Chapter Ninety-Eight: She Would Be Willing to Die with Him
“Your Highness, it was this old minister who instructed him.” Chief Secretary Chen also knelt before Lu Qingheng, looking up at him.
Lu Qingheng felt a surge of blood rushing through his chest. After his parents died, Chen Changshi had always been devoted to him, caring for him even more than his own grandson.
Lu Qingheng had always regarded him as his own family, but Chen Changshi, whom he regarded as family, sent someone to kill the person he loved most. He felt a lump in his throat and wanted to lash out, but when he saw Chen Changshi's full head of white hair, he remembered how good Chen Changshi had been to him and how hard Chen Changshi had worked day and night for the entire Yan Prince's Mansion, and he couldn't lash out.
But if I don't react, I feel like I'm letting Han Wei down.
In a fit of anger, his breathing became rapid again, his head began to throb, and he almost fainted.
He suppressed his discomfort and spoke softly to Han Wei:
"Weiwei, you've been frightened. I'll give you an explanation for what happened today. Can you go back now?"
Han Wei looked at him and nodded.
Han Wei turned and walked away, followed by two maids who served her. After returning to the courtyard, she immediately slipped out the window and quietly went back inside.
She promised Lu Qingheng she would go back first, and she has already gone back. So, if she goes back and then comes back, then she has been obedient, right?
What did Han Wei do when she came back?
She avoided people and quietly crept to the roof of Lu Qingheng's study, where she eavesdropped on Lu Qingheng's conversation with Chief Secretary Chen.
She saw Chief Secretary Chen kneeling on the ground, Lu Qingheng's face cold. Lu Qingheng remained silent for a long time, unable to utter a harsh word to Chief Secretary Chen, the old man who had cared for him since childhood. He sighed.
"Get up!"
Chief Secretary Chen stood up and bowed respectfully to Lu Qingheng.
Lu Qingheng gave him a deep look:
“Uncle Chen, I know you’re worried about me and want to protect me, but have you thought about it? If anything happens to Weiwei, I won’t be able to handle the shock and will immediately follow her in death.”
Chief Secretary Chen suddenly looked up, his expression changing drastically.
It wasn't impossible; the thought of that possibility sent a chill down his spine.
“Uncle Chen, you’ve seen it now. Even Bai Yu is no match for her. If she really wanted to harm me, why would she go to such lengths to get close to me? Wouldn’t it be much easier to just give me a palm strike?”
"I only have a few years left to live..."
"Your Highness, please don't say that. There must be a way!" Chief Secretary Chen interrupted Lu Qingheng.
Lu Qingheng glanced at him, signaling him to listen to her, and then continued, "I know my own body best. How many days do I have left? I never expected to meet a woman I like again. Meeting Weiwei is already my greatest fortune."
"Even if she really has ulterior motives, even if she's lying to me, I'm still happy that she's by my side. Even if she's a demon or monster who will drag my soul to hell in the future, I'll accept it."
Looking at Lu Qingheng's face, Chen Changshi saw in Lu Qingheng's eyes a blissful contentment, and behind that contentment lay a hidden, helpless pain. He lowered his head, his heart growing heavier. He recalled the hardships Lu Qingheng had endured since childhood, and the pained, wretched look on his face during each episode of his illness. He sighed heavily in his heart:
Forget it, even if Han Wei really has some ulterior motive, if she can deceive His Highness to death, then let it go!
Your Highness has suffered too much.
"This old minister understands!" Chief Secretary Chen bowed solemnly to Lu Qingheng.
On the rooftop, Han Wei looked up, her heart pounding and her cheeks burning. She darted back to her courtyard like a gust of wind, then climbed through the window into her house. Lying on her bed, her mind was filled with Lu Qingheng's words.
He said that if anything happened to her, he would go with her;
He said he liked her;
He said that meeting her was his greatest fortune;
He said he would be happy even if she lied to him;
He also said that even if she were a demon or monster who would drag him to hell in the future, he would accept it.
Han Wei hugged the pillow, her cheeks growing hotter and hotter. He liked her so much.
He loves her so much, how could she let him die?
The next day, Chen Changshi came to apologize to Han Wei, and Han Wei generously forgave him. Although this guy had ordered someone to assassinate her, it hadn't caused her any real harm. Instead, it was because of him that she realized how much Lu Qingheng cared about her, so she generously forgave him this time.
Winter is here, and the weather is getting colder and colder.
During the winter, Lu Qingheng almost never left his room. Outside, it was freezing cold, and snow was falling. Han Wei and Lu Qingheng would sit by the fireplace inside, warming themselves while playing chess.
Han Wei was very competitive and determined to win against Lu Qingheng fair and square. However, a whole winter passed without her winning once. Every time, she was utterly defeated by Lu Qingheng on the chessboard.

In spring, all the pear trees planted in the Prince of Yan's mansion bloomed. As far as the eye could see, the trees were covered with blossoms, layer upon layer, like a sea of fragrant snow.
Han Wei walked under the pear trees and saw a young man in a white fox fur coat playing with an adorable kitten in the distance. The young man had jet-black hair and a face as white as snow, and against the backdrop of the pear blossoms, he was unbelievably beautiful. Han Wei stared in amazement for a while before she came to her senses and walked towards the young man.
Meow~
The little cat with glossy, fluffy fur and heterochromatic eyes slipped from the boy's hands as soon as it saw Han Wei. Its small body leaped lightly onto a pear tree branch nearby, causing the branch to sway and the pure white petals to fall softly.
A few white petals fell onto the boy's dark hair.
Han Wei came over with a smile and said, "What's wrong with that little guy? He runs away every time he sees me."
Han Wei had already seen that kitten with heterochromatic eyes. Lu Qingheng had told her about it before, saying that the kitten came from somewhere and often came to the Prince's mansion to freeload. When it was happy, it could be seen everywhere in the mansion, but when it was unhappy, no one could find it.
Han Wei had just arrived at the Prince's Mansion when she saw this little cat appear out of nowhere, perched on a tree and staring at her with eyes just like a person's, as if it were trying to figure out her origins.
However, this little guy is very attached to Lu Qingheng, but doesn't seem to like her much. Every time Han Wei gets close, it runs away.
Lu Qingheng smiled and comforted Han Wei, saying:
"It's not targeting you; it doesn't let anyone near it except me."
Han Wei replied, "Okay, I feel comforted."
Lu Qingheng chuckled softly. In the pear blossom grove in spring, his smile was captivating. Han Wei stared at him blankly. At that moment, she felt that she would be willing to die with him.
"Weiwei, Weiwei?"
Lu Qingheng called Han Wei several times before she came back to her senses.
Lu Qingheng smiled and asked her, "What are you thinking about?"
A blush crept onto Han Wei's beautiful face as she hugged Lu Qingheng's arm. "I wasn't thinking about anything. Let's go for a walk ahead!"
"good!"
The two of them strolled through the pear orchard, and Lu Qingheng told Han Wei about his deceased parents. He said that his mother loved pear blossoms, so his father planted pear trees all over the palace and even personally planted an entire pear orchard.
