"Isn't this what we should do? Looking across the six realms, which realm has more living beings than your underworld? If your underworld doesn't put in the effort, which realm will?" the fairy said irritably.
“The fairy is right, the fairy is right.” Gu Qi nodded repeatedly and led everyone out of the corridor. They were greeted by a large hall. On the right was a reception desk, and directly opposite the reception desk was a row of glass doors.
Wang Yao could see people and cars coming and going outside the door, but he didn't know where in the human world this was. Judging from their appearance and accents, it didn't seem to be Huadu, nor did it seem to be Zhidu.
He was mentally comparing the locations of various cities in the human world with the different areas on floor zero, trying to guess where this place should be. Meanwhile, Gu Qi had already led everyone directly through the hall and into another corridor directly opposite them.
The singing continued unabated from both sides of the corridor, clearly indicating that the karaoke room was doing very well. Suddenly, a guy pushed open a door and rushed out, covering his mouth with his hand and hurrying towards the bathroom. Another man was shouting and making a phone call in the corridor.
There was a small door next to the man, with a large white paper pasted on it that read "Office area, no customers allowed". Gu Qi walked over and pushed the door open. Wang Yao and the others filed in. The man who was facing the door and talking on the phone suddenly stopped talking and stared in astonishment.
He saw Wang Yao and Xiangu walk to the closed door, and without even raising their hands, the door opened by itself without any wind. The two walked straight through the door, and he could hardly believe his eyes.
As they entered, they found themselves facing an upward staircase. Gu Qi went up first, and behind him came a "Huh?" Wang Yao turned around and saw the man who had been on the phone push open the door, blinking and looking around with a puzzled expression.
Going up the stairs to the second floor, there was hardly any decoration. The hallway was lit, but there wasn't a single person in sight. Both doors were closed. It was supposed to be an office, but it seemed like no one was working there, a stark contrast to the bustling activity below.
Gu Qi walked down the corridor to the door in the far corner, and Wang Yao noticed a sign on the door frame that read "Restaurant (Women)". However, there was still a large white paper pasted on the door with the words "Drain clogged, please go upstairs to use the restroom" written on it.
"The women's restroom on this floor is actually upstairs; this one is just a nominal one," Gu Qi explained as he pushed open the restroom door. "I don't know what the Heavenly Court was thinking, that the interdimensional passage is always in these filthy places. It must have been a hardship for the Fairy Maiden."
"What's so strange about that?" The fairy pursed her lips. "When the six realms were discussing the location of the interdimensional passage in the early days, some old immortals and ghosts from our immortal realm and your underworld had forgotten what they were like when they were human. Or even if they remembered, they probably didn't have any latrines before they became immortals."
"They thought this kind of building was useless, so they suggested using it as an interdimensional passage. The person from the human realm who participated in the discussion was also a cunning fellow, so he deliberately kept quiet. Therefore, the early interdimensional passages of the human realm were almost all in this kind of place."
"Once everyone realized the inconvenience, new interdimensional passages were no longer built in places like this. There are many similar cases, such as interdimensional passages being too far away and inconvenient, like here, where passages to other realms could have been built right here in the room we came from,"
"But they just had to put it up here, as if it was made specifically for this outhouse. Why would a newly built cross-border passage be so complicated?"
"The newly built interdimensional passage is convenient for immortals, but it's too inconvenient for us ghosts. If we want to go to different floors, we still have to rely on the immortal realm teleportation array. How can we ghosts ride such a thing?" Gu Qi had a different opinion.
A few people squeezed into the bathroom and saw four squat toilets in a row on the left, each with a wooden door blocking the view.
“This is all your own fault,” the fairy said. “When you were building the Underworld Building, the Heavenly Court suggested that you build passageways inside the building to allow beings from the other five realms to go up and down, but you wouldn’t listen. You were afraid that the Heavenly Court would interfere with your Underworld’s internal affairs. Now that something has really happened, you’re complaining about the trouble.”
Fairy Maiden and Gu Qi were discussing the old stories of crossing the six realms, while Wang Yao and Wu Ying, who knew nothing about those ancient tales, could only listen from the sidelines.
Wang Yao thought to himself, "The three of us men and the fairy maiden sharing a women's restroom is quite indecent in the human world. Luckily, no one was loitering around outside, otherwise we might have been reported for being immoral."
Gu Qi was the first to push open the innermost wooden door. The big guy hunched over and squeezed inside. Wang Yao noticed that as soon as he entered the wooden door, he disappeared. He, Xiangu, and Wuying followed him inside.
Pushing open the wooden door, Wang Yao found himself in a place that resembled an office. At first glance, it was quite similar to Liu Fu's office, with a desk on the right, a figure of an immortal sitting behind it, and two sofa chairs with a coffee table between them on the left.
However, the banner on the wall was not the one from Liu Fu's place that read "People's livelihood is difficult," but rather four other large characters: "Diligence leads to mastery."
Upon seeing two immortals rushing in—a ghost general and a ghost head—the immortal hurriedly stood up.
"Is it because... um... Fairy Maiden, you've crossed over into another realm again?"
Just as the immortal was about to ask a question, he suddenly recognized the fairy maiden. He quickly put on a smile and greeted her with bows and scrapes.
"You bet! The trouble in the underworld this time is huge, it's keeping even the immortals incredibly busy," the fairy maiden complained, walking to the immortal table and looking around. "Where do I register?"
