"So I wanted to ask you to persuade him. Since you know I've followed you from Huadu to Caidu, you naturally know that I admire your ability to persuade people." Wang Yao said as he changed his shoes, took the teacup handed to him by Tang Meifeng, and sat down on the sofa.
"Leaving aside your friend's matter, why did you set your sights on me on the high-speed train?" Tang Meifeng smiled slightly and looked at Wang Yao.
“Well, I’ve been working in marriage and family law for a long time, and I’ve developed some professional insight. I noticed that you were recently widowed, but you longed for family life, so I wondered if I could introduce you to someone…” Wang Yao said, following his prepared script.
"Come on, there are plenty of people on the high-speed train. Am I the only woman who wants a man? If you don't tell me the truth, I won't help you persuade any of your friends. As for my affair with Lao Ni, I'll just consider it an accident and a coincidence. I don't owe you any favors." Tang Meifeng glanced at Wang Yao.
Wang Yao was taken aback. This woman was incredibly perceptive, and it would be difficult to fool her. So he decided to tell the truth and see if she would be frightened.
“Okay, to be honest with you, I’m an immortal. I went to Cai to solve Ni Zhenlu’s problem. He’s been having marital problems because he hasn’t found the right person. I found you to be a good match on the high-speed train, so I’ve been keeping an eye on you ever since,” Wang Yao said frankly.
"An immortal?" Tang Meifeng blinked at Wang Yao for a long time, looking slightly surprised, before finally asking, "Is this what an immortal looks like?"
"In terms of appearance, there is no difference between immortals and mortals. They come in all shapes and sizes, and there are quite a few who are lame or hunchbacked. They are not all the same." Wang Yao quickly shook his head.
"Oh, you're doing just fine as an immortal, so why are you concerned about my old Ni?" Tang Meifeng raised her eyebrows and asked again.
“A mission, a mission assigned from above.” Wang Yao scratched his head. “Being an immortal is actually quite boring. You have to do missions to earn merit. Without merit, an immortal can’t grow and won’t be much different from a mortal. There’s no future in it.”
"Oh, is that so? How did your boss notice my husband, Lao Ni?" Tang Meifeng pressed on.
“The fact that your husband’s wife has died one after another is destructive to the human realm. The immortals need to ensure the peace of the human realm, so your husband will naturally be noticed,” Wang Yao explained to her.
"Then... what exactly happened to my husband Lao Ni in the past? He kept losing his wives. If I marry him, will he die too?" Tang Meifeng suddenly lowered her voice and asked again.
“Since we immortals have taken action, you will naturally be fine. Ni Zhenlu was bewitched by the monster. I have already eliminated the monster. Do you remember when you took Ni Zhenlu to bathe in Cai Du and the bathwater turned red? That was the trace left by the monster after it died.”
Wang Yao still felt a lingering fear when he recalled how ruthless the widower was. In fact, the widower had died at the hands of Tang Meifeng. However, since he was now begging Tang Meifeng to go to Huadu, he subtly took credit for Tang Meifeng's actions, since she had no idea what he had done.
"You dead man! You even watch that kind of thing? Wouldn't that mean I...?"
Upon hearing what Wang Yao said, Tang Meifeng blushed instantly. Every time she saw Ni Zhenlu, she would do this and that with him. That night, the bathwater was covered in red blood, which became a source of anxiety for both of them. They were always worried that there might be something wrong with their health, after all, Ni Zhenlu had caused the deaths of so many wives.
She fell in love with Ni Zhenlu at first sight; seeing him made her blood boil and she was willing to do anything for him.
But when she calmed down, she often felt regretful. Although Wang Yao's words relieved a great deal of her worries, her privacy had been exposed to a young man. Although Tang Meifeng was a feisty woman, she couldn't help but feel ashamed in front of Wang Yao.
“I am an immortal, just like a male gynecologist. I see those kinds of things mainly to get rid of monsters. I can only cast spells when you and Ni Zhenlu are doing that. It’s similar to sprinkling dog blood or throwing donkey hooves, so you don’t need to be shy about it…” Wang Yao could only pretend to be serious as he advised.
Tang Meifeng pondered for a long time before the blush on her face gradually faded, and finally she nodded.
"Okay, that's the only explanation that makes sense. Lao Ni and I have been thinking that there's something fishy about this between him and me, and only supernatural explanations would make sense... So, all that stuff about your friend is just a lie, right? You're practically an immortal, what can't you solve?"
Tang Meifeng then looked at Wang Yao with a strange expression.
"The matter of my friend is not false..." Wang Yao quickly shook his head, saying that he was an immortal and it was no big deal. He said that once his words entered Tang Meifeng's ears, he would not have to take any responsibility. But the matter of the professor was different. It would be risky for Tang Meifeng to deal with him.
If Tang Meifeng had been honest with him, she might not have been willing to go to Huadu.
“Even immortals are not omnipotent. This matter involves the human heart, and even immortals cannot do anything about it. That’s why I came here to ask for your help,” Wang Yao said.
Tang Meifeng listened to what Wang Yao said without saying anything, but quietly thought about it.
"How many relationships did your friend have?" Tang Meifeng asked again.
“I know of at least 28, and I estimate there are actually many more,” Wang Yao said.
"Is your friend some kind of immortal? To be juggling so many relationships? How big must his feet be?" Tang Meifeng raised her eyebrows after hearing what Wang Yao said.
“If he were an immortal, I wouldn’t bother with this. But he’s just an ordinary professor. If something goes wrong, there’s no way to clean up the mess. If I hadn’t really run out of options, why would I have come all the way from Huadu to invite you over?” Wang Yao shook his head with a wry smile.
"What if I can't persuade him either? I'm not one to just talk back to people. I'm not sure I can convince your friend. Goodness, with dozens of boats involved, your friend's head is probably spinning. Do you think he'll listen to any advice?" Tang Meifeng laughed.
