Before he could run more than a few steps, a red arm suddenly appeared behind him. The arm was as fast as lightning, arriving behind Wang Yao in the blink of an eye. A large, crimson hand, almost the same size as Wang Yao, with its five fingers spread, reached out to grab Wang Yao's body.
Although Wang Yao didn't have eyes in the back of his head, his trained senses were able to detect the danger approaching from behind in time. With a sudden effort, he threw Hui Shuo's body forward.
Immediately afterward, the large hand grabbed Wang Yao, but unexpectedly, Wang Yao only struggled slightly and broke free from the large hand's grasp. He rushed forward and picked up Hui Shuo again.
"Lord Yue Lao, it seems you are also one of the Zhang Huang clan, joining Tong Xuan in plotting against our clan?" The giant hand missed its target, but then suddenly grew much larger, its five fingers outstretched, blocking Wang Yao's path.
"I have nothing to do with the Zhang Huang clan, so don't spout nonsense!" Wang Yao stared at the large hand poised to strike in front of him, glanced sideways at the long red arm that seemed ready to sweep across at any moment, and shouted loudly.
“Blood mouth… If you have nothing to hide, why are you running away?” Lady Lian asked.
"You almost killed my son! If I don't run, my son will be gone!" Wang Yao shouted. He had a "good guy" protecting him, so leaving on his own was no problem, but he felt completely uncertain about protecting Hui Shuo and getting them out safely as well.
"Son? This monk is your son? And you still say that the Zhang Huang clan has nothing to do with you?" Unexpectedly, upon hearing Wang Yao's words, Lady Lian was furious and slapped him on the head. Wang Yao was so frightened that he quickly threw Hui Shuo aside, rolled on the ground, and picked Hui Shuo up again.
Just as the large hand was about to strike Wang Yao, it suddenly slid to the side and missed. At the same time, another arm reached out, and two large hands were raised high towards Wang Yao, one on the left and one on the right.
"You're such an unreasonable woman! I've told you long ago that my son isn't a member of the Zhang Huang clan! He's not a member of the Zhang Huang clan! But you just wouldn't listen!" Wang Yao shouted angrily.
"He's the deputy envoy of the Zhang-Huang special envoy group, not a member of the Zhang-Huang clan? How could he possibly be a deputy envoy?" Lady Lian demanded sharply.
"That's Zhang Huangzu Langshuai's scheme! It's like I asked you to pretend to be my wife, just because you did it and you're not a man, does that mean you're really my wife?" Wang Yao's neck veins bulged.
He could barely defend himself against Lady Lian with one hand, but if she attacked with both hands, Hui Shuo would be finished.
"Let me make this clear: if you dare to harm my son today without distinguishing right from wrong, I will fight your entire clan to the death!" Wang Yao shouted angrily.
"What do you mean, 'my son'? It's all a jumbled mess that I can't understand. Hehe, it's not impossible for me to be your wife, but there's no need for me to pretend."
Unexpectedly, Lady Lian was pleased instead of angry when she heard Wang Yao's words. She pulled one arm back and put the other arm on the ground, which turned into a step that led all the way up to Lady Lian's tall body.
“If you really have nothing to do with the Zhang Huang clan, then come up here yourselves. I won’t make things difficult for you and your son now. We’ll investigate today’s events first. If you’re determined to escape, my Yi clan isn’t easily intimidated. It’s no big deal if we fight to the death right now.”
Although Madam Lian's voice had softened considerably, her tone remained resolute, indicating that there was no room for further discussion.
“Going with you is no problem for me, but my son is just a mortal, a mere mortal. You can knock him unconscious with just a word. If he stays with you, he probably won’t live for long. So you might as well just do it now.” Wang Yao shook his head repeatedly.
"Don't worry, since I don't want him to die, he won't die. Besides, if you don't listen to me, what other way do you have to go?" Lady Lian asked coldly.
"I... fine, I'll trust you this once. But if anything happens to my son, let me tell you, I have plenty of ways to deal with you!" Wang Yao thought about it and realized that if he insisted on running away, Hui Shuo would surely die. Staying with Madam Lian, he still had a sliver of hope for survival.
He had no choice but to threaten Lady Lian again before Wang Yao picked up Hui Shuo and walked up the red steps toward Lady Lian.
"Don't worry, I'm going to be your wife, so I won't hurt this adopted son... Huh? What's that?" As Lady Lian spoke, her tone suddenly changed, and the entire staircase began to shake.
"Hey! Be careful!" Wang Yao stumbled and almost fell, but luckily he used "Immortal Travel" in time to stabilize himself in mid-air. Then he found another step and continued to climb.
“My children, the Zhang Huang Clan killed my Sleeping Guards and invaded my Little Sparrow City. The Zhang Huang Clan’s special envoy, the old thief Tongxuan, even fled Mother City.”
"Zhang Huang's actions have completely torn up the peace agreement with my Yi clan. I hereby order that the sleeping guards be awakened immediately, and that two guards from each city be sent out to join me in punishing Zhang Huang!"
As the words were spoken, Lady Lian's body continued to move, but fortunately the steps continued to extend steadily upwards.
Wherever Wang Yao went, the corresponding parts of Lady Lian's body would immediately change slightly, making the originally steep, even 90-degree vertical steps more gentle, allowing Wang Yao to climb over Lady Lian's long arms step by step, stumbling and falling, and stand on her shoulder.
The shoulders were indeed flat and broad. Wang Yao breathed a sigh of relief and was about to look around when a roar like a tsunami suddenly erupted around him.
Startled, Wang Yao quickly looked down to check on Hui Shuo in his arms and found that he had probably fainted. His complexion had returned to normal and was no longer as pale as before. Only then did Wang Yao's tense mood relax a little.
