Chapter Forty-Eight: As Wish Fulfilled

The second floor of the teahouse was similar to the first floor, except that the tea seats were separated by partitions, which gave it a slight sense of privacy. Some couples were sitting there, secretly being affectionate, thinking that no one could see them, but in fact, they were just trying to cover it up.

Watching the nun walk past the corner of the stairs and disappear from sight, he waited a moment longer, estimating that the nun could no longer hear his conversation with the waiter, before smiling and looking at the extremely patient teahouse waiter.

"What kind of place is Liqinxuan?" Wang Yao asked.

"Uh...that's our private room." The waiter was taken aback.

"Oh, is the private room next to Liqinxuan empty?" Wang Yao nodded and then asked.

"Um... next to Liqin Pavilion is Tingchao Pavilion, which is empty, but... there's a minimum charge for the private rooms... how many people are in your party, sir?"

The waiter also sensed that this guest seemed to have some ill intentions and didn't seem to be there simply to drink tea. He gave a formulaic reply, but his facial expressions became more varied.

“Uh…” Wang Yao frowned. Minimum spending? I just wanted to eavesdrop on some gossip. Spending too much money might not be worth it, so he couldn’t help but want to back out.

"The minimum charge for Tingchao Pavilion is 128 yuan, which is the price of a pot of tea and four snacks. It's really not expensive. You would have to order this much if you were drinking tea alone. However... the soundproofing of our private rooms is very good."

Seeing that Wang Yao was about to leave, the waiter's professional instincts kicked in immediately. He took the opportunity of explaining the minimum spending requirement to subtly persuade Wang Yao to stay. However, being honest, he couldn't help but remind the waiter that his chances of getting into Tingchao Pavilion to eavesdrop were probably slim.

If he hadn't added that last sentence, the price of 128 would probably have scared Wang Yao away. He only earns 400 yuan a month, and spending almost a third of it just to listen to gossip would be out of his mind.

But the waiter's last words reminded Wang Yao of a magical technique he possessed called "Sensing." He had tried this technique before, and it seemed to be like looking at things through a magnifying glass. However, he wasn't sure if it would have any special effects on sound. He had tried it too hastily at the time.

In his opinion, the function of this "sensing" should be to improve his ability to perceive his surroundings, which should be inseparable from seeing and hearing. He usually doesn't have many opportunities to test this magic, but Master Ruyuan and this nun have provided such an opportunity, so he can give it a try.

As for the price of 128 yuan, Wang Yao didn't care if it was for testing immortal techniques. He almost got chopped up by Director Li with an axe when he tested this "sensing" in the study hall. Here, it was just a matter of spending some money, which was much cheaper than losing his life.

Fortunately, the soundproofing in this teahouse's private room is quite good, so I can test the effectiveness of the "sensor" and know how to use it properly in case of emergency.

"Let's go to Tingchao Pavilion." Once Wang Yao made up his mind, he nodded to the waiter.

"Please come this way." The waiter was puzzled when he saw that Wang Yao had actually agreed. Wasn't this guy here to eavesdrop? But if he wasn't eavesdropping, why did he deliberately choose the private room next to "Liqinxuan"?

Although puzzled, the waiter didn't ask any further questions and led Wang Yao up to the third floor.

The third floor leads to a dark corridor with private rooms on both sides. Each room has a nameplate with an elegant name like "pavilion" or "tower". The lighting was too dim, so Wang Yao didn't bother to look at it closely.

The waiter led Wang Yao to a private room and stopped there. Wang Yao saw that the nameplate on the door read "Tingchao Pavilion".

"This is the Liqin Pavilion." The waiter kindly pointed to a private room on the right side of Tingchao Pavilion, then pushed open the door of Tingchao Pavilion and led Wang Yao inside.

Once inside the private room, it was quite bright, thanks to a large window facing out. Without the outside corridor, it felt as cramped as if the power had gone out.

The private room was nicely furnished, with a large sofa that could be used as a sleeping area, a large coffee table with two brand-new decks of cards on it. In the center of the room was a mahjong table, with two dice, about the size of a finger, lying quietly in the center of the round plate.

"Here you are, this is the menu for tea and snacks." The waiter handed Wang Yao a colorful booklet from the coffee table.

"No need, just pick a few things for me, that'll be enough to make 128 yuan," Wang Yao said to the waiter, pretending to be generous as he sat down on the sofa. He pretended to close his eyes and rest, waiting for the waiter to come back in and bring tea and snacks.

After the waiter left again, Wang Yao ignored the tea and snacks and went straight to lock the door of the private room to avoid being disturbed while he was performing his magic.

Next to the private room was a small restroom, which was clean and tidy. Wang Yao went in, calmed his mind, and sensed the movement next door. He found that, just as the waiter had said, there was no sound from next door.

Even when Wang Yao pressed his ear against the bathroom wall, it was completely silent next door, as if no one was inside at all.

Wang Yao nodded, confirming that the teahouse's soundproofing was indeed excellent. He then stopped delaying and activated his magic. He felt a red light emerge from his forehead, which shone steadily on the tiled wall of the bathroom.

In an instant, Wang Yao could clearly see the tiny black spots on the tiles illuminated by the red light. He only wanted to enter the next room through the tiles, but the red light just kept shining on the tiles, as if it were studying them carefully with a magnifying glass, unable to break through the wall.
