The man stared wide-eyed in disbelief at his son's actions.
Immediately afterwards, the other two girls beside the woman also threw stones into the third circle, just like the boy.
"Xiaomei, do you know what you're doing? That third circle is where everyone is holding the village together! You're not mistaken, are you?" the man shouted anxiously.
"I know!" The woman threw the stone in her hand into the third circle without hesitation.
"You...you...what did you just say to Xiaoyong?" The man stared at his wife, who was still standing at the edge of the circle with their three children, as if he didn't recognize her.
"I asked him if it would be good to find him another new father. If it's good, we'll put him in one of the other two circles; if not, we'll put him in a third. Your son made the decision himself," the woman said calmly, her words eliciting laughter from the surrounding villagers.
"What...what nonsense are you spouting?" The man was somewhat embarrassed and angry at the laughter of those around him.

"But if you go and fight the demons to the death, how could we, your mother and children, possibly abandon you and hide away? We are family; we live together, and we die together!"
The woman's impassioned words silenced all the villagers for a moment. The man looked at his wife, murmured a couple of times, then strode forward and threw the stone in his hand into the third circle. Wang Yao noticed that he was already in tears.
"Mr. Zuo... Mr. Zuo, our whole family has decided to stay in the village, unless... unless we all leave together." The man said this hastily to Mr. Zuo, then turned around and led his wife and children away quickly.
