Chapter 139 The Great Calamity

In the end, Wang Yao was so annoyed that he simply abandoned the "Imperial Earth" and walked forward with Qin Su.

The further Wang Yao walked, the more horrified he became. There must be several hundred ghosts in this energy office, or ghosts from other offices had infiltrated it.

As they walked further, all they could see were corpses lying on the ground. Some of these corpses were intact, while others were mutilated and broken, clearly injured by vengeful spirits that had entered a moderate stage of illness.

A layer of pale blue mist was already visible in the air, and Qin Su had long since become a moving wisp of black smoke, making it impossible to even see her figure clearly.

Wang Yao felt that the scene before him was becoming more and more like the pile of corpses he had seen at the Grand Hotel, and his expression gradually became solemn.

"There!" The Energy Office was indeed not far away. After Wang Yao and the others turned two corners, Qin Su pointed to a door on the right-hand side ahead, which was half blocked by layers of ghost corpses and called out.

Wang Yao nodded and stepped forward. He didn't need the Awakening Token; he simply dragged the ghost corpses away one by one and cleared the door.

Upon arriving at this place, the blue mist gradually thickened, as if a layer of blue gauze had been draped around them. Wang Yao himself felt a distinct discomfort, noticing that the temperature was seventeen or eighteen degrees lower than in other parts of the underworld, and the air was icy cold.

He recalled what Officer Chen had told him at the Ghost Building in Huadu: zombie disease is contagious. He secretly thought that this blue corpse energy was most likely the culprit behind zombie disease, and worried that he might accidentally contract it himself, which would be a huge disaster.

Thinking this, Wang Yao also put on a "glass" protective suit. As the black smoke rose around him, he indeed felt less cold.

Wang Yao followed Qin Su through the door and found two more doors directly opposite, one on the left and one on the right. The underworld was indeed the same everywhere, with doors inside doors, making it awkward and inconvenient.

There were many dead ghosts lying on the ground inside the door, and Wang Yao had to clean them up again. Qin Su led Wang Yao through the left door, and there were two more doors inside. Wang Yao cleaned up the dead ghosts on the ground again, and then went in through the left door again.

After passing through three doors, Qin Su led Wang Yao into a room. Inside, a large desk occupied most of the room. Three ghosts lined up from the doorway, seemingly there to deliver a message to the person inside.

It's unclear whether they entered the moderate stage and transformed into vengeful ghosts, going berserk and trying to bite their boss, or whether the corpse energy came too quickly, causing the symptoms to skip the mild and moderate stages and directly enter the severe stage, thus turning them into dead ghosts in front of the boss's desk.

Anxious, Qin Su rushed into the house, stepping over the dead ghost's body, without waiting for Wang Yao to clean up.

"Director Zhu... Director Zhu too..." Qin Su exclaimed from inside. Wang Yao went in and saw a ghost lying on the back of the boss's desk, its hand outstretched forward. The table in front of it and under its fingertips were covered with deep scratch marks.

In front of the scratch marks was a red telephone, next to which were a black and a white telephone. It seemed that the ghost had gone mad and tried to smash the telephone but couldn't reach it, or perhaps it wanted to dial the telephone but unexpectedly entered a moderate state and lost its mind.

"Which number should I call?" Qin Su walked around the boss's desk and went to the deadbeat Director Zhu who was hunched over the desk. She was about to reach for the phone when she hesitated.

"Is there... any particular rule?" Wang Yao wasn't sure which number to play either.

"The red one is the reporting phone, which is called to the Lord of the Yellow Springs Path, but it can also be directly connected to the Lord Judge of the Tower. The white one is the coordination phone, which is called to the director of the same level."

"The black work phones are for calling the various task forces under my command. However, every phone can also be used to call the police station..."

Qin Su, as expected of someone who was in charge of ghost affairs, knew the purpose of the three telephones on the table like the back of her hand. However, she was afraid that using the red and white telephones would be a serious crime of usurpation. She was worried that if she used the black one, the police would think it was made by an ordinary ghost and wouldn't take it seriously.

"Use the red one and call Gu Qi directly," Wang Yao shouted.

"Who is Gu Qi? You... you seemed to have mentioned him just now." Qin Su looked at Wang Yao in astonishment.

“Gu Qi is the Lord Judge you mentioned,” Wang Yao said.

"Ah...I...I wouldn't dare..." Qin Su was startled and shook her head repeatedly.

"What time is it? Why are you still worried about this? You went to the police station, but by the time they came to check, the corpse aura would have already spread. Just notify Gu Qi directly; he'll make the arrangements quickly."

Wang Yao explained the priorities to her, and Qin Su calmed down after listening. After thinking for a moment, she picked up the red phone and pressed a button.

"Judge... Your Honor, I... I'm Qin Su from the Ghost Bureau, yes, I'm in the Energy Bureau... Director Zhu? Director Zhu is already suffering from severe corpse qi syndrome, how did I end up here...? Ah, I came with Wang Da... Wang Xian. Who is Wang Xian? Wang Xian is..."

Qin Su hesitated for a moment, probably because she didn't know how to introduce Wang Yao to Gu Qi. Fortunately, Gu Qi was quick-witted and guessed who Wang Xian was without Qin Su having to think of any words.

"Yes, yes, yes! Wang Xian was with a monk. When I was checking the lines, I sensed the aura of death and didn't have time to escape. Then... Wang Xian saved me... Ah? Oh, okay." Qin Su paused for a moment, and Wang Yao saw her hand the red phone to him from the black smoke.

"Your Honor, please answer the phone," Qin Su said.

Wang Yao thought to himself, "This Gu Qi is really something. The corpse energy is about to spread, and he's still thinking about fighting me. Let's hear what he has to say." He then stepped forward and took Qin Su's phone.
