On both sides of the road were dense, seemingly endless jungles. The gods and the underworld races that had gone ahead had sent troops into the jungles to search for them and had already reported back to Wang Yao that they were safe. So Wang Yao ignored them and simply ordered the army to advance along the road toward the Decapitation Demon City.
Occasionally, scattered demon villages could be seen among the jungles on both sides of the road. The advance team reported that the demons had all fled and there was no need to explore them. However, Wang Yao knew that the demons might not have really run away. They had most likely become victims of the city sacrifice.
After walking for half a day, fallen tree stumps began to appear on both sides of the road. Judging from the fresh cuts on the stumps, they had been felled recently. The neatly arranged stumps buried in the ground on both sides of the road led Wang Yao to speculate that they were similar to streetlights in the human world.
This beheading demon lord is quite a meticulous fellow. Wang Yao didn't know what the streetlights had done to the vanguard. He just found it very strange that the Sea-Reclaiming God and the Gale Ghost King were just bored and had nothing better to do than to fight, smash, rob, and destroy the public facilities of the demon realm for fun.
He carefully examined the felled wooden stakes and noticed that the tops of the stakes were slightly pointed and the marks were mottled, indicating that something must have been hanging on them before, but now there was nothing left but bare stakes. Were the vanguard collecting streetlights? Why did they even cut down the power lines?
Wang Yao was puzzled. He walked a little further and the scouts found a cremation pile at the edge of the roadside forest. There was a sign on the side of the cremation pile facing the road. The sign had a picture of a Jingwei bird with a white beak and red claws at the top and eight scarlet characters below.
"An eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth!"
The eight characters were rough and blood-red, as if they contained a deep and irreconcilable hatred. Zhang Liang examined the cremation pile for a long time like an archaeologist, and finally determined that the cremation pile contained the bones of the gods, and most of them were the skulls of the gods' generals.
