Wang Yao walked for a long time. The houses on both sides of the street gradually became sparse, making it less convenient to hide. However, he could tell that this was the edge of the demon city. The warriors around him were still endless, stretching all the way to the edge of the distant wilderness.
This army, in which every soldier looked, acted, dressed, and wielded the same weapon, gave Wang Yao a sense of absurdity, as if he were in a nightmare, or as if his eyes were seeing very serious hallucinations.
He stopped and steadied himself. The rain was still falling. Ahead lay a long stretch of road without any buildings to provide shelter, a dark wasteland stretching as far as the eye could see. If he went any further, it would be difficult to avoid being spotted by these strange warriors. After thinking for a moment, he retreated and slipped into the nearest narrow alley.
After passing through the narrow alley, he changed his direction slightly. The purpose of this demon army could only be to fight against the gods, so Wang Yao could guess the approximate location of the divine realm by their destination.
If he keeps a certain distance from this army but travels in the same direction as them, he should be able to reach the battlefield where the gods and demons are fighting.
Following his plan, Wang Yao quietly slipped out from the other side of the demon city. His position was perfect, allowing him to monitor the advancing demon army while ensuring he remained completely out of the demon warriors' sight.
Fortunately, this great demon city had no walls or other obstacles. Behind Wang Yao was a row of silent houses in the darkness, and in front of him was a dark wilderness. It seemed that leaving the city was just a matter of walking forward. However, he had only taken a few steps when his expression suddenly changed.
Wang Yao quickly turned around and retreated along the same route. Using the shadows of the houses on both sides, he retreated through several narrow alleys before hurriedly crouching down in the shadow of a two-story wooden building, nervously staring at the direction he had come from.
A short while later, two figures, one in black and one in white, appeared at the entrance of the alley not far from Wang Yao. They looked around, seemingly searching for something.
"Are you sure you saw it?" a voice asked.
"Can't you sense it yourself? There was clearly a shadow flash by just now," another voice replied, its tone strange, clearly a foreign accent.
"Did you come from our realm and get scared out of your wits by the Mahayana? I didn't see anything." The voice asked with a hint of disdain.
"Lang Ren, as a locust, if you dare to speak to me in that tone again, I'll make you suffer a terrible death," the foreign-accented man coldly threatened.
"As a locust, I must remind you that the city is now a chaotic mess of all sorts of people. Even if you did see something, it's perfectly normal. And if anything is amiss, it's none of your business."
"Our mission is to prevent anything from coming in from outside, not to abandon our posts for some ghost in the city. If you delay your boss's business, you'll die a horrible death!" Lang Ren showed no fear whatsoever.
The foreigner stared at Lang Ren for a while, perhaps feeling that what he said made some sense. He then glanced suspiciously at the place where Wang Yao was hiding a few more times before turning around and leaving on his own. Lang Ren followed silently behind.
After the two left, Wang Yao remained prostrate in the same spot for a long time before standing up. He returned to the city's main street. The rain had stopped, but the army of demon warriors on the street showed no signs of decreasing. Wang Yao turned around and began to walk in the opposite direction from the demon warriors.
We can now make some judgments. First, darkness here is probably the norm. No matter what time it was when Wang Yao arrived, it should be daytime by now, but the city is still completely dark, as if the night has no end.
But where have all the city's residents gone? Logically speaking, in such a large city, with no distinction between day and night, there should be some residents moving around. Besides, didn't Langren say that the city was a chaotic mix of various ethnic groups?
Why is it that, apart from the identical-looking demon warriors on the streets and Lang Ren and Yang Shen whom Wang Yao just encountered, there are no other demons in the entire city? This city is so strange. Aren't all those densely packed houses meant for living in?
The other is the rebels who escaped from the demon realm and that group of foreign gods. Sure enough, they entered the demon realm and seem to be carrying out some grand conspiracy. Wang Yao certainly cannot take this lightly and must investigate it thoroughly.
Finally, Wang Yao had a rough estimate in his mind. The "Changing Seas and Changing Fields" spell that the Sea-Filling God had cast on him must have contained time magic. He felt that tens of millions of years had passed, but the actual time was probably not like that. Although it was more than thirty days, it was definitely not too long.
After all, his Qi Refining stage mission would only be considered complete after more than thirty days. The reason it wouldn't be too long was that it made no sense that even after tens of millions of years, Teacher Luo and the others would still be refining, especially since Lang Ren's appearance hadn't changed much and his voice was still very young.
Wang Yao was well aware of his own cultivation level. He had never heard of any Foundation Establishment stage immortal who could live for ten thousand years. Even the Nascent Soul stage immortal couldn't do that. The fact that he was still alive and well meant that time hadn't passed as long as he thought.
While he breathed a sigh of relief, he also became determined to find out what the foreign god and the demon rebels were doing in the demon realm, and perhaps even take advantage of this forging opportunity to destroy them.
Following the main road, Wang Yao walked against the direction of the demon army's advance for a while, passing through the narrow alley where he had first emerged, and then walked a long way forward, where he saw two tall demon statues appearing in the distance at the end of the street.
