Li Kui was unaware that Wang Yao had exchanged a meaningful smile with the fairy as he spoke. This was the first pretext prepared for Li Kui; if the true culprit of the great calamity could not be caught, the responsibility would ultimately fall on this guy.
"Since you know our team's mission is to capture the real culprit behind the major robbery, what are you still babbling about here for? Instead of doing the important work, are you doing your own thing?"
Although Li Kui couldn't bring himself to hit her, he still had to maintain the appearance of a leader. The fairy's status and position were obvious, and he dared not point fingers at her. The matchmaker in front of him wasn't even a section chief; he was several ranks below him and was the very person he was supposed to be leading.
If I don't take care of him, who will?
"Uh... Director Li, I'm not doing this on my own. I'm carrying out a mission assigned by the Heavenly Court." Wang Yao hurriedly explained.
You can't fall out with this guy; you have to appease him. After all, he has over a hundred brothers in the Demon Realm. Falling out with him would have too many consequences, and he'd have to take the blame, but you still have to put on a good show for him.
"A solo mission? Is this also our team's mission?" Li Kui frowned as he looked at the fairy.
Wang Yao was about to fool him, but unexpectedly, the fairy didn't think of so many things and spoke directly.
"No, that was his matchmaking task, arranged separately by the Heavenly Court."
"That's still a side job!" Li Kui's eyes widened immediately. "Both leaders of the squad are here, and you're still thinking about doing side jobs? Don't you have any manners? Drop everything you're doing and go arrest the real culprit of this major robbery!"
The fairy was dumbfounded. She couldn't understand whether Li Kui was really as principled as Wang Yao said, or whether he was deliberately picking on Wang Yao. Their mission had no time limit, and Wang Yao could complete his own mission on the side, even if it was just doing some personal work. There was nothing wrong with that.
She was eager to return home and didn't mind waiting a bit, but she didn't expect Li Kui to ask Wang Yao to stop right away. Judging from Wang Yao's attitude, things must have reached a critical moment, and it's not something that can be stopped just like that.
"Little Li, don't be so strict. The matchmaking mission and the team mission are all, in the end, Heavenly Court missions. Let me finish what I have to do first," the fairy hurriedly advised.
“You, Fairy, are too high above to know what’s going on down there. These wicked immortals don’t do their jobs properly. They just kill time at work and steal moments to do their own thing. I’ve seen this a lot at the Administration Bureau. You have to keep a close eye on these wicked immortals. If you loosen your grip even a little, they’ll lose all sense of direction.”
Li Kui turned to the fairy and said.
Wang Yao heard Li Kui's words and cursed inwardly. He also began to regret recommending Li Kui to the fairy. Putting aside other issues, this guy's arrival would make things much more troublesome for him.
The fairy there shook her head inwardly when she heard Li Kui's words. She knew that this man was not very bright. He had sold out his original unit in just a few words. Wasn't he clearly saying that his director was mismanaging the company?
Thinking of this, she couldn't help but become more vigilant. This kid was a hothead; what if he ended up not taking the blame but instead spreading rumors about her?
The fairy maiden had a reservation in her heart. She originally wanted to say a few more words on behalf of Wang Yao, but she swallowed the words back.
“Well… Director Li is right, we really can’t do private jobs. It’s disorganized and undisciplined. So… how about this, when the Heavenly Court asks about it later, I’ll just say that it was Director Li who forbade it. Is that alright?” Seeing that the fairy was silent, Wang Yao could only put on a smiling face and said to Li Kui.
"We little immortals are leaders in Heaven, so it's hard to explain if they keep asking us questions."
"Who arranged this for you? Your Director Lü?" Li Kui asked, frowning.
“It’s not our Lu Xian. The leader who assigned this task, she… speaking of which, she’s now in the same team as us. She’s Fairy Caixia, the deputy director of the Planning Division of the Heavenly Court’s Prosperity and Development Bureau,” Wang Yao said with a smile.
"Who? Who did you say?" Li Kui's eyes widened again. There weren't many immortals in the Heavenly Court who didn't know Fairy Caixia. She had both good looks and a powerful background. She was the dream girl of countless bachelor immortals, and Li Kui was no exception.
Upon hearing that Wang Yao's mission was arranged by Caixia, and even more so that Caixia was actually a member of the team, his heart immediately started pounding.
"Since this is a task assigned to you by Fairy Caixia, hurry up and complete it. Stop nagging. What does it matter if you love an old woman or not? If anyone keeps whining, my boss's axe will come down and solve all the trouble."
Li Kui glared coldly at the others in the room, not even sparing the Three-Headed Ghost King. Then, however, he pulled the fairy maiden along.
"Come out, I have something to say to you." Li Kui said, and walked out of the room first. The fairy, not knowing what was going on, followed him out. Li Kui didn't go far, but stood by the door and turned to look at the fairy.
"Captain He, I don't know what's going on with this team member list. Why did they put in some worthless junk? Isn't this just delaying things?" Li Kui said, tilting his head towards the room to indicate that the junk he was referring to was Wang Yao.
"Since he's already been put in, let's just treat him like a nobody. If there's something like serving tea and water or running errands, just ask him to do it. But how can you let him know beforehand, when I don't even know who our team members are?"
"Think about it, once Fairy Caixia joins the team, what if I still think she's an outsider and offend her without careful speech? Wouldn't that be terrible? Our team needs to establish some rules. You can keep this information, and we can get that information from Fairy Caixia and me..."
