"What are you saying? You're just a fake monk. If you want to eat, just say you want to eat. We're all family here, so why are you making this and that noise?" Wang Yao scolded irritably.
"Hey? You can't say that!" Hua Tuo saw that as soon as Wang Yao put on a bad face, Hui Shuo shut his mouth and looked pitiful. He quickly rolled his eyes at Wang Yao.
“I think what you said makes a lot of sense. The idea that monks don’t eat meat is outdated. We live in a new era, so we should have a new spirit. What is a new spirit? It’s breaking away from those old, outdated ideas and moving forward with a lighter load!”
As Hua Tuo spoke, he smiled and looked at Hui Shuo.
"Don't listen to your parents, he had some trouble this morning and is in a bad mood..."
"Father, Mother, who made you angry? I'll go beat him up!" Hui Shuo frowned as he looked at Wang Yao.
"Just eat your food, why do you have to meddle in other people's business!" Wang Yao rolled his eyes at him.
"What a filial and good child," Hua Tuo chuckled.
“Hua Gu, you’re making fun of me too…” Wang Yao frowned as he looked at Hua Tuo.
"How am I making fun of you? Look how filial you are. You made some money this morning and you're already rushing to treat me to lunch. If I had a child like you, I'd be laughing in my sleep." Hua Tuo's expression turned serious as he looked at Wang Yao.
"You...you really think he's my child?" Wang Yao was stunned.
"What's so strange about that? He calls you 'father' and 'mother,' but he doesn't call me 'father' and 'mother.' If he's not your child, whose is he?" Hua Tuo blinked at Wang Yao.
"Father and Mother, you must try this! This fish head stew with tofu is incredibly delicious!" Hui Shuo said, placing a large piece of fish head into Wang Yao's bowl.
"Damn it, 'Eat fish head, and someone will beg for it.' This kid is still holding back from eating me. I'll eat yours first," Wang Yao muttered to himself. He stopped pretending and started eating heartily with Hua Tuo, making Hui Shuo's heart pound with fear. He quickly added a few more dishes.
Just as the three were enjoying their meal, another person slipped into the private room, holding a glass of wine to toast the master. Wang Yao was about to expose Hui Shuo's true colors as a fake monk, but then he thought again that he was planning to quit his job and join Hui Shuo in swindling people. These were all customers, wallets! He couldn't afford to offend them easily.
Then he and Hua Tuo shut up and focused on eating and drinking. Seeing Wang Yao pretending to be deaf and dumb, Hui Shuo immediately felt much more at ease. He laughed and joked with the group of people who came to offer toasts, saying many auspicious words of Buddha's blessing and peace and prosperity. Finally, he managed to send away wave after wave of people who came in.
There was a wealthy man who really wanted to donate a large sum of money, but he had a lot of ideas. He wanted people to see his name as soon as they arrived at Lingguang Temple, and he also hoped that the monks in the temple would pray for him and ask for blessings every time they chanted sutras. He even wanted to see some immediate effects as soon as he donated money.
Wang Yao grew increasingly impatient. This wasn't a donation to build a temple; it was practically buying insurance and seeking fame! If even the Bodhisattva was so easy to talk to, what would be the point of insurance companies, reality shows, and online influencers? They could just go to the temple and burn incense, wouldn't that suffice?
Hui Shuo, however, was not in a hurry at all. He listened carefully to the tycoon's request and came up with many constructive ideas. For example, a memorial archway could be built in front of Lingguang Temple, and the tycoon's name could be engraved on the lower part of the front of the archway, like a signature.
This way, as soon as people look at the archway, they can immediately see the tycoon's name. Hui Shuo also promised to engrave the tycoon's address as well, since there are many people with the same name in the human world, so it is unlikely to be mistaken.
If it weren't for the security concerns of engraving door numbers, phone numbers, ID card numbers, etc., Hui Shuo would probably have done the same for him.
Praying for blessings is even simpler. Just put a small memorial tablet for the rich man under the Bodhisattva enshrined in the temple. That way, not only will the monks in the temple be praying for him every day, but those who come to worship the Bodhisattva will also be praying for him.
As for the last point, Hui Shuo frowned and thought for a moment, then slapped his bald head and said, "That's simple. After Lingguang Temple is built, if you ever encounter any trouble, just come and stay at the temple. Don't leave until your troubles are resolved. The temple will provide you with food and drink, and we'll make sure everything goes smoothly for you before you leave."
Ideally, the wealthy person would have two enemies or something, and the temple would guarantee to resolve that for them. If that doesn't work, they can just stay at the temple. Lingguang Temple provides food and drink, and you'll receive the Buddha's teachings every day. Even a stone would melt, let alone a human heart.
The wealthy man was stunned. He immediately asked Hui Shuo for his account number, saying that he had to transfer more than a million to Hui Shuo. He said he would be too embarrassed to see the master again if he didn't have a million.
Hui Shuo had no account number, so he left the wealthy man's contact information, saying that such a large donation should be carefully considered by the benefactor, and that he would give him the account number in three days. He added that if the benefactor was still wholeheartedly willing to donate at that time, it would be a true devotion to Buddha, and Buddha would naturally bless him without any obstacles.
The tycoon left the private room with profuse thanks, feeling that this monk was indeed a master. Other monks would have been green with envy upon hearing about the million-dollar donation, but this one told him to go back and think it over carefully, showing no urgency whatsoever. He truly had the demeanor of a high-ranking Buddhist monk.
After watching the tycoon leave, the three people in the private room couldn't sit still any longer.
"What are you still eating for? Hurry up and go open a bank account!" Hua Tuo shouted first.
"How...how do I open an account? I...I've never done this before!" Hui Shuo asked anxiously.
"You...you don't have a bank account, and all 60,000+ in cash this morning?" Wang Yao was also surprised. 60,000+ in cash, that's quite a pile. Where did Hui Shuo hide it?
“Yes…” Hui Shuo lifted his monk’s robe, revealing a bulging cloth bag tied close to his stomach. He opened the bag, revealing a stack of banknotes inside. “This is something you taught me, Father and Mother,” Hui Shuo said to Wang Yao.
