But when Wang Yao arrived, he still saw some odd jobs standing in the square.
This is where the Huadu building materials market is clustered. As evening approaches, although most of the building materials markets have already closed, the neon lights are still very bright and lively, making the huge square seem to be surrounded by buildings decorated with neon lights.
There weren't many day laborers still looking for work. They stood sparsely among the few sculptures and flowerbeds in the square, illuminated by the surrounding neon lights, expressionless as they looked at the empty square and the sparse traffic on the surrounding roads. Some scraps of paper fluttered in the wind on the square.
As evening fell, the bustling lights and the desolate atmosphere coexisted in the square, giving Wang Yao a strange feeling of noise and loneliness intertwined.
He noticed that each of the day laborers had a white cardboard sign at their feet, with words like "laborer" or "painter" written on it, indicating their professional skills. When they saw Wang Yao approaching, a bit of life appeared on their numb faces, hoping to get some business before evening.
The sound of a car braking came from afar. Wang Yao turned his head and saw Li Zhongxiao get out of the car and skip towards him.
“It’s too late now, there aren’t many people. The weather isn’t too cold yet, and there are still some people waiting for work. Once the cold front comes, you won’t see anyone here at night. It’s much more spectacular during the day, when the whole square is packed with people,” Li Zhongxiao said to Wang Yao.
Wang Yao nodded, then looked around the square, strolling around as he silently did some mental calculations.
“We’ve set a time to argue with that troll. Listen to my call, and recruit people from here to go to Fanrong Lane,” Wang Yao said.
“To Fanrong Lane? That’s quite a distance; looks like we’ll have to arrange a car beforehand.” Li Zhongxiao followed behind Wang Yao. “This…this method will really help the landlady?”
"Yes, well done. My uncle can be rescued too." Wang Yao nodded.
"That's amazing? Who is that troll?" Li Zhongxiao asked curiously.
“It’s Professor Yang Quanxing from Changsheng University,” Wang Yao replied.
"That guy is so powerful, why would he make such a big fuss?" Li Zhongxiao was a little stunned.
"Absolutely!" Wang Yao smiled and strode towards the outside of the square. Now that he had basically finished his business, it was up to Xi Dazui and Hua Tuo to take over.
“Come on, take me back to Fanrong Lane,” Wang Yao said to Li Zhongxiao as they walked.
The car drove into Fuqiang North Road and couldn't go any further when it reached the entrance of Fanrong Lane. Wang Yao got out of the car and saw that half of the entrance to Fanrong Lane was covered by plastic boards. A person in a traffic police uniform was blowing a whistle to maintain order.
Wang Yao walked up to the traffic police officer and suddenly saw the officer wink at him and smile. He was stunned for a moment, and then he was surprised to find that the traffic police officer looked very similar to Yang, the section chief of the traffic department of the office.
"Who are you?" Wang Yao scratched his head, looking at the traffic police officer, unsure whether he was seeing things or if the man looked exactly like Yang Gu.
"Wang Xian, what's wrong? How come you can't recognize me after I changed my clothes?" the traffic police officer said to Wang Yao with a smile.
"Yang...Yang Gu? Is it really you? You...how did you get here?" Wang Yao was shocked. This traffic police officer was indeed Yang Gu.
"It's all because of you and Xi Fu. Aren't you two going to deal with the professor? I'm making preparations here. It'll be quick, it'll be done in a bit," Yang Gu said cheerfully.
“Um… in there…” Wang Yao blinked and pointed to the half of the alley entrance that was covered by plastic sheets.
"Yes, it's just a smokescreen. They're building a temporary, proactive diversion channel. When the professor and the mortals who are dealing with him arrive, they'll be automatically led to Prosperity Alley No. 2 as soon as they enter the alley. Unrelated people won't be affected by the diversion channel and will still walk through the old Prosperity Alley."
Yang Gu explained to Wang Yao with a smile.
"This...you've built a new Prosperity Lane?" Wang Yao was greatly surprised after hearing what Yang Gu said.
"It's not that a new road was built, it's just that a portion of the space was borrowed temporarily. It has to be returned after use, just like when there's traffic congestion, a temporary parking area is designated to reduce traffic flow. It's the same principle," Yang Gu said.
Wang Yao still didn't quite understand. He peered inside the plastic sheet but couldn't figure out what was going on. He just thought Yang Gu's move was brilliant. After all, he had hired quite a few people to deal with that professor, including professors and day laborers. Prosperity Lane was bound to be very crowded then.
But as long as this trick is used, the old residents of Prosperity Lane can continue to live their lives as usual, without being affected in the slightest, while I can deal with the professor with peace of mind, without delaying either side.
"Hurry up and go in. Xi Fu was just talking about you. My work here is almost finished. I still need to tidy up Prosperity Lane No. 2 and carve out a few spaces. Goodness, that professor has already reached the top level? I still need to carve out a few rest areas for mortals. There's a lot of work to do."
Yang Gu smiled and waved into the alley. Wang Yao nodded to him and walked into the alley. Not far away, a loud "howl" came from the alley, and two dogs darted out one after the other. Wang Yao looked and saw that the one in front was Huang Li, and the one behind was the foreign dog James.
"James, stop running! Why are you chasing that mongrel dog like that?!" The woman who owns James caught up from behind, panting.
"Oh ho, James still can't forget about the oriole!" Wang Yao shouted at the old lady.
"That's right, this wretched dog. The other dog ignores it, but it keeps coming up to it. What are we going to do?" The old lady said with a worried look on her face.
