“If the divine realm and I cannot guarantee the safety of my parents, Buddhism will send other protectors, but… but Buddhism… Buddhism does not want to antagonize the Six Realms and the Ocean Realm…”
"So...so I have been appointed by my master as my parents' chief protector, and I am actually shouldering the heavy responsibility of resolving the conflict between Buddhism and the Six Realms and the Ocean Realm," Hui Shuo said anxiously.
"The revival of Buddhism? What does the revival of Buddhism have to do with me?" Hui Shuo's words stunned Wang Yao.
Buddhism is a unique entity. It is independent of the Six Realms and the Ocean Realm, yet its influence has penetrated deeply into both realms. In Wang Yao's mind, Buddhism should be impartial in its relationship with the Six Realms and the Ocean Realm.
After all, Buddhism has deep roots in the Western Realm, and the earliest Buddhist disciples were born there. However, the Six Realms are where Buddhism is most prosperous now. For example, Xiangyun City in the Human Realm is basically a Buddhist city, and the power of the Buddhas there has even surpassed that of the Heavenly Court.
Although Buddhism is not very popular in the Western world nowadays, there has been no news of Buddhism being suppressed there. This is because Buddhism promotes the idea of being kind to others and being patient in order to gain blessings in the next life. Moreover, Buddhism has always maintained a low-key and cooperative attitude towards those in charge in the Western world, and its aggressiveness is almost zero.
Therefore, both the Heavenly Court and the Ocean Realm turn a blind eye to the infiltration of Buddhism into their respective realms. To put it bluntly, Buddhist teachings are conducive to social harmony and have many positive effects on the stability of the realm.
Since Buddhism can survive and thrive in both the Ocean Realm and the Six Realms, there is no need to favor one over the other. Now that the Buddhist Kingdom is actually coming to protect Wang Yao's safety, Wang Yao knows that apart from the fake monk Hui Shuo and the irresponsible Pu Du in the Demon Realm, he has no other connection with Buddhism.
Therefore, the Buddhists viewed Wang Yao differently. Since it wasn't out of personal relationship, it must have stemmed from considerations of self-interest. But what substantial benefits could Wang Yao actually bring to the Buddhists? To the point that these monks were openly taking sides between the Six Realms and the Western Realm.
Given Wang Yao's current position, the Buddhist sect had to make this choice in order to ensure his safety. This was not the usual way of Buddhism, so Wang Yao was naturally puzzled. However, he also understood why the gods had left in a hurry and no longer paid attention to Hui Shuo.
After all, the gods had not originally planned to make Wang Yao the commander of the Three Realms' reinforcements. So when they saw that Buddhism valued Wang Yao so much, they would inevitably think about how to use Buddhism's power to fight against the demon realm. Therefore, Hui Shuo's participation in the meeting was particularly important.
Now that Wang Yao has basically secured the position of commander of the reinforcements, the Buddhists' protection of Wang Yao is tantamount to participating in the war between the divine realm and the demon realm. Since the gods have achieved their goal and the demons have launched a large-scale attack, they naturally will no longer waste words with Hui Shuo.
“My master said that foreign learning is rampant and heresies abound. People go their own way, which is why the light of Buddha is dim. Foreigners seem simple and devout, but in reality, their wisdom is withered. People are deeply trapped in the sea of suffering without knowing it and are extremely attached to it. It is more difficult to save them than to climb to heaven. All Buddhas call it a state of great suffering.”
"The Six Realms are different. Immortals, gods, demons, monsters, the underworld, and humans may have different beliefs, but in fact they are roughly the same. Although sentient beings are greedy for wealth and profit, opportunistic, and have all seven sins and eight sufferings, they are actually not bound by any rules. Their wisdom is like a wildfire, waiting only for the Buddha's light to enlighten them. All Buddhas call this a realm that can be saved."
"Now, my parents are able to overcome suffering and hardship, use their wisdom to break through the great ignorance, and unify the six realms to resolve the myriad complexities of the ocean world. Although this is not a grand Buddhist undertaking, it has great karmic connection with Buddhism. Therefore, my master asks me to ensure my parents' safety and support them in realizing their ambitions in the realm of gods and demons."
Master Huishuo must have explained this to him repeatedly, so when he heard Wang Yao ask about it, Huishuo immediately gave Wang Yao a long and detailed explanation.
Hearing this, Wang Yao felt as if he had experienced another tribulation. Many things that had happened to Hui Shuo in the past that had puzzled him suddenly became clear. He finally understood why Buddhism favored him and treated Hui Shuo well.
Although Buddhism has grand ambitions, it does not harbor any malicious intentions. Hui Shuo's visit was genuinely for the benefit of Buddhism.
To put it bluntly, it's caused by the fundamental difference in systems between the Ocean Realm and the Human Realm. The Ocean Realm merges the six realms into one, which inevitably results in a law of the jungle where the strong prey on the weak, and the weak make up the vast majority of beings in the realm.
These weaklings, seduced by the Western system, still harbor unrealistic fantasies about changing their own fate. They all want to become immortals and reach the top of the realm, so the Buddhist teachings of forbearance are of little use to them.
However, the real channels for advancement in the foreign world have long been controlled by layers of management. How could ordinary weaklings possibly have a chance to climb up? Since they couldn't find opportunities through legitimate channels, they could only look for other ways to break through the limitations of different levels. As a result, as Master Huishuo said, miscellaneous knowledge proliferated and heresies emerged one after another.
The Western world is rife with all sorts of beliefs, and the bigwigs there don't stop them, even calling it "freedom of religion." In reality, they just let the weak and vulnerable do whatever they want. If a few do stand out, they either win them over to strengthen their own power or eliminate them silently, their life and death entirely at their whim.
After all, what faith requires is the simple and devout belief. If faith is useful, the big shots will simply give that faith some status in the Western world, and the believers will often surrender and become one of them.
If a belief is useful but particularly rotten and cannot be used by the big shots, then it's best to just suppress it. After all, when faced with suppression, believers will obediently become martyrs and be wiped out one by one.
