Chapter 350 Swamp of Sorrow

"Come sit on Daddy's back. Don't be afraid. This Swamp of Sorrows may be eerie, but it's not likely to kill us both," Ao Guang comforted Wang Yao.

Wang Yao climbed onto Ao Guang's back, and the two swam forward in the water, one above the other, slowly entering the depths of Ghost Lake.

After regaining his dragon form, Ao Guang's back was incredibly broad. Although most of his body was submerged underwater, Wang Yao could sit on it without his feet getting wet.

As he watched the dark, fire-scorched trees in the lake recede one by one, Wang Yao unconsciously recalled the words Xi Fu had spoken to him before his death in the Zhenxie Prison.

Xi Fu said that the thing he regretted most in his life was that he relied too much on the interface panel and the Matchmaker system, which made it difficult for him to make any further progress after reaching the Nascent Soul stage.

At this moment, Wang Yao still didn't know whether he couldn't use the system because it had been shut down or because of the influence of the Sorrowful Swamp, but without the aid of immortal techniques, he was already somewhat at a loss.

What would happen if I relied on the system to advance to the Golden Core stage, or even the Nascent Soul stage? At that point, the system would no longer help me advance, and I probably wouldn't be much stronger than Xi Fu, right?

It seems that although the system is easy to use, it is definitely not a good thing. It is addictive if you use it too much, and the aftereffects of quitting are particularly severe.

Once you become addicted to dependency, it becomes a powerful limitation. It's like being addicted to a washing machine; you'll never wash clothes without it. Or you'll be addicted to liquefied gas; even if you have a pile of firewood, you can starve to death with just matches and a pot of raw rice.

In the human and underworld realms today, who wouldn't panic if water, electricity, and gas were cut off? Little do they know how few years humans and ghosts have actually used water, electricity, and gas?

Perhaps one day, if water, electricity, and gas are cut off, it could even lead to the extinction of humanity and the underworld. Addiction and dependence are not necessarily alarmist.

Wang Yao was sitting on Ao Guang's back, lamenting the passing of spring and autumn, worrying about the future of both the human and underworld realms, when suddenly a chill ran down his spine, and a coldness crept into his heart. He turned his head and was horrified to find a large face staring at him from beneath the water's surface, with a pair of round eyes.

In that instant, he was so terrified that he collapsed onto Ao Guang's back.

"There are people in the water... there are people in the water!" Wang Yao cried out in terror.

"Where?" Ao Guang's big head floated to the surface of the water.

"It's...it's right there...and it's...it's gone down again!" Wang Yao shouted, pointing into the water, only to see the large face with a strange smile slowly sinking into the water.

"Don't be afraid. Ghost Lake is full of vengeful spirits and phantoms. Just ignore them." Ao Guang shook his head, explained, and continued forward.

Wang Yao looked up and was astonished to find that many vengeful spirits, similar to those he had just seen in the water, had unknowingly emerged from the surrounding black forest.

There was a guy with half his body submerged in the water, leaning against a big tree, holding a wet head in his right hand, and constantly bringing it to his bald neck.

The guy pressed his head against his neck, seemingly trying to straighten it, but whether it was because some part was missing or there was no mirror for reference, he seemed never to be satisfied. After fiddling with it for a long time, he finally let go, and his head slipped off his neck again.

The head that had fallen into the water and was quickly pulled out seemed to notice that Wang Yao was looking at it. It suddenly looked at Wang Yao and grinned. Wang Yao's heart skipped a beat, and he quickly looked away.

Another burly man in armor floated on the water, looking no different from a normal person, except that he kept his hands covering his left and right chests, and he kept looking down at the water as if searching for something.

When Wang Yao saw him suddenly let go, two streams of water shot out from his chest like fountains. It turned out that there were two fist-sized holes on the left and right sides of his chest, which probably led all the way to the water. Otherwise, where would his broken body get so much water?

The big man was probably looking for something to plug the hole in his chest. When he saw usable materials in the water, he quickly let go of his hands that were covering his chest and went to retrieve them.

As a result, a large amount of water immediately gushed out of the hole in his chest. He had to pull his hand back to plug it up, and could only watch helplessly as the contents of the water gushed out.

There was also a blind guy who put his hand in his mouth and kept fiddling with it. After a while, he pulled out a black and white eyeball. He immediately put the eyeball back in his eye and then kept blinking.

Sure enough, after only a few blinks, the eyeball disappeared again, and then the guy started reaching into his mouth again.

As Ao Guang swam deeper and deeper into the Ghost Lake, the black trees on the lake gradually became denser, and the vengeful spirits drew closer and closer to them. In the end, they were practically walking among the vengeful spirits.

Having seen many of these, Wang Yao calmed down. Most of these vengeful spirits were dressed as warriors and were generally busy with their own affairs, ignoring Wang Yao and his companions. It was extremely rare to find a vengeful spirit that could smile at them even after its head had been chopped off.

However, for some unknown reason, the vengeful spirits deep within Ghost Lake were no longer quiet; they were able to open their mouths and speak.

"Sleep, sleep, eternal sleep is happiness." A vengeful spirit floating on the water sang this over and over in a melodious tune.

"To be or not to be, that is the question." Two vengeful spirits whispered to each other as they waded through the water beside them.

"Let the storm rage on!" A naked, obese vengeful spirit, with its hands raised high, ran back and forth in the water in front of Ao Guang's head.

"Ao Xian, what are you doing here? Go back quickly, it's dangerous here!" Suddenly a woman's voice rang out above Wang Yao and the others. Wang Yao looked up and saw a female vengeful spirit dressed in palace attire floating above them like a cloud, her expression extremely anxious.
