Chapter 356 The Wildfire

Once Wang Yao regained his mobility, naked as a newborn, the first thing he did was pick up the clothes at his feet and put them on. Before he could even reflect on how many basic immortal techniques he had mastered, another trial mission was issued.

"Congratulations on advancing to Qi Refining. The Trial of Gods and Demons has begun. The Trial of Gods and Demons during the Qi Refining stage requires you to survive, prevent inferior demons from entering the God Realm and multiplying, and endure for thirty days to complete the trial and fix your Qi Refining stage. Otherwise, you will fail."

The emotionless voice had barely finished speaking when Wang Yao, still pondering that he was only at the Qi Refining stage, suddenly lost his footing again and was thrown into the God and Demon Realm once more.

This time, he was surrounded by an endless grassland, the grass knee-deep. As Wang Yao stood there and looked around, he suddenly discovered that he could actually see what was behind his head. This discovery filled him with immense joy.

He quickly focused his mind and then noticed that, centered on where he stood, his field of vision extended outward in a 360-degree arc without any blind spots. As long as spiritual energy was continuously supplied, this field of vision could extend outward indefinitely.

"This...this is what sensing is?"

Wang Yao pondered in disbelief, but he had no time to study it in detail. His "sensory perception" had not extended far before he saw the group of black creatures again. They were like a group of stealthy hunters, rapidly approaching him from the grass.

In order to buy time for "Fire Control" to be cast, Wang Yao hurriedly increased the distance between himself and the group of black creatures. When he actually started running, Wang Yao found that the group of black creatures were not moving very fast, and their speed was even slightly slower than his own without the enhancement of immortal magic.

He changed direction as he ran, moving to the side of the direction the black creature was heading, while silently reciting the mission prompts in his mind.

The mission had two requirements. The first was to prevent the demons from multiplying in the realm of the gods, which suggested that the player was currently in the realm of the gods, and that these black creatures had come to multiply. The second requirement was to survive for thirty days.

Between the two, the second task is obviously more important. It requires one to live in the God Realm for thirty days. Whether or not one can stop the proliferation of demons is relatively secondary. It would be best if one could stop them, but if one cannot, as long as one survives for thirty days, one can probably stabilize at the Qi Refining stage.

In any case, having just mastered the immortal technique "Fire Control," he was determined to give it a try. After the trial, he would decide whether to hide or run away later.

As Wang Yao ran, his "sensing" followed him like a shadow. He had already arrived at the left side of the black creatures' group. The black creatures did not notice Wang Yao's presence and continued to roll forward according to their own inertia.

The roles of hunter and prey had now been reversed. Wang Yao crept through the grass, quietly approaching the black creature. Although he had tested his "Fire Control" in the God and Demon Forging Ground, he did not know the attack range of "Fire Control," so he could only get as close to the demons as possible.

500 meters, 400 meters, 300 meters... The distance kept getting shorter, but the monsters remained oblivious, just hurrying along. As they got closer, Wang Yao could even hear their chirping sounds, like birdsong.

100 meters, 90 meters... Wang Yao further shortened the distance. The cave in the God and Demon Forging Ground was only about ten square meters. Wang Yao was still not very confident in performing immortal arts from a distance of tens of meters.

The grass was so tall it covered everything, but Wang Yao's senses were firmly locked onto the demons that were hurriedly crawling along the grass roots. He suddenly noticed that one of the demons had stopped. This demon had a round head. It stood there and looked around for a while, then suddenly used its limbs to dig at the ground.

Soon, a small pit was dug out from the grass roots. The monster leaped into the pit, and the soil continued to fly around. In no time, the monster disappeared, leaving only an inconspicuous mud pit on the ground.

"This is... left behind by the demons to reproduce?" Wang Yao wondered, and couldn't help but bend down and hide in the grass as he took a few more steps forward.

The advancing army of demons suddenly stopped abruptly, their bird-like cacophony vanishing instantly. One by one, they quietly turned around in the grass, their eyes—some innocent, some childish, some sinister, some cold—all fixed on Wang Yao, who was stealthily approaching.

Being stared at by the diverse eyes of thousands of black creatures in the grass was truly a chilling sight. Wang Yao felt a cold sweat run down his spine and began chanting "Controlling Fire" without hesitation.

With a series of chilling shrieks, the black creatures suddenly erupted into chaos, surging towards Wang Yao like a tidal wave.

Wang Yao initially felt that their speed wasn't that great, but when they actually rushed towards him, he realized that these guys were coming too fast.

The key is that the distance between them is not far to begin with. How many seconds would it take to travel forty or fifty meters? Wang Yao saw that the leading monster looked like a hedgehog. All the black spikes around its head were sticking out, and its small mouth was wide open, revealing its dazzling white teeth.

Wang Yao had experimented in the cave; if he moved during the chanting, the magic would be interrupted. So he could only grit his teeth and chant while watching the demon get closer and closer to him...

Suddenly, the hedgehog monster leaped up and landed on the grass. It drew a graceful arc in the air and headed straight for Wang Yao, who was bending over and chanting with his buttocks sticking out.

Dozens, even hundreds, of black shadows rose up around and behind the hedgehog monster. The monsters in front leaped out of the grass and launched a fierce attack on Wang Yao.
