celt gripped the quantum computer tightly, holding it very close. The sound of the male insect alone made his heart clench, and he pleaded for forgiveness in a deep voice.
Hill scoffed lightly: "Why didn't you think of that back then?"
What's the point of thinking about it afterward? You just gave him all your property, and then you didn't have to think or worry about anything anymore. Where in the world is there such a good thing?
Does he lack star coins? His parents, including Cyrus, have showered him with countless riches over the years; he can get anything he wants, except—
Hill narrowed her eyes slightly, her fingertips gripping the soft bedding.
“I’ve got it,” Celt’s voice interrupted his thoughts. He continued, “The capital planet has primeval forests that raise star beasts. The military will purchase the star beast cores and parts in real time. At my speed, I can make a round trip in six hours. Hunting 24 S-class star beasts will be enough to prepare a gift for you.”
"Why 24?" Hill asked.
"24 S-class star beasts are equivalent to 80 million star coins, which is the price of the Moonstone on the ornament that Lieutenant General Baxter gave you multiplied by 12. That's just enough to make a bracelet."
Hill didn't speak; the communication was only voice-based, so the male insect's expression couldn't be seen.
Celtic paused for a moment and continued, "You don't like jewelry, but you enjoy collecting it because you need to accessorize for important occasions."
Perhaps because he was too frail, Hill always felt that all the jewelry was too heavy, the shoes were too heavy, the brooches were too heavy, and the elaborate, layered dresses were too heavy. He liked everything light and not heavy, but many people thought he admired nature or frugality. In fact, he didn't mean it that way.
Celtic's voice was slightly low and had a magnetic quality: "I've already chosen a gift as an apology. Would you like to see it now?"
Hill did not answer, but instead hung up the call.
The submissive seemed to receive some kind of command and made way for Celtic.
“He’s right. I thought you’d be happier, Hill.” Bright couldn’t help but frown, not understanding why Hill’s expression grew even colder despite Celt’s almost flawless answer.
Hill leaned against the bedside, the light falling from above casting a cold shadow on his eyes: "This just makes me think how ridiculous I used to be."
When I loved him with all my heart, he was indifferent. Now, he tries every means to please me, simply because I am Hilgard, and I am an S-class male insect.
What he wanted to please, liked, and cherished was never Hill, the male insect, but rather everything that Hillgard represented.
“That’s how power-hungry he is, willing to do anything to achieve it.” Hill’s lips curled into a smile in the shadows. “He’ll pay a heavy price sooner or later.”
Celtic steadily walked up the stairs, and when he was three steps from Hill's bedroom, he heard the door open. He gripped the tray tightly and looked up.
In the past few hours, he went to the Star Beast Forest and the auction. Since he had promised to give it to Hill, even if Hill did not accept it, it already belonged to Hill in his heart.
Is there a female insect in Hill's room? Did she impress Hill before he returned?
Bright asked the female to help him carry out the remaining desserts. The moment he saw Celt, he felt a sudden chill and involuntarily took a step back.
It was a chilling feeling that made his bones tremble. The cold, gray eyes seemed ready to slice him into pieces and use him for male insect experiments at any moment. Although they disappeared quickly, it made him quicken his pace.
Once he was sure he was out of the attack range, Bright immediately rushed to his room, locked the door, and typed a message to Hill to complain.
"Is Celtic crazy? Does he suspect we're in a one-on-one relationship?! I feel like he's going to skin me alive?!"
