The Heavenly Court has numerous agencies, and there are countless Mahayana masters like Director Yang. Wang Yao has no idea what taboos each Mahayana leader has. He is afraid that if he gets too involved in these interactions, he might accidentally offend a Mahayana master who is not well-known but extremely powerful. Wouldn't that be a terrible outcome?
Even leaders who haven't reached the Mahayana level shouldn't be underestimated. Otherwise, if you offend them and they hold a grudge, they might retaliate against you from behind at a crucial moment, which would be a great injustice.
Wang Yao accepted this mission because it meant fighting against the foreign powers. According to Laozi, the war of public opinion is also a war. He shouldn't start fighting among himself before even engaging in a war with the foreign powers. What hope of winning would that be?
Therefore, according to Wang Yao's inner thoughts, he should stay as far away from the various departments of the Heavenly Court as possible. The fact that the Heavenly Court arranged for the Women's Federation to be located in the relatively remote Inner Wilderness Domain was exactly what he wanted.
In order to get a general understanding of the environment between Jade Emperor Mountain and his office, so as not to panic and make mistakes if something really happened, Wang Yao gave up using all kinds of magic such as "teleportation" and "immortal travel" and leisurely walked towards the inner wilderness on foot.
To leave Taiqing Immortal City, one must first pass through several city gates. After six or seven city gates, the hustle and bustle of the immortal city gradually fades away, and the immortal plants on the ground increase. Wang Yao can see that between the two city walls, there are large areas of cultivated fields planted with various immortal crops.
He had no formal education in this area and didn't know what the plants were, but judging from their neat and healthy growth, they must have been carefully tended by an immortal over a long period of time.
Around the fairy field, rows of fairy fruit trees were densely planted. Because some of the trees had fruit hanging on their branches, Wang Yao had not yet made a mistake. However, the fruits all looked very green and unripe, as if they were still a long way from ripening.
Further on, the immortal fields begin to thin out, revealing a vast wilderness. Interspersed among these are still many immortal dwellings, some with large wooden signs in front of them that read, "Linghu Chong's Immortal Abode. Beware of the magic array. Do not disturb without permission. Anyone who approaches will be trapped and will bear all consequences."
Others are hidden among the surrounding green mountains and clear waters, where various kinds of immortal spiritual power can be vaguely seen, just like on Jade Emperor Mountain, enveloping one verdant mountain peak after another.
Wang Yao roughly counted and found that Taiqing Immortal City actually had twelve city gates, which meant that Taiqing Immortal City had undergone twelve expansions and had twelve city walls built.
It wasn't until the last few city gates that Wang Yao saw celestial soldiers stationed there. However, these soldiers seemed to be just for show; they rarely questioned the immortals coming and going. They simply stood by the city gates like statues, both majestic and lonely.
Upon exiting the last city gate, Wang Yao was astonished to find a huge market outside the city, bustling with numerous immortals, a stark contrast to the desolate appearance of the immortals between the several city gates behind him.
Moreover, this market is very different from the market in Taiqing Immortal City. Most of the immortals who do business here do not have storefronts. The most extravagant ones simply build a thatched shed in the market.
Many more immortals sat on the ground, displaying the items they wanted to trade in front of them and hawking them to passing immortals.
The goods traded were incredibly diverse, including various magical artifacts and implements commonly used by immortals, as well as those selling merits, the pelts and limbs of exotic beasts from the wild, and even special products from all six realms. Wang Yao even found a stall selling adult film DVDs from the Western world.
After walking a short distance, Wang Yao realized that the market lacked unified management. It was clearly formed naturally, with all kinds of goods mixed together without any distinction between categories, making it very difficult to trade anything.
The immortals who come here are all different kinds. Some are dressed neatly, obviously living a comfortable life, and come to shop around and kill time. Others are dressed in tattered clothes, practically wearing the name of an immortal on their heads. They all have their eyes gleaming as they anxiously search for the treasures they desperately need.
Wang Yao followed the road extending from the city gate, intending to pass through the market. However, once inside the market, the road twisted and turned, with numerous forks in the road. As he walked, Wang Yao lost his way amidst the dense array of vendors and immortals.
He had no choice but to use his senses to find the way out of the market. Not far away, he suddenly heard the sound of a child crying. It turned out that in front of a nearby stall, a little fairy was throwing a tantrum on the ground, and a fairy stood helplessly to the side watching the little fairy.
"Sir, since the young master likes it, why not buy it for him?" The stall owner, a middle-aged man who looked to be in his thirties or forties, persuaded the fairy with a half-smile.
Wang Yao saw that his stall was covered with wooden figurines, each one lifelike, fighting each other. Some of them, when hit, fell to the ground in pain, while others, after defeating their opponents, roared to the sky with fierce expressions.
Some were holding their fallen comrades, weeping and wailing, in unbearable pain. Others wore white coats but played the role of battlefield medics, and all the dead and wounded were brought back to life and fighting again in no time after passing through their hands.
These wooden figurines are vividly depicting a battle scene, and they are incredibly lifelike. Presumably, the little fairy wanted to buy them, but the fairy who brought him out refused, so the little fairy threw a tantrum.
Looking at these, Wang Yao was startled. He remembered the immortal candidates he had recommended to Director Yang earlier. He hadn't even communicated with any of them yet, and it was still unclear whether they were willing or able to come. If most of those immortal candidates couldn't come, the work in the future would be really difficult to carry out.
