Chapter Twenty-Four: Crossing Boundaries

In the lobby of the building, many people were wearing sun hats of the same style and color, and several guys holding small flags were shouting at the top of their lungs.

"85th Regiment, hurry up and finish taking your photos, then assemble at the back door!"

"Independent Regiment, hurry up and take pictures, you only have 10 minutes left..."

"Listen up, members of the Civilization Group! This is the infamous Civilization Road, the most famous road in the entire human realm. See it? Be careful not to step out the gate. Once you do, you'll automatically enter the Civilization Monitoring Zone. Don't blame the tour guide for not warning you when you get home and have to pay the 'Civilization Tax'..."

"...Across the street from us lies what was once the most prosperous market in the human world, a market that said, 'Don't seek millions in profit, just take a penny.' That's what we're talking about. You can see that stall covered in plastic sheeting right across from us; that's the one where the guy lost 154 points for farting..."

"...See that building diagonally across the street? That's the infamous 'rainy building.' Since the implementation of the civilized surveillance system on Wenming Road, many criminals who harbored strong malice towards the system because they couldn't recoup their investments on this road have jumped from that building..."

"...Because so many people jumped, it was like rain, so that building got a famous name, what was it?...Yes, it's the Rain Building...!"

"...Ge Laosan, who was once ranked 892nd on the Huadu Rich List, jumped off that building. Do you see that particularly square stone down there? The one with what looks like a black stain on it, that's called Laosan Stone. Legend has it that Ge Laosan's head hit that stone..."

"Ugh, it's so crowded, I can't take any pictures at all..." A woman held up her camera and complained to a man standing next to her who looked like her husband, looking rather silly.

"Um... how about... I... lift you up?" The man blinked.

"No more filming, no more filming, forget it, let's go back to the car..." The woman, losing interest, dragged the man towards the back of the hall.

Looking at this incredibly lively scene, Wang Yao finally gradually understood. So the Civilization Building had become a tourist attraction? No, it should be that Civilization Road had become a tourist attraction. Although everyone was afraid to go into Civilization Road, they were still very curious about Civilization Road itself.

This Civilization Building not only has a back entrance, but its front entrance is also a large glass curtain wall, which allows tourists to enjoy the view from here. They can gaze into the distance through the curtain wall and take in the rich cultural and natural landscape of Civilization Road. The Civilization Building makes money, and tourists satisfy their curiosity, making it a win-win business.

As Wang Yao walked in from Wenming Road, he naturally attracted the attention of many tourists. While he was walking outside, many tourists took photos with him in the background. After he entered the building, some of those who hadn't been photographed felt they had been cheated and went to take more photos of him.

This behavior of using Wang Yao as a background without his consent is extremely uncivilized. Wang Yao couldn't help but feel extremely indignant. However, he had walked the path of civilization after all, and the seeds of civilization had already taken root in his heart. Therefore, even though the tourists were very uncivilized, Wang Yao could not be uncivilized.

"Get lost, get lost! If anyone blocks my way again, I'll beat them up!" Wang Yao patiently worked with the tourists while squeezing through the crowd, looking for the VIP passage that Hua Gu had mentioned.

This Civilization Building seems to be a hotel. Wang Yao saw that to the right of the hotel reception desk, there was a row of five elevators. Sure enough, there was a small railing in front of the innermost elevator, and a small sign next to the railing that read "VIP passage, please do not enter without permission".

Wang Yao walked forward, and sure enough, the railing seemed to be able to sense it and stood up on its own without anyone operating it. As soon as Wang Yao walked in, the railing immediately fell down again.

He couldn't help but feel a little strange. These three bare wooden railings were just for show. If someone really wanted to get into the elevator, why couldn't they just go around the railings? Thinking this, he decided to go around the elevator door again to see what kind of trick the Heavenly Court was playing.

But just as he peeked one leg over the edge of the railing, a voice suddenly rang in his ear.

"Where did this bored immortal come from? Go home and have fun, don't fucking fool around here!"

Wang Yao was startled and quickly looked around, but he didn't see anyone who seemed to be talking to him. Oh my god! Could it be one of those surveillance cameras on Wenming Road outside? Wang Yao looked up and found that there were surveillance cameras in every corner of the building's roof.

But Wang Yao couldn't figure out who was monitoring him. Thinking about it, the voice was right. He was just bored. He could just go to the Immortal Realm to absorb spiritual energy. Why bother studying this broken fence? Did it expect him to stop being the matchmaker? No way!

Shaking his head to clear his mind of those random thoughts, Wang Yao pressed the elevator button. The elevator doors, as if they had been waiting there, opened silently as soon as Wang Yao pressed the button, and he stepped inside.

The elevator inside was no different from the elevators Wang Yao had seen before and after his time travel. Advertisements were plastered on the front and both walls. The one facing him was the foot massage parlor in the Civilization Building, where a woman with her back exposed was making a very comfortable gesture and striking a seductive pose.

The walls on both sides displayed advertisements for the fancy restaurants and Western restaurants in the Civilization Building. The fancy restaurants featured large round tables with photos of various dishes underneath. The Western restaurants had a picture of a Western chef in a uniform on the table, with an advertisement below it.

"All the romance you can imagine can be found at Wenming Western Restaurant."

Holy crap! Is this some kind of pimping or food business? It's making people wonder all sorts of things.

Wang Yao mentally scoffed and looked at the densely packed floor buttons next to the elevator door. The ones on the ground floor were black with white lettering, while those on the ground floor were yellow with black lettering. Only the 18th and 6th floors underground, and the 6th, 12th, and 18th floors above ground, were in red lettering.
