Chapter Thirty-Three: Battle Qi

"You should go get a rabies shot right away. I'll watch over things here for you; they won't run away," Wang Yao hurriedly reminded the woman when he saw that James had bitten her wrist and caused it to bleed.

"No...no need, James is from overseas, he won't have rabies." The old woman shook her head, looking dejectedly at James, who was cuddling with the oriole. "Tell me, how could James have taken a liking to a mongrel dog that has given birth to a litter of puppies? It's from overseas!"

Wang Yao scratched his head. "Is this my fault? Your daughter married a foreigner too, right? Humans can marry foreigners, but dogs can't? That doesn't make sense."

He wanted to continue persuading the old lady to get vaccinated, since rabies doesn't discriminate; even a saint bitten by a dog would need to be careful. Just as he was about to speak, he saw Zhen Huai sitting behind the stall in the distance, staring coldly at him, his eyes practically spitting fire.

Seeing Zhen Huai's expression, Wang Yao knew he was annoyed that he had arrived at his doorstep but hadn't gone back in, and must think Wang Yao was trying to avoid him. Sighing, Wang Yao turned to look at the older woman.

"You should go get vaccinated as soon as possible, just in case. James has been in our human world for several days now, and it's possible he caught rabies as soon as he arrived. Don't worry, as long as he's with the oriole, he won't be able to escape. I'll keep an eye on him for you."

As he spoke, Wang Yao walked toward Zhen Huai. He had no intention of hiding from Zhen Huai at all; he couldn't hide from him even if he wanted to, since he lived downstairs. Unless he didn't plan to go home in the future, that would be a different story.

The older woman's expression changed and she hesitated after hearing what Wang Yao said made sense. When Zhen Huai saw Wang Yao approaching, he began to collect the eggs from the stall one by one into the basket he was carrying.

"Wait for me a moment, I'll pack up the stall and we'll go upstairs to talk," Zhen Huai said.

Wang Yao nodded, squatted down to help Zhen Huai collect the eggs, and after a quick tidying up, Zhen Huai, carrying a plastic sheet on the ground, a small stool, and a basket of eggs, walked with Wang Yao to his door. Zhen Huai handed the stool and basket to Wang Yao and took out his key to open the door.

After entering Zhen Huai's house and tidying up the stools and plastic sheet, Zhen Huai carried the egg basket into the kitchen.

"Have you eaten?" Zhen Huai asked as he put the eggs into the refrigerator.

"I've already eaten," Wang Yao replied. Zhen Huai made a living by selling a few eggs. He wasn't like Huang Li, who only cared about enjoying his own food and didn't consider Zhen Huai at all.

"Hmm." Zhen Huai responded, put away the eggs, poured a glass of water, and handed it to Wang Yao. "You must be exhausted after wandering around for a few days?"

Wang Yao took the teacup, placed it on the table, shook his head, and thought to himself, "I didn't do anything wrong. You and Xiao Ying are busy running around, you're probably exhausted. I'm not."

“Here’s what I’m thinking: it’s really not a good way for you to be idle all day. I’ve already talked to Wei Dafa, and he’s agreed to let you work as a security guard at his Dafa Real Estate Company…” Zhen Huai didn’t sit down; he stood in front of Wang Yao and began to speak.

Wang Yao was stunned. He was going to work for Wei Dafa? Even if he wanted to, would Wei Dafa dare to hire him? He was a celestial being, how much would Wei Dafa have to pay him to afford him?

Seeing the strange expression on Wang Yao's face, Zhen Huai immediately frowned, realizing that Wang Yao was unwilling.

“It’s not the kind of security guard who stands guard at the gate. I specifically told Wei Dafa that you’re used to being idle at home and can’t stand strict rules. Wei Dafa said that you can usually maintain order in the sales office, take a walk around the sales office when you have time, and find a stool to sit on when you’re tired.”

"If Wei Dafa needs you, you can go with him and be his bodyguard or something..."

Hearing Zhen Huai's words, Wang Yao blinked. So Wei Dafa wanted him to be his bodyguard! Wow! This guy has a good plan. Hiring a celestial being as a bodyguard, his future affairs will be smooth sailing and unstoppable.

"I've been taking some time lately to teach you some martial arts. At the very least, it'll keep three to five people at bay. That way, if Wei Dafa gets into trouble, you can be of some use. But your own safety is still the most important thing. These days, gangsters all use guns..."

"If you see that thing, you should run as far away as possible. You're just a bodyguard, not someone who's selling their life to Wei Dafu..."

Wang Yao chuckled as he listened to Zhen Huai's rambling instructions. Just as he was about to speak, Zhen Huai glared at him.

"Don't talk! Listen to me honestly, I haven't finished speaking yet! The salary isn't high. Wei Dafa said that there's a six-month probation period with 3,000 yuan per month. After the probation period, the minimum is 4,000 yuan per month. If you can really keep him safe, I wouldn't mind giving you 10,000 or 20,000 yuan a month."

“Here’s what I think: let’s be honest and upright people, and not think about those unrealistic goals. Earning ten or eight thousand a month requires you to work your life away to earn it. We’re not after that. If you work hard with me for the next six months, you should be able to earn five or six thousand a month.”

“In Huadu, if you’re on a tight budget, two thousand yuan a month is enough to get by. If you want to eat better, as long as it’s not too extravagant, three or four thousand yuan is the maximum. That way, you can save at least one or two thousand yuan a month. Don’t underestimate one or two thousand yuan, as the saying goes…”

"Are you even listening?" Zhen Huai was speaking enthusiastically when he suddenly noticed Wang Yao looking towards the door. He immediately became furious and shouted at him sternly.

“No…it seems like the orioles have come up…” Wang Yao explained.

“It’s just a dog, why are you staring at it?” Zhen Huai said angrily.

"No, the old lady probably went to get vaccinated. I promised to look after her bulldog," Wang Yao said.

"What are you looking at? It's a vicious dog that bit people. It's better that it ran away. Someone will kill it and make hot pot. You should take care of your own business first, okay?" Zhen Huai said impatiently.
