Sigh! My thinking skills still need improvement. I start overthinking things at the slightest unexpected event. The most important thing right now is to stabilize the team and keep the meeting going!
Ke Ke was lost in thought, while Hu Fei hesitated and continued reading. A few slaps rang out outside, then silence fell. The meeting continued awkwardly. Only Wang Yao had a rough idea of the reason, but he dared not say it.
He didn't even dare to release his "sensation," as Lü Xian's realm was far superior to his, and even the immortals in the conference room had higher levels of earth spiritual power than him.
At this moment, his use of immortal techniques was tantamount to courting death. It was as if he was clearly telling all the immortals that Lü Xian's abnormality was due to his tampering with things.
So Wang Yao could only keep it to himself, but as he kept it to himself, he was dumbfounded. Lü Xian never returned until the meeting ended at six o'clock in the afternoon, and Wei Cai never appeared again.
The guys present were all geniuses; not one of them was dim-witted. They looked at each other and exchanged knowing smiles.
As soon as the meeting ended, Ke Ke left the conference room in a hurry with a cold face. Wang Yao and Hua Tuo returned to room 815. When they entered the room, Wang Yao was surprised to find that Hui Shuo was not there. Just as he was wondering about it, Hua Tuo gently nudged Wang Yao with his elbow, the sound as soft as a mosquito's hum.
"Did you do it?"
"What did you say?" Wang Yao asked loudly, feigning ignorance.
"Keep your voice down, keep your voice down, it's not true, it's not true..." Hua Tuo's expression changed.
"I want to resign. I was planning to hand my resignation letter to Lü Xian when the meeting ended, but I didn't expect him not to come back." Wang Yao pretended not to understand Hua Tuo's question and changed the subject.
"Resign?" Hua Tuo frowned.
"Yeah, they deducted 500 merit points, what's the point of doing anything now!" Wang Yao said deliberately indignantly.
“That’s true. Resigning to become a wandering immortal makes it much harder to earn merit, but people have so much more freedom. It’s just that your cultivation level is too low. If you had the cultivation level of Xi Fu, resigning wouldn’t be such a bad thing.” Hua Tuo listened and agreed wholeheartedly.
"Can one earn merit by becoming a wandering immortal?" Wang Yao was taken aback.
"Of course, as long as you do good deeds wholeheartedly, you will always be rewarded. However, that depends on the Heavenly Generals who patrol and report to you. They rarely descend to the mortal realm. You will only get their attention if you become famous. It is too difficult to earn merit from them." Hua Tuo shook his head.
"Moreover, your cultivation level is too low, and you lack the ability to protect yourself. Don't be fooled by the nice-sounding term 'loose immortal.' In reality, we immortals in the Six Realms are surrounded by demons and monsters, and we have quite a few enemies. If you're not careful, you might get into trouble and be unable to resolve it on your own, and without any organization to help you, it's very dangerous."
Hua Tuo then reminded Wang Yao, who felt a slight chill and couldn't help but recall the incident in Xiangyun City not long ago when dealing with the widower. It was clearly Hui Shuo who was beating up the widower, but as soon as the monster woke up, it targeted him first.
While the red thread played a part in this, it must be said that his status as an immortal made him more likely to attract the attention of monsters than that of a mortal.
So, becoming a "celestial being" within the system seems like finding a powerful backer. If something happens, the organization can step in and help, otherwise you're all alone... Does that mean I should just stay in this system? This... this is absolutely not my ideal!
Wang Yao felt extremely frustrated. He had originally planned to escape his role as the matchmaker and realize his dream of becoming a top-tier powerhouse through a normal promotion within the system.
However, it seems that although there is still a possibility of promotion within the system, he has already lost 500 merits and is firmly suppressed at the system level 3, making it impossible for him to turn things around.
Even if I work hard to earn those 500 merit points, who knows if Lu Xian will continue to cause me trouble?
It's pointless to pin your future on someone else's mercy, not to mention that you've completely offended Lu Xian by helping him lead the Lion Roar Beast today. If he realizes this, he might actually kill you if his temper gets the better of him.
With this in mind, Wang Yao made up his mind to resign! Even if he had to live a life of wandering in the mountains, it would be much better than struggling to survive under Lü Xian's rule.
As the two were talking, there was a knock on the door. Wang Yao went to open the door and saw a strange mortal standing by the door.
"Excuse me, are you Mr. Wang?" the man asked with a smile.
"Really?" Wang Yao replied, puzzled.
"Um... it's like this, the groups holding a meeting at this hotel have agreed that Mr. Yu from Beierxiang Seed Industry will treat Master Huishuo to dinner tonight, and at the same time, the Master will bestow blessings and transmit the Dharma to everyone..."
"Although the master agreed, he insisted that Mr. Wang and Dr. Hua be present, so I specially invited the two of you to come," the man explained to Wang Yao with a smile.
Upon hearing this, Wang Yao thought, "Damn, Hui Shuo has really gone too far this time. He's planning to build a temple in the hotel. The conference I'm attending is supposedly to criticize pseudoscience, and we're not on the same page with these people. It doesn't seem appropriate for me to go there rashly."
Unexpectedly, Hua Tuo laughed upon hearing this, walked over, patted Wang Yao on the shoulder, and said to the person who had invited him, "Thank you, you go back first, we'll be there in a bit!"
The person who had invited him received a reply and happily turned and left. Hua Tuo turned to look at Wang Yao and said, "You're a really good kid. You're so incredibly filial. You never forget your parents when there's something good to be had."
“But… I still feel like something’s not right about this. We’re here to criticize pseudoscience…” Wang Yao scratched his head, still feeling there was something wrong.
