"Military secrets, don't say another word." Yue Fei, who was walking in front, suddenly shouted. Gao Chong stuck out his tongue at Wang Yao and dared not say another word.
Looking at Gao Chong beside him, who was smug because his heroic deeds had been known to the immortals, Wang Yao thought of Yang Zaixing standing in the wind and snow below the city wall, Niu Gao, whose voice could only be heard but not seen, and the Yue brothers who were still fighting. Unconsciously, he suddenly felt his eyes well up with tears.
These once-powerful figures have long since vanished into the dust of history, yet now they appear alive in the realm of gods, still the Yue Family Army, still fighting on the battlefield. Whether they are praised or criticized after their deaths, what does it really matter to them?
Just as Yue Fei just said, they only knew how to be self-righteous and thought that what they were doing was right, so they did it recklessly. You can misunderstand or misinterpret it, but he did not defend himself and left it to future generations to judge.
Fortunately, a few poems have survived, allowing people to vaguely imagine that pure and noble heart, illuminating the pettiness deep within the hearts of those who came after.
"My Lady Fairy, what has happened in the Underworld that requires your help?" Yue Fei asked as he walked and talked with the Fairy.
"Sigh, don't say anymore, it's too troublesome..." The fairy maiden rambled on and on, explaining the great calamity of the underworld's corpse energy to Yue Fei. As they walked and talked, Wang Yao discovered that Wuling Pass was more like a fortress than a city.
Inside, one could see waves of busy soldiers. Some were forging weapons by the roaring fire, some were distributing and receiving provisions, and some were patrolling the area. When they saw Yue Fei and his entourage, the soldiers all showed excited expressions and wanted to pay their respects, but Yue Fei waved them off.
Before long, they arrived at a place that resembled a field hospital, where many wounded soldiers lay in rows of white tents.
Yue Fei apologized to the fairy maiden from time to time, went into the tent to visit the wounded, and consulted with the army doctor before continuing on with the fairy maiden. After passing through this field hospital, they found themselves surrounded by neatly arranged graves.
Upon arriving here, Yue Fei's face darkened. Without lingering, he led the fairy maiden and her party through a series of graves and continued onward.
“Look, once war breaks out, for every thousand enemies killed, eight hundred of our own are wounded. So we say that weapons are instruments of violence, and should only be used as a last resort. Your divine realm should really reflect on this.” The fairy maiden walked over here, a look of pity on her face, and said to Yue Fei.
“What the fairy says makes sense, but I also have some thoughts. I wonder if the fairy would like to hear them?” Yue Fei nodded and then asked the fairy.
"Oh? Tell me about it." The fairy looked at Yue Fei curiously.
"War is dangerous and cruel, as it has always been. Although everyone knew this before me, why have wars always been one after another since ancient times, without ever stopping for a moment? It's just that the tree wants to be still, but the wind won't stop. You don't want to fight, but someone is eyeing you covetously."
Yue Fei said calmly as he walked.
"So the saying 'forgetting war is dangerous' is true. When I came to the God Realm, I sometimes thought about this issue when I wasn't fighting. Fighting back and forth only leads to the suffering of all living beings. But can we not fight? Look from here onwards..." Yue Fei said, pointing forward with his big hand.
"The peaceful lives of countless gods and spirits across the vast land are all behind the front lines of the battle between gods and demons. Without the experience of the war between gods and demons, the fighting power of our divine realm will not be strong. If we do not fight for a long time, we will be safe and secure, but once the demons attack, we will be stretched thin and overwhelmed."
"So sometimes, we really can't just put away our weapons and let our horses graze. Only through battle can we deter those restless guys, train our troops and improve their combat effectiveness. More importantly, only by seeing blood can we prevent the fighting spirit of the gods from being lost."
"What is courage? It is the willingness to be shattered to pieces to bite off a piece of the invaders' flesh, the willingness to die to protect women and children, the willingness to die standing rather than beg for life on one's knees. This kind of courage cannot be cultivated without experiencing life-and-death battles time and time again."
As Yue Fei spoke, he turned to look at the tents behind him, their tents glowing with a hazy yellow light in the wind and snow.
"Having courage is not enough; you also need to learn how to fight. If you only know how to charge forward with brute force when you see your comrades sacrifice themselves, you will only end up losing another life in vain. To remain calm even when Mount Tai collapses in front of you requires the experience of fighting life and death time and time again."
"So this war isn't a question of whether we want to fight or not. Of course, I hope that the six realms are at peace, that all living beings can live and work in peace and contentment, that war becomes a distant thing, and that everyone even forgets how to fight. But is that possible?"
"When you have no military strength but talk about peace, that's not peace, that's begging. No one will take it seriously. I've read some research articles about the fall of the Song Dynasty, and some of them are really infuriating."
"For example, some people say that the Song Dynasty made mistakes in its policy towards the Mongol Yuan Dynasty, which led to the country's demise. But they never consider whether the powerful Mongol Yuan Dynasty could tolerate a weak Song Dynasty lying at its doorstep for long. It doesn't make any sense at all, yet they write history like that..."
"This is truly misleading young people," Yue Fei said, shaking his head repeatedly.
Wang Yao nodded silently. Regardless of whether Yue Fei's remarks about war were right or wrong, he knew that there were many different versions of the story about Yue Fei being killed by the emperor.
Many opinions suggest that Yue Fei's arrogance and disregard for the emperor led the emperor to decide to kill him. Some have even gone so far as to remove Yue Fei's deeds from history books, relying on dubious reasoning that completely disregards the facts of that historical period.
