Chapter Sixty-Eight Critique

"Dude, no chance! I haven't heard this song before, but this poem is probably just lyrics. Your son has only just been weaned, why are you in such a hurry to become famous? Wouldn't it be better to learn to write properly first?" Zhu Gu rolled his eyes at Cui Gu.

"Oh dear, that's too late! These days, everyone in the human world wants to win at the starting line. By the time my son learns to write, he'll be left far behind!" Cui Gu stomped his feet anxiously.

"Why the hell are you comparing yourself to those mortals? Mortals have short lifespans and are always in a hurry. You're still a long way from death, so why are you in such a rush?" Zhu Gu raised his eyebrows, genuinely getting impatient with Cui Gu.

"Excuse me, is this the venue for criticizing pseudoscience?" Cui Gu was about to speak again when a man in a suit next to him suddenly asked timidly.

"Uh...right! Yes, we're criticizing pseudoscience right now. A child who's just been weaned is writing thousands of poems a day—absolutely pseudoscience!" Cui Gu's expression turned serious. He hadn't expected a mortal to infiltrate the group of immortals at some point, so he quickly tried to cover it up.

"Ah, is that so? May I ask your surname?" The man in the suit, seeing that only Cui Gu had answered him, hurriedly smiled and asked Cui Gu.

"My surname is Cui. And who are you?" Cui frowned, and all the immortals in the conference room looked over.

"I'm the executive manager of this mountain hotel. I'm here because... something pseudoscientific has happened at our hotel, and we hope you can help us resolve it," the man in the suit explained to Cui.

"What is it?" Cui looked around and, seeing that no one responded, had no choice but to bite the bullet and continue asking.

"Here's the thing, something happened at our hotel last night. One of our security guards insists he was slapped by a ghost and wants to take the day off. But that's not the most important thing. The most important thing is that one of our hotel's important clients..."

"He booked nine banquets here yesterday, but insisted on canceling them today. The key is that his reason for canceling is very strange. He said he hasn't lived enough, hasn't tasted all the bitterness of life, and doesn't want to be invited to the Western Paradise by the Bodhisattva so early. This... I really don't understand..."

"How does booking a banquet relate to going to the Western Paradise? I'm not afraid to tell you all, one of our guests did have an accident last night. The hospital examination showed that he choked to death because a chicken foot got stuck in his throat. You are all people who criticize pseudoscience, you should know that..."

"This is a perfectly natural phenomenon, but the client insists that it's because the deceased held a prayer ceremony that moved the Bodhisattva, and was invited to the Western Paradise by the Buddha. I don't know what's going on, so I wanted to ask you all, is this... pseudoscience?"

"If this is pseudoscience, could you all do us a favor and criticize it to wake up our client? Honestly, running a hotel is really difficult these days. Last night, we had a full thirty tables full, and because that client died, no one is taking responsibility..."

After hearing what the man in the suit said, Wang Yao and Hua Tuo exchanged a glance, but neither of them spoke.

"Um... this kind of thing... I... I'm not a leader, you'd better come to us..." Cui Gu listened to the man in the suit rambling on and on, talking about ghosts, the Western Paradise, Buddha, and even chicken feet and necks, and felt that this matter was quite complicated, so he wanted to push it away.

"Hello, are you the manager?" Koko squeezed up from behind.

"Yes, Executive Manager." The man in the suit nodded and smiled at Ke Ke.

"Let me put it this way, when we criticize pseudoscience, we mainly focus on feudal superstition, not religious beliefs. The Western Paradise and Buddha you mentioned involve religious beliefs, so it's not appropriate for us to get involved. We have a meeting soon, so you should think of another way."

Koko is indeed skilled; he managed to extricate everyone from the situation with just a few simple words.

"So... the security guard slapped the ghost, that... isn't that considered feudal superstition?" The man in the suit was still reluctant to leave and asked again.

"This..." Ke Ke hesitated for a moment, then turned to look at Zhang Ke from the security department. "You have experience handling this kind of thing, why don't you go take a look?"

"What business is it of mine in this kind of thing?" Zhang Ke chuckled. "Ma Gu, you go... By the way, Xiao Wang, is this related to that hotel waiter calling you over yesterday?"

As expected, none of the immortals are easy to deal with. Zhang Ke probably already knows about my use of magic in the hotel security office. Wang Yao smiled and nodded at Zhang Ke without showing any emotion.

"You were there? That makes things easier. Did someone slap the security guard?" Zhang asked with a smile. He didn't really want to point out Wang Yao, but since Ke Ke had singled him out, even though the security department was only good at cleaning up messes, what did Wang Yao amount to?

This immortal had 500 merits deducted from him by Lü Xian, and had no hope or future. Although he was the matchmaker, he was like a tiger with its teeth pulled out, struggling blindly. He was so ignorant of his own mortality that he arranged another marriage for Lü Xian. He was just waiting to die. What did he have to be afraid of?

Zhang was not the kind of person who would blindly do good deeds. He originally wanted to have his subordinate Ma Gu cover things up, but then he thought about it and decided to drag Wang Yao out instead. He should figure out how to solve his own problems. His security department couldn't just rush to clean up everyone's messes.

“Oh…” When Wang Yao stood up, he already understood Zhang Ke’s sinister intentions. Their meeting was supposed to be a meeting to criticize pseudoscience. If he had seen the pseudoscience last night but pretended to be deaf and dumb, then he would not be qualified to attend the meeting.

Therefore, he could not admit that it was a ghost who slapped the security guard in the conference room last night, nor could he admit that he had used magic. One reason was that the Heavenly Court had strict regulations on immortals using magic in the mortal world, and it was taboo to use it casually.
