"I am a Mahayana practitioner, and it is true that I am fearless, but I am not here to kill you. If I wanted to kill you, none of the petty scoundrels behind you could protect you, so why would I waste my breath on you?" Hu Mei said slowly.
"I just want to ask you a question, Wang Xian: Do you understand the liberal ideology I belong to? Or do you simply think it's just an illegal organization that colludes with foreign gods to create chaos in the Six Realms?"
"I had the honor of meeting Lady Zhemei in the Heavenly Prison of the Suppressing Evil. If your ideology hasn't changed, I think I know a bit about it. It is said that your goal is to unify the Six Realms into one. I wonder if you still have this idea now?"
As Wang Yao spoke, he unconsciously took two steps forward.
"That's our initial goal. What? Wang Xian seems to think very little about our goal. Could it be that Lady Zhemei has been imprisoned by the Heavenly Court for many years, and is now old, senile, and has changed her temperament drastically? Did she say something that made Wang Xian wary?" Hu Mei asked.
"Not really." Wang Yao took a slow step forward and shook his head.
"If that's the case, then why does Wang Xian harbor such deep resentment towards us liberals? Is it really as people say, that Wang Xian is only content to be a lackey of the Heavenly Court?" Hu Mei continued to ask.
“You liberals know far better than I do what you’ve done. I’m afraid even the Western Realm wouldn’t tolerate your rampages. Whether I’m a celestial lackey or not, it’s only natural for every being in the Six Realms to intervene when they see injustice,” Wang Yao said.
"You've already become a big shot in the Six Realms, yet you're still stuck on trivial matters and can't extricate yourself. Don't you understand the principle that great deeds don't concern themselves with minor details, and great etiquette doesn't require small concessions?"
"Under the heavy pressure of the Heavenly Court, it is inevitable that we liberals will do some outrageous things in order to realize our ideals. Without extremes, it is difficult to make a resounding impact. Without shouting, how can we make those who are deaf hear us?"
"As long as our ideals benefit all living beings in the six realms, and as long as our descendants can breathe the air of freedom, aren't all the sacrifices we're making now worthwhile?" Hu Mei asked righteously.
"Don't talk nonsense. I'm not some big shot. I was forced to lead you and your demon descendants. Although I'm not very powerful and don't know much about the principles, I do understand that small evils can lead to great evils, and that if you don't pay attention to small things, you will inevitably make mistakes in big things."
"Furthermore, I find it hard to agree with your goal of unifying the six realms into one. If you do this, immortals and demons will live together, and humans and monsters will be mixed together. Wouldn't that mean you're trampling the lowest level of the six realms under your feet?" Wang Yao shook his head and slowly continued walking forward.
"How could that be? I came here today because I know that Wang Xian was not born into the upper echelons of the Heavenly Court, nor is he a beneficiary of the Six Realms. Our goal can only benefit Wang Xian and will not cause him any harm. I wonder why Wang Xian would come up with such a thought?"
Hu Mei's tone sounded quite surprised.
“I am an immortal, born at the top of the pyramid of the six realms. Whether the six realms are mixed or not is not really related to me. But what about mortals? How do you expect them to survive in a world overrun by demons?” Wang Yao asked.
"So this is what you were concerned about?" Hu Mei chuckled. "Since Immortal Wang mentioned mortals, then let me ask you a few questions. First, do you think mortals have more or fewer opportunities for advancement now compared to after the unification of the Six Realms?"
"Since I don't know much about the Ocean Realm, I dare not draw a conclusion on this issue. However, I believe that after the six realms are merged, the polarization between living beings will inevitably intensify, and a few powerful individuals will control the vast majority of the wealth and power in the six realms."
“And most mortals, even those at the bottom of the Six Realms, will inevitably fall into an even more painful, impoverished, enslaved, and slaughtered fate,” Wang Yao replied with a frown.
"It's good that you have this insight, Immortal Wang. Now, I'd like to ask you a second question. Do you think that polarization or the current situation is more conducive to the improvement of mortals? I've heard the saying in the mortal world that pressure is motivation."
Upon hearing Hu Mei's words, Wang Yao stopped in his tracks. He thought for a moment before replying, "I don't think that advancement means being friendly to mortals. In fact, what mortals care about more is their three meals a day, the rewards for their hard work, and the safety of themselves and their families."
"What mortals care about is whether they can live a happy life. Becoming a god or an immortal is more like an unrealistic fantasy to them, since becoming a god or an immortal is not something that every mortal can do."
"I don't understand what you mean, Immortal Wang. When we value a being, don't we hope that they will be more capable and have greater skills? Who would want the being they value to spend their life in mediocrity?" Hu Mei asked in astonishment.
"Do you have children? I know many beings in the Six Realms who are born as parents. Their primary wish for their children is that they can live peacefully and safely. Of course, everyone wants their relatives and friends to be capable and talented, but that must be based on ensuring their safety and happiness."
“If we only value their abilities and skills while ignoring their happiness and well-being, that’s not how we treat our own family; that’s how we treat tools,” Wang Yao replied.
"Born in hardship, die in comfort, Wang Xian, don't you think your thinking is a bit too pretentious? Wanting both peace and happiness, and having ability and skill, is there such a thing as a perfect solution in this world? Which of us standing here today hasn't experienced countless life-and-death trials?"
“All hardships are tests, all difficulties are tempering. Without these, what difference is there between us and those scheming insects? Wang Xian, I find it hard to imagine that your so-called friendship is just treating the other party like an insect to be kept.” Hu Mei’s voice had become much louder without her realizing it.
