Chapter 199 The Front Lines

"What the Old Man of the Moon says is true." Eunuch Wei hurriedly turned to Wang Yao, bowed, and then turned back to look coldly at the ghost.

"Get up now! If it weren't for the Old Man of the Moon pleading for you, I would have already killed you with one blow, you wretched ghost."

"You're just a spineless, overly kind person. If you had just let that ghost warrior clear the way with his whip, there wouldn't be all this mess. And you're even pleading for the ghost? You're the one wasting time." The fairy maiden couldn't stand it anymore and couldn't help but push Wang Yao in his wheelchair, scolding him.

"Uh..." Wang Yao actually felt that he was being a bit fussy, but he still couldn't bear to watch the ghost warrior whipping the ghost. Now that he heard the fairy complaining, he didn't know what to say.

"Hehe, please don't be offended, Fairy. The Old Man of the Moon is indeed a kind-hearted bodhisattva. Look at all the ghosts in this building. Who among them didn't come from the Five Realms? They were once fathers and mothers, sons and daughters, husbands and wives. Even if they were animals, they still went through a cycle of reincarnation."

“In their past lives, weren’t they all loved by their parents, filial by their children, and loving by their spouses? Yet in the underworld, they have become so miserable. It is only natural that the Old Man of the Moon cannot bear it.”

"Even according to the principle of equality among all beings in the underworld, we shouldn't beat or scold them, nor should we say anything harsh. We should always do things willingly and voluntarily. But now we are facing a critical moment in our tribulation, and we in the underworld have no choice but to do this."

But then Eunuch Wei turned to the fairy and said...

"You damned eunuch, you're not completely clueless about things, are you? Then why did you kill that ghost warrior just now?" the fairy said with a sneer.

“I understand the principles, but I also understand the deeper meaning of those principles. For example, Fairy Maiden, you come from the Celestial Realm, so you are naturally much more noble than your servant. Why? Because your celestial body could burn this old servant alive.”

"The truth of this matter is that it comes down to who has the stronger fist. Today, I am the Ghost Lord, and I can kill that Ghost Scholar with a flick of my hand. He disrespected me, so killing him is the only right thing to do. If I don't kill him, it would be my mercy. But who knows what that Ghost Scholar is thinking?"

"He was probably cursing me in his heart for being a bluffing eunuch. That's how I am as a ghost; I'd rather have a quick death than be slandered by those wicked ghosts behind my back."

"But now that the Old Man of the Moon has spoken, this matter is no longer between us and that wicked ghost, but between us and the immortal. Since we cannot bear to see the wicked ghost disrespect us, how can we not respect the immortal?"

“So, since the immortal forbids me from killing, of course I can’t kill him.” Eunuch Wei said with a smile, giving a bunch of reasons. The fairy snorted but didn’t say anything more.

Sitting in his wheelchair, Wang Yao listened to Eunuch Wei's words and unknowingly broke out in a cold sweat. This world isn't actually afraid of those who can't distinguish right from wrong and commit evil deeds. There are all sorts of methods to deal with them. Those guys will learn their lesson after suffering losses and naturally won't do it again.

What's truly frightening are those who seem to understand all the道理 (principles/reasons), yet have their own set of logic and rules for doing things. Once these people start doing evil, they become so self-righteous that they lose all sense of awe and consider any evil deed as justifiable.

Even if they suffer losses, they will not be deterred; instead, they will become even more ruthless and persistent, committing even greater evils.

The three walked forward for a while and arrived at a screening point. The ghosts in the queue were screened again here, re-lined, and continued on their way.

Upon seeing Eunuch Wei, the ghosts at the screening point dared not be negligent. They hurriedly stopped everything they were doing and arranged for another ghost to lead Wang Yao and the other two to the command center of the Dao Lord of the Samsara Path.

Since the flow of ghosts was interrupted here, the corridor suddenly became empty. Led by the guiding ghost, the three of them once again used speed spells and soon turned into a room on the side of the corridor. This room was originally supposed to be a hallway, because there were two doors inside leading to other places.

The room was now crammed with ghosts. The walls were covered with screens of all sizes, and the telephones rang incessantly. Some ghosts were making loud phone calls, while others were nervously watching the screens.

"Dean, I guarantee there are absolutely no spirits at intersection number seven. Look, look, go over and add some shields. I'll send two more geniuses over here, and that should stabilize the situation."

Wang Yao saw that the Dao Master of the Samsara Dao was pointing at a display screen and speaking to Dean Li of the Taiqing Immortal City General Hospital.

"Lord Dao, it's not that I don't trust you, but the spirits come and go without a trace. Your display screen doesn't have the function of searching for spirits. If I go there and encounter a spirit, and it inhabits me, it will harm not only myself but also all of you."

Dean Li shook his head vigorously, like a rattle-drum.

"I just spoke with them on the phone. None of the ghosts there detected the presence of the essence. Dean Li, I beg you, once the protective shield disappears, even if I have a lot of ghosts, it won't be enough to fill the gap!" the Lord of the Samsara Path said urgently.

"I remember the time. We just added one lap. There's still a while before the time is up. Let's see what happens," Dean Li said, shaking his head dismissively.

Wang Yao looked at the display screen, which showed what appeared to be the situation at Exit 7. The angle was from above, looking down at the screen. Waves of ghosts were rushing forward with their backs to the camera. A low-level corpse puppet with two heads and four arms was in front of the camera, killing ghosts as they came, and was extremely ferocious.

There seemed to be other corpse puppets next to that low-level corpse puppet, but they were out of the monitoring range, so only parts of their limbs could be seen. Wang Yao could tell from their shapes that they were low-level corpse puppets, but he didn't see the Minions.
