Chapter Fifty-Four: Reporting for Duty

"Old Lin, why is the registration area set up in this corner?" Hua Gu clearly recognized the guy hiding behind the table and called out with a laugh from afar.

"There's nothing we can do, our meeting was scheduled for too late, and all the good spots were taken." The man surnamed Lin gave Hua Gu an awkward smile. Hua Gu walked to Old Lin's table, and seeing that Wang Yao hadn't followed, turned his head and glanced at Wang Yao.

"Hurry up and sign in! What are you doing, acting like an idiot? I need to hurry up and treat your friend's illness." Hua Gu probably didn't want people to misunderstand his purpose for going to the hotel, and besides, Wang Yao was carrying a dazed monk, which made his behavior quite suspicious, so he shouted particularly loudly.

"Uh..." Wang Yao hurriedly carried Hui Shuo to Lao Lin's table.

"You're the newly appointed matchmaker, Wang Yao? Nice to meet you. Here, fill out this form." Old Lin wasn't pretentious at all. He greeted Wang Yao with a smile and handed him a form to fill out.

"This is Section Chief Lin from our office. You can call him Lin Xian from now on," Section Chief Hua introduced Wang Yao. "Um... Xiao Wang's friend here is a little injured. Could we add another bed? He'll probably be staying at this hotel for a couple of days."

"Oh dear, the conference budget is very tight, there isn't even a spare bed..." Upon hearing Hua Gu's words, Lin Xian's thin eyebrows immediately furrowed, and she shook her head repeatedly.

"It's alright, he can sleep in mine." Wang Yao said hurriedly upon hearing this. He didn't need to sleep anyway, so having a bed there was just for decoration; it was better to let Hui Shuo sleep in it.

Seeing Wang Yao's response, Hua Gu remained silent. Wang Yao and Hua Gu each filled out the registration forms, and Lin Gu handed them two thick plastic document bags. Wang Yao saw that they contained a stack of printed documents, a pen, a name tag, and a room key.

“815, you can share a room with Hua Gu. Anyway, Hua Gu needs to pay for your friend’s medical treatment,” Lin Gu said.

Wang Yao nodded repeatedly. Although he knew Hu Fei and Luan Chu at the office, he undoubtedly had the most dealings with Hua Gu, and it was more comfortable to live with Hua Gu.

"Don't be so easy to talk to in the future," Hua Gu said to Wang Yao in a low voice as the two walked away from the registration area. "These office workers just rely on meetings to accumulate merit. They don't need to sleep, and they even have a bed, but there aren't any beds for the patients. What kind of idiots are they?"

Wang Yao, carrying Hui Shuo, didn't dare to speak. He followed Hua Gu to the hotel elevator and waited downstairs. The hotel was bustling with business, and there were many people going up and down. The floors were also high, so the two of them waited downstairs for a long time but the elevator didn't come down.

Wang Yao considered asking Hua Gu to teleport him and Hui Shuo up there, but then thought better of it and kept quiet. He had already troubled Hua Gu a lot today, and teleportation was also exhausting. Seeing Hua Gu's cynical nature, it was best to avoid provoking him.

After waiting for quite a while, an elevator finally came down. As soon as the door opened, several people came out chatting and laughing. Wang Yao took a look and saw that one of them was a big fat man, none other than Hu Fei.

"Hey! Wang Xian's here for the meeting too!" Hu Fei, with his sharp eyes, spotted Wang Yao and immediately called out loudly. The others around him also exchanged pleasantries with Wang Yao. Seeing their manner, they were quite polite to Wang Yao, but they didn't say much to Hua Gu, only nodding.

"What are you doing here...?" Wang Yao asked curiously, seeing that these immortals were in a group, as if they were going to do something important.

"It's nothing. There's a massage parlor nearby, and the young lady there is quite skilled. A few of us brothers have made plans to go and enjoy ourselves. Do you want to come?" Hu Fei asked with a smile.

“My friend is injured, and I’ll have to trouble Hua Gu to treat him.” Wang Yao hurriedly shook his head.

"Hey, how about I carry a section for you?" Seeing this, Hu Fei rolled up his sleeves and was about to step forward to help. The other immortals also expressed their willingness to help.

"No need, no need, you guys go get your massages, Hua Gu and I can handle it." Wang Yao hurriedly said politely to the group. "I'm just an ordinary person, no need for you to trouble yourselves..."

"Are you fucking leaving or not? The elevator is about to be full!" Hua Gu roared angrily, his beard bristling and eyes wide. Wang Yao hurriedly squeezed into the elevator. Hu Fei and the others saw that the elevator was indeed full and it was inconvenient to squeeze in, so they could only stand at the elevator entrance and politely greet Wang Yao again until the elevator doors closed before leaving.

"Aren't you feeling pretty proud of yourself? Everyone's fawning over you?" After entering the room, Hua Gu asked Wang Yao as he put Hui Shuo on the bed, examining Hui Shuo himself.

"How could that be? I know they're just being polite to me because of my role as matchmaker." Wang Yao quickly shook his head.

"At least you're still somewhat conscious." Hua Gu snorted, took out a few silver needles, and inserted them into Hui Shuo's body. "The injury isn't serious, so I won't use medicine. A few needles and a few days of rest should be enough. When he wakes up, I'll give him some water."

"Hua Gu, this is clearly a meeting of our office, so why is it called 'Criticizing Pseudoscience'? What's going on here?" He was a little confused when he registered, and now that he was settled in the room, he couldn't help but ask Hua Tuo.

"It's just a name, and it's been used ever since. After all, this is the human realm. Saying things like 'Heavenly Court' or 'Immortals' would be too sensational and make people think it's a bunch of swindlers holding a conference," Hua Tuo explained casually while giving Hui Shuo acupuncture.

"Pseudoscience is quite versatile; it can be used to explain anything that ordinary people can't understand."

"When a group of immortals get together, like when you're in an elevator, you might accidentally mistake one of them for an immortal or a mortal. If the hotel staff or other mortals overhear this, they can easily fool you by saying that they're just using an analogy to criticize pseudoscience."
